News::“Kickstarter is starting to wear itself out”, says a disheartened Gas Powered Games

Gas Powered Games CEO Chris Taylor has warned that the buzz surrounding Kickstarter is dwindling, following the failure of his own companies campaign for action RPG Wildman.

Speaking at Casual Connect in Germany, Taylor put Wildman’s Kickstarter failure down to the fact that so many people have already spent money on crowdfunded projects, and that many of them are still waiting for the games they have pledged for.

“Kickstarter is starting to wear itself out,” he said, as reported by VentureBeat. “It’s a numbers game. Someone has lightning in a bottle. This business is really, really tough. It’s turning into a lottery business, unless you work 12 hours a day, seven days a week, and study gaming for decades.

“Now, it’s tough. It’s like going to Hollywood and saying I want to make films. You have to compete with James Cameron. I’m leaning toward, ‘there is no free lunch’ when it comes to raising money for games.”

Gas Powered Games cancelled its Wildman Kickstarter with only a few days to go, having raised just $504,120 of the lofty $1.1 million goal.

Taylor went on to say that the industry’s focus on big sellers is strangling smaller devs’ ability to survive, and that he believes consoles are “going to just hit the wall” as a result.

“I have almost been driven out of business,” he said. “I am still in business. I know everyone in the industry. They didn’t help me. It’s about whether you have a blockbuster that can ship 10 million units.”

News::Review: Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 'Revolution' DLC sets out to recapture the series' DLC formula

GameZone's Tate Steinlage writes:" Four all-new Multiplayer maps, a new Zombies map, a new Zombies game mode, and -- for the first time in a Call of Duty game -- a brand new Multiplayer weapon. For some, thats no 'Revolution,' its a gimmick. At first glance, apart from some pretty visuals, Revolution seems to be the same old story. But at its core, its an experiment for Treyarch to venture into uncharted territory, and thats what Call of Duty: Black Ops 2s Revolution DLC is entirely about. That said -- is it a successful endeavor? "

News::Aliens: Colonial Marines review | Thunderbolt

Richard Wakeling, Thunderbolt: Aliens: Colonial Marines has been a long time coming. After suffering through development hell for a number of years and eventually cancellation, Gearbox Software leaped into action and took the reins to finally see this troubled product through to completion. A few years and numerous delays later its finally available to play, aping the similar path Duke Nukem: Forever took to release. Unfortunately, however, the similarities between the two games dont end there; the lengthy development culminating in another disappointment that, unlike DNF, is bereft of any creativity or redeeming qualities. Its been a tough road to get here, but Colonial Marines is a bad game no matter how you look at it.

News::Take Two steps in for WWE and Yuke’s

The WWE games and their developer Yuke’s have found a home in Take Two, according to Bloomberg. The deal will save what’s left of bankrupt former publisher THQ from having to deal with damages claims of as much as $60 million.

“By working together to transition development of WWE games going forward the parties have minimized the harm to WWE and Yuke’s, which have, in turn, agreed to substantial reductions of their claims,” said lawyers in the related court papers. Without the agreement, the papers suggest that WWE and Yuke’s damages claims would have been at least $30 million, and possible even exceed $60 million.

WWE and Yuke’s existing contracts will be now terminated and the companies’ employees will be free to take up employment at Take-Two. The report adds: “WWE agreed to waive its pre-bankruptcy claims of about $45 million and any claims for annual royalty advances of about $7.5 million for the licensing contract that would have run through 2017″.

“THQ will pay WWE $650,000 in royalty payments for the WWE games sold while under bankruptcy protection. THQ owns about 14 percent of Yuke’s equity and has agreed to give the Japanese developer the 1,552,000 shares, about $4.5 million in value, in exchange for a release of Yuke’s pre- bankruptcy claims of about $15 million to $20 million. Yuke’s will also get a $250,000 royalty payment.”

What a fantastic game Dishonored is there any doubt, but when Bethesda announced that the first DLC was just a bundle of challenges is the fact that I was a little disappointed. For 4.99 receive 10 different challenges, each focused on a particular type of game that has featured in the main game. The challenges of mobility test your ability to move through the world, while the challenges stealth challenge our ability to keep us in the dark. The combat challenges are for the most combative players and then there are still challenges that puzzle must complete the level with resources and limited skills. Each challenge has an online leaderboard and ranking stars. Get two stars gives the opportunity to play the same challenge with a difficulty level expert.

News::The Last Of Us delayed until June

The Last Of Us

The Last Of Us will now be released on PS3 on 14th June 2013, developer Naughty Dog has confirmed. It was originally slated for release on May 7th.

Writing on the PlayStation blog, the studio’s creative director Neil Druckmann explained that the team needed a little more time to match the high expectations for the title, and that the game will feature the “easily the longest campaign Naughty Dog has ever made.”

“As we entered the final phase of development for The Last of Us, we came to realise just how massive Joel and Ellie’s journey is,” he said. “But instead of cutting corners or compromising our vision, we came to the tough decision that the game deserved a few extra weeks to ensure every detail of The Last of Us was up to Naughty Dog’s internal high standards.”

“The extra wait will be very short and your patience will be rewarded. Update your calendars. You won’t even have to change seasons. The Last of Us will be available 14th June 2013. Until then, know that we will be working extremely hard to deliver an experience that matches your high expectations.”

Dead Space was the talk at the cashier's desk and I feigned my way through conversations. No more lies, I said one day.
