News:: Doom on Switch won't have SnapMap, physical requires MP download

After the surprise reveal of Doom during Nintendo's direct tonight, questions about how the game would actually fit on the Switch started to come up for me. We've already heard a lot about how titles like Resident Evil: Revelations will require a download for the sequel and how install sizes for some indie games are out of control; obviously Doom was going to necessitate an SD Card due to the other ports clocking in well over 32 GB.

Speaking with Engadget, Bethesda has confirmed a few things about Doom on Switch. For starters, SnapMap (the sort of level editor) is completely gone from this version. On the flip side, all of the DLC for multiplayer will be included, so there should be more than enough maps to go around. If you're looking to jump into multiplayer and opt for the physical version, that is where you'll need to start worrying about space constraints. The physical version will only include the campaign on the cartridge, with the multiplayer being a separate download.

I suppose that is one way to get around cartridge limitations and is the best compromise I can think of. Even if I really dug Doom (putting it pretty high on my personal GOTY list last year), the multiplayer was basically throwaway. Sadly, if you opt for the digital version, you're going to get everything, so I guess your poor Switch will be completely clogged up when it comes to storage.

News:: Yes, Virginia, there is a new Style Savvy

I have to admit something. Ready? Are you sure? Okay, here I go:

I was wrong.

Back when I reviewed Style Savvy: Fashion Forward I said it was probably the last game we'd see in the series unless it went mobile. I based that prediction on absolutely nothing but my gut, a bit of truthiness if you will, and my gut was proven so very wrong today when Nintendo announced Girls Mode 4, known in North America as Style Savvy and Nintendo Presents: New Style Boutique in Europe, for the Nintendo 3DS.

News:: The new Dillon's Rolling Western will make a furry out of you

Early in the life of the Nintendo 3DS, we saw a few original games from Nintendo 2nd party developers pop up in the eShop. Games like Sakura Samurai, Freakyforms: Your Creations, Alive!, Pushmo, and Dillon's Rolling Western. Of those, Pushmo was the most well received and has gone on to be a franchise of its own. Dillion saw a sequel to its 2012 original, but it's been quiet ever since. In fact, I thought The Last Ranger was the last we were ever going to see and hear of the rolling armadillo.

The Japanese Nintendo Direct today proved me wrong.

Dillon's Rolling Western: The Dead Heat Breakers looks like a Mad Max inspired take on the franchise that sees Dillion battling on the open roads of a wasteland. Along for the ride is a Mii, perhaps your Mii if you should fancy it, that is transformed into a wolf but really just looks like a furry.

News:: Faking it: Understanding the Legacy of Kain timeline

[Kerrik52 embarked on a herculean effort to condense thirty-seven books' and ninety-four video games' worth of lore into an easy-to-read blog - all in an effort to give you, the plebeian soul you are, a basic knowledge of the Legacy of Kain series. Did it work? I read it, and the series can quite easily be summed up as, 'Giant Squid is rarely pleased.' Great work, Kerrik! This is part of our Bloggers Wanted series from August. Get your worked featured by Destructoid by writing a kickass blog like this one! - Wes]

The Legacy of Kain series is widely regarded as one of the greatest stories ever told in video games - and for good reason. The writing and acting is outstanding. But that story is somewhat complicated, being centered around time-traveling vampires and all. The timelines that bind the story together are awfully complex and makes it really hard to understand the plot in full.

But fear not, for after extensive research, that may or may not have been fueled by the finest third-grade narcotics that $5.67 can buy, I have managed to compile and explain the whole thing. Enjoy.

News:: Crash Bandicoot is getting the Funko Pop! treatment

Does everything have a Funko Pop! now? Will everything eventually be a Funko Pop!? Am I a Funko Pop!? What is life?

I have to admit I've fallen victim to the Funko craze, but mostly only when it comes to Star Wars. These, though... I might have to get one or seven of these.

News:: SteamWorld Dig 2 for PC releases next week!

The release date for the Switch port of SteamWorld Dig 2 was already known, but developer Image & Form was unsure about the PC and PS4/Vita versions. We were given a slightly vague "few days later," but now the date is out. You can nab the prequel/sequel on PC starting September 22 for $19.99/€19.99/£14.99.

If you're a Sony fan, then this is a good day for you, too! The latest entry in the SteamWorld series will be hitting PS4 and PS Vita on September 26. I suppose its nearly a week after the Switch port, but at least it is still coming within a decent time frame. It will also be the same price, though I'm unsure if it supports cross-buy. Either way, it won't be long before we're digging again.

News:: Here's everything you missed in today's Nintendo Direct

Not five minutes into today's 45-minute Nintendo Direct presentation, I felt like I was drowning in bite-sized 3DS announcements and release-window confirmations for known entities.

The company quickly covered a lot of ground before reaching the good stuff: surprise Switch ports for Doom and Wolfenstein II, and an extended look at Mario Odyssey, including two new worlds.

News:: Two new Super Mario Odyssey worlds revealed, one tropical paradise and one frozen hellscape

Predictably, Nintendo used this afternoon's Direct as another opportunity to push a little more Super Mario Odyssey on us. That's perfectly fine! We'll take every look we can get.

