News::Bad Boss Battles in Gaming History - Part One

SuperPhillip Central writes, "It's Thanksgiving Day here at SuperPhillip Central. We've eaten our dinner, watched some football, and now it's time for a new segment here on the site. We're all about turkeys today, but not of the avian variety. No, we're talking turkeys in the form of boss battles. In the past we've taken a look at some of our favorite fights in gaming history. Now, we do the opposite and tackle those boss fights that are awful, boring, forgettable, annoying, shoe-horned in, and/or just downright nasty. After you've seen the selections for part one of our new segment, please comment with some of your own!"

News::Adventure Time: Explore the Dungeon Because I DON'T KNOW! Review | AusGamers

AusGamers has reviewed Adventure Time: Explore the Dungeon Because I DON'T KNOW! and writes: Its a shame that Explore the Dungeon, despite its adherence to maintaining the characters personalities and its clear admiration of the source material, misses the point of what makes Adventure Time work. Its a lazy piece of design, one that has no business carrying a $60 price tag when it feels like it could have been ripped straight from a browser.

News::The Girl and the Robot hits Wii U stretch goal

Despite the fact that it wasn't on my radar until this week, I'm intrigued by the Kickstarter project The Girl and The Robot , which just hit its Wii U stretch goal today. Billed as "Ghibli meets Ico," the game features a story involving a girl who's trapped in a castle, on a quest to escape with the help of a noble robot knight.

You'll be able to switch between the girl and the robot at will, and both characters have unique abilities to help solve puzzle and battle situations. The art is breathtaking to say the least, and although nothing is guaranteed with a Kickstarter campaign, I'm stoked to try out the eventual Wii U version.

News::The Gaming Heretic: Space Engineers Preview

TGH writes: An impressive addition to Steams Early Access department is Space Engineers. It is impressive in its potential, but, like all game alphas, dont expect anything near a completed project yet. A look at the core of the game will show us what we can expect from the finished product, and the size and frequency of updates can give us a glimpse of the final products quality. In my time exploring the void that occupies Space Engineers, I was alternatively impressed and disappointed, but read on to see just how promising or how disappointing this game is really expected to be.

News::Impressions: Kinect Sports Rivals Preseason

It's a crying shame to see Rare reduced to producing Kinect games. With so much talent and so many IPs ripe for the taking, Microsoft has reduced one of the best retro studios of all time to a motion control factory.

But every now and then the "new Rare" will have flashes of greatness, as evident in Viva Piñata. Although Kinect Sports Rivals is far from what I'd call "great," it's a huge step up from the original Kinect Sports, and a vast improvement upon prior motion control technology.

News::Battlefield 4: A Few Weeks In

IM PLAYIN's H0NEYL00PS looks at Battlefield 4 now that he's had a few weeks to get to grips with the new game: "It was a brisk spring evening. I turned on my laptop only to stumble onto a tweet from an old Battlefield 2 clan-mate could this be??? #pleasegod #bf4 Curiosity sinks in. A quick Google and seconds later Im staring in awe at a black YouTube video embed, eagerly awaiting it to start playing The darkness fades. Big metal tracks. An engine starts with an almighty roar. The tank begins to move. (Could this be? Only 2 years after Battlefield 3? It cant be) It picks up speed. The camera pans to the right. A black & white, dirt-stricken landscape is in shot. White and orange lights in the distance. (I know what this is. Anyone who calls them self a fan would recognise that colour palette anywhere.) The teaser closes with the 6 iconic beats that will make the spine of any veteran shiver."

News::Does Anybody Really Like Microtransactions?

"Microtransactions, subscriptions and other biz models will be the next generation of games," tweeted Avalanche Studios' creative director Christofer Sundberg last week. "It is that simple." Is it, though? That's somewhat debatable. While it's been abundantly clear for a while now that developers and publishers (emphasis on the latter) are more than delighted to start continually charging players for additional game content -- even when the game costs $60 in the first place -- it's also been abundantly clear for a while that a lot of people don't like this way of doing business.

TGH Writes: Start your engines and feel the adrenaline, cause Need For Speed: Rivals is here to give you a run for your money, even if that means going toe-to-toe with cops. Of course, Need For Speed has always had a rather strong run on the 7th generation of consoles especially with Burnout-famous Criteron coming aboard to command the series innovations. News::XCOM: Enemy Within | CheatMasters

By avoiderdragon:When XCOM: Enemy Unknown first came out, it became a big hit from out of the blue as no one expected it to play so well and be so affective to the players emotions. It wasnt just a good turn-based tactics game that did everything just right, but it also made you feel for the soldiers, especially if you decided to customize them then leveled them up from mission to mission. If you lose one, you can feel it in your soul since that soldier is gone forever, which is similar to other games like the Fire Emblem series.
