News::Wolfenstein: The New Order Reviewed | AusGamers

AusGamers has reviewed Wolfenstein: The New Order and writes: While part of me is disappointed at the lack of multiplayer (more Enemy Territory anyone?), the lengthy (by shooter standards) and cinematic campaign was an absolute riot from start to finish, tainted only by the strange inclusion of back-at-base missions that included jarring fetch quests. Wolfenstein: The New Order is a fantastic blend of old-school tropes and contemporary improvements that warrants a second play-through.

News::Wolfenstein: The New Order review - MMGN

MMGN writes: Shooters often struggle to validate their senseless killing gameplay. They just aren't compelling enough. Wolfenstein: The New Order is an exception, weaving through a fascinating alternate reality in which the Nazis won and now essentially control the world. The foundations are set early with a spectacular opening stanza, leading into an alluring tale of war, retribution and resistance. It has the story, characters and pacing to compliment its most engaging gameplay mechanics, including a great RPG-lite perk system, fuelling what is most certainly an exciting reinvigoration of the old-school shooter.

In the incredulously long list of adjectives atrocious is in the lead for Bound by Flame. The Action-RPG genre, as a whole, is a difficult one when a game looks to be emergent from the rest of the mundane pack.

News::Mod of the Week: Defenders of Ardania

VRFocus - There has been a lot of talk about bringing strategy videogames to virtual reality (VR) lately, and whether the genre could really work with head-mounted displays (HMDs) like the Oculus Rift or Project Morpheus. Of course, building an empire through in-direct commands and menu systems is not the first thing that springs to mind with thinking about VR, but as videogame enthusiasts theres always room to experiment. Which is exactly what VRFocus did for this weeks edition of Mod of the Week.

News::Perseus 230, Inspired by Star Fox, Currently on Kickstarter

Carl Williams writes, "Star Fox is an iconic game that many from that day and age will probably always hold high and proud as an amazing achievement of the time. In the last couple of decades there have been more than a couple of pretenders to the throne, across many platforms. This style of game is not new, it is just that Star Fox was the first to do new things in the genre that caught the attention of gamers. Perseus 230 by Gabriel Santos looks to pay homage in a big, anime, way to the king of rail shooters."

News::Check out the inner workings of a Game Boy and learn something while you're at it

Vsauce3 is back at it again, with another stop-motion video like the previous Oculus Rift Fact Surgery we featured not long ago. This time, it's delving into the inner workings of the Game Boy while delivering some facts about the popular handheld.

I feel like they missed a big opportunity here to post this video on the Game Boy's 25th anniversary, but such is life. It's a neat little video with some tidbits you may not have known, so it's worth watching, even if for the stop-motion work, which is always cool.

Additionally, you can check out the accompanying episode of Did You Know Gaming? featuring Jake of Vsauce3, for some more tasty morsels of Game Boy trivia goodness. I love these kinds of things. If only I felt this way about learning useful things.

Sean Halliday if Pixel Gate writes: ''Titanfall came with a lot of hype, especially from Microsoft given the games importance to its Xbox One system. The next big thing in multiplayer shooters, the new breed, the evolution of competitive multiplayer all terms coin to describe Titanfall. With the dust well and truly settled from the games initial Xbox One release, did it truly have the impact we were led to believe?''

News::Namco 'seeking avenues' to continue supporting Dark Souls on PC

Bandai Namco has provided an update on the future of Dark Souls PC, which uses Games for Windows Live -- a service that's believed to be shutting down in July -- for its online play.

First, the game "will remain fully functional on GFWL for the foreseeable future." Second, Namco "is currently seeking avenues to continue support and ensure the functionality of Dark Souls on other services. We will have more news and updates to share on this in the coming months."

Presumably and hopefully, that continued support will come to fruition through Steamworks. I'm now starting to wonder if GFWL's end isn't being pushed back beyond July. Either way, Ace Combat: Assault Horizon ditched the service -- Dark Souls can and should too.