One of the bullet points in the Odyssey presentation (the whole thing's embedded above), was the reveal of two new worlds. They are Bubblaine in the Seaside Kingdom and Shiveria in the Snow Kingdom. Here are screencaps of each even though watching the video will give you the best idea what they're about (it starts at 1:50 in the video):

News:: Atlus is showing the 3DS a lot of love in 2018

The 3DS isn't going anywhere yet, and Atlus is helping to keep the handheld relevant. As part of today's rapid-fire Nintendo Direct presentation, Atlus brought several bits of news.

First up, there's a demo for Etrian Odyssey V: Beyond the Myth right now on the eShop. It's a good chance to settle in with the game and get an early start, too -- the demo has every character and class open, and your progress will transfer to the full version. You'll be able reach level 10 and play up until the third floor of Yggdrasil. Beyond the Myth is set for an October 17, 2017 launch on 3DS.

Three other role-playing titles are headed to the handheld next year, including The Alliance Alive from The Legend of Legacy studio FuRyu. Daemons went and took over the world of humans and it's time to put a stop to that nonsense with some good old turn-based combat. It's due in early 2018.

There's also Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology, which is coming to 3DS in the West early next year. The expanded port of the time-travel RPG touts new voice-overs, a third timeline with more what-ifs, a new theme song and opening animation from A-1 Pictures, and five new tracks.

Oh, and we've also got Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux in early 2018 as well.

This is an older trailer, but I wouldn't leave Strange Journey hanging. (It was covered in the Direct.) You still playing your 3DS, and more to the point, do any of these upcoming Atlus games speak to you?

News:: Skyrim will wreak its chaos on Nintendo Switch this November

The anticipated Switch port of the classic fantasy RPG Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim: Special Edition, will be landing on the Nintendo device this November.

The beloved Bethesda title will be released on November 17. That's almost six years to the day the game was originally launched on PS3, PC and Xbox 360, way back in 2011.

The Switch port has some interesting new tricks for the old dog, including Joy Con-exclusive mechanics for lock-picking, bow-firing and other chicanery. The port also features Zelda-themed items which can be unlocked via amiibo functionality.

News:: Try the gorgeous RPG 'Project Octopath Traveler' tonight on Switch

Project Octopath Traveler is stunning -- and tonight, Switch owners can try it out for themselves with a new demo. The game comes from Square Enix and the team behind lauded RPG series Bravely Default. Project Octopath Traveler is also an RPG filled with epic monsters and treacherous adventures, all in a hand-drawn, CGI, pixelated, shadow-filled world that developers have dubbed "HD-2D." Whatever it's called, the overall effect is fantastic.

News:: Kirby: Star Allies coming to Nintendo Switch early next year

It looks like the Kirby game Nintendo showed off during E3 was Kirby: Star Allies. This game features single player gameplay with three computer counterparts (or three buddies), but the newest mechanic seems the most interesting. Mixing powers to create other abilities, sort of like Kirby and the Crystal Shards on Nintendo 64. Star Allies looks to be a really cute and fun time.

News:: Nintendo arcade games are headed to Switch

Nintendo's bringing back a selection of its arcade games to Nintendo Switch, some more desirable than others. The festivities kick off with Arcade Archives Mario Bros. on September 27, 2017.

Other confirmed titles include: Vs. Super Mario Bros., Vs. Balloon Fight, Vs. Ice Climber, Vs. Pinball, Vs. Clu Clu Land, and Punch-Out!!. Pricing details weren't discussed, but I'm down for Vs. Super Mario Bros. for sure -- it's harder and has different levels than the original NES version we all know and love.

News:: Dragon Quest Builders coming to Switch next spring

Holy cow, Switch is getting a good chunk of Japanese role-playing games. There's that Octopath thing that's largely unknown, but then there's also the more familiar Dragon Quest Builders too. Announced during the Nintendo Direct, it's not far off, less than a year away with a planned launch for spring 2018.

We knew Dragon Quest Builders 2 was in development for PlayStation 4 and Switch, but this will give Nintendo fans a good preview of what that will have in store.

News:: Project: Octopath Traveler looks like a dream for RPG fans

The Switch exclusive RPG from Square Enix, Project: Octopath Traveler, looks like a real dream come true for old-school RPG fans. Combining an art style known as "HD-2D" (what?), the game is being developed by the same team behind the Bravely Default series and looks to pick up where that game left off. It also looks like a vast open-world, which gets me really excited.

News:: Doom and Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus are coming to Nintendo Switch

So, this is pretty cool right? Bethesda's Doom is coming to Nintendo Switch later this holiday, while Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus is hitting the system sometime in 2018! News:: Fire Emblem Warriors fights its way to Switch on October 20

There's gonna be a lot of sword swingin' and dude killin' come October 20. That's when Fire Emblem Warriors releases, as Nintendo revealed during this afternoon's Direct.

Alongside the game's launch are amiibo figures for Chrom and Xander (pictured below). It just wouldn't be a Nintendo game release without a simultaneous amiibo release.

Fire Emblem Warriors has been in the news a bit lately, as a retailer leak helped fill out the roster yesterday. Jordan didn't get to play as all the characters, but from what he saw at E3, he thinks it has the Warriors part nailed.

News:: ‘Doom’ is coming to Nintendo Switch this holiday season

Any Switch owner will tell you that ports are a big part of the console's ecosystem. Nintendo has already ported games like Mario Kart 8 to the convertible console, and upcoming titles like L.A. Noire and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim promise to fill out the library even further -- but so far, the Switch hasn't had any ports of AAA current-gen titles. Bethesda is about to change that. During today's Nintendo Direct, the company announced that it's bringing 2016's Doom reboot to the Switch.
