News::Best Fatalities in Mortal Kombat X

Bryan Dawson (Prima Games): While the gameplay is there, it's the raw violence that put Mortal Kombat on the map. The fatalities in the first game made the news in many areas and resulted in the infamous Blood Code for the Sega Genesis version of the game, and the sweat-fill censorship of the Super Nintendo port. With the new generation of console hardware comes more detailed games. Character models are far more elaborate than they've ever been and environments are detailed and expansive. When it comes to the new Mortal Kombat, that also means the fatalities get an all-new level of violence and realism. The game doesn't hit store shelves until April, but we've already seen a good number of the new finishing moves. Join us as we take a look at some of the best.

Unlike some Twine tales, this one also includes color imagery alongside text. If you're at all interested in what this game has to offer then you can check it out right now because Beneath Floes is free! With that in mind you might now be wondering why a Kickstarter campaign exists for this game."

News::Build castles and blow them up with a trebuchet in Medieval Engineers

Keen Software has built a million-person-strong audience for Space Engineers , but I've stayed away from the work-in-progress construction sandbox game so far. Steam Early Access often has that effect on me. The studio's next project, Medieval Engineers , will tap into the same desire to build and break cool stuff, but in a setting that seems quaint by comparison. Quaint can be good.

Inspired by real-world medieval technology, the game "strives to follow the laws of physics and history and doesn't use any technologies that were not available in the 5th to 15th centuries."

Players can build cities, castles, and mechanical devices -- and, what's this? -- "perform landscaping and underground mining," too. Don't underestimate the importance of curb appeal.

"We didn't want to only keep creating space games," says founder and CEO Marek Rosa. "Instead we wanted to have a game where players can interact with life and nature. By creating a second engineering game, we are also leveraging our existing technology and experience."

When Medieval Engineers arrives on Steam Early Access, it'll launch with Creative Mode and an early prototype of Survival Mode. Like Space Engineers, I think I'll wait until this is fully cooked.

News::Xbox gets Call of Duty's star-studded Exo Zombies DLC first on January 27

Zombies again. It's what people know, I guess. Comforting, familiar zombies.

With Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare 's first DLC pack, Havoc ($15 standalone, or included in the $50 season pass), the undead will don exoskeletons to stand out from past games and yeah, they know how to boost-jump. That's something. Also something is the celebrity cast, which consists of John Malkovich, Rose McGowan, Jon Bernthal, and "the incredible Bill Paxton."

Besides Exo Zombies, Havoc includes four multiplayer maps -- "Core," "Urban," "Sideshow," and "Drift" -- as well as the AE4 directed energy assault rifle and the AE4 Widowmaker custom variant.

It's coming to Xbox One and Xbox 360 on January 27, "with other platforms to follow."
