News:: Dead Star pulled from digital storefronts due to low sales

It seems that Armature Studios can't catch a break. ReCore launched to some tepid reviews and now its other game from 2016, Dead Star, is being pulled from digital storefronts. You can no longer purchase the game from the PlayStation Store or Steam, though everything will operate normally until November 1, 2016.

After that date, only the demo will be available to try. Armature Studios' director of operations, Jack Matthews, stressed to Kotaku that, "We are shutting down the game because, bluntly, the costs of operating the game now exceed its income." I guess launching with PS Plus in April didn't help sales.

Hearing news like this is always sad. Even if you don't like an indie game, you can't be too harsh on such a small team. Bigger studios create buggier games that often get a pass because of high production values, but indie games can be lost in the fray solely because of player expectations. It seems that Dead Star fell into the latter.

News:: Blizzard planning 'significant hero changes' for Overwatch

Overwatch's Principal Designer Geoff Goodman wrote a post on Blizzard's forums today announcing that the next patch might surprise people viewing the patch notes. Goodman wrote that his team intended to update Overwatch's Public Test Realm, or PTR, "later this week some time."

PC players of Blizzard's games have the option to download a second version of the game client that allows them to test out upcoming patches and game content before it's updated to the main game. This helps the developers find problems and tune the balances for characters before patches go live for everybody.

"Previously, we've been using the PTR... to make sure the game is solid and there aren't any heinous issues that would prevent us from releasing the patch," wrote Goodman. "This time around, the PTR is likely to be around a bit longer than before, so we're taking this opportunity to try out some more significant hero changes... [the] patch changes you guys see are unlikely to make it through PTR unchanged, unlike previous PTR cycles."

It's unclear what exactly Blizzard has planned for this next patch on the PTR, but Goodman did give one specific example of a change we won't see this time. "[S]ince I already know this will come up. There aren't any Symmetra changes for this patch. Her changes ended up being much more significant and require more time to finish up, but shes feeling pretty great internally so hopefully we can get her out there pretty soon." The team had previously announced that they wanted to make Symmetra more viable in game modes other than defense points.

While Goodman avoided mentioning the next playable character Sombra, it's highly likely that she'll be a part of the new PTR patch. We've already seen an image that looks like it might be the new character, and the website that was tied to her alternate reality game (ARG) changed last night, mentioning that she had completed hacking an E-54 omnic unit (Bastion). Ana, the most recent playable character, was available on the PTR for a few weeks before she was updated into the main game. Hopefully, we'll find out more soon, but there's always Halloween loot crates to work towards in the meantime.

News:: FINALLY! Nintendo NX will get a debut trailer on Thursday

The years-long wait to get an official account of Nintendo NX is nearly over

via gamesradar news http://ift.tt/2enrFYP

News:: Nintendo sets 'first glimpse' of NX for tomorrow morning

After precisely one billion years of rumors, speculation, and fakeouts, Nintendo will reveal the NX in some capacity tomorrow October 20. The company will be releasing a "preview trailer" on Nintendo.com at 7:00 AM Pacific time, or 10:00 AM if you're on the east coast with your bagels and your humidity.

Nintendo's press release was excruciatingly brief, only saying "This preview trailer will serve as Nintendo's preliminary announcement of information regarding the platform." The announcement on the official Nintendo site, although equally succinct, provides a hair of new information, specifically referring to the NX as a "home console."

For a long time (specifically, from the beginning of time until October 20, 2016 at 6:59 AM PDT), the prevailing NX rumor has painted the system as a mobile/console hybrid -- essentially a Wii U if you could bring the Gamepad with you on the bus. If the NX is just two Wii Us duct-taped together, I lose $20 from a long-standing bet. Don't let me down, Reginald.

October 20 is also when Rockstar will be unveiling the first Red Dead Redemption 2 trailer, one hour after Nintendo's announcement. Although we cannot directly confirm this, the Red Dead trailer will likely feature 100% less Mario.

News:: Nintendo promises our 'first glimpse' of the NX tomorrow at 10AM ET

After all the rumors, we're about to get a look at Nintendo's mysterious NX system. The company has invited everyone to check out a "preview trailer" tomorrow on Nintendo.com at 10AM ET. Nintendo Japan tweeted that it will only last about three minutes, so prepare your expectations accordingly.

News:: The Alliance Alive looks like a real game with its debut trailer

The other day, we told you about a new JRPG for the Nintendo 3DS called The Alliance Alive. Judging by your comments, most readers were none too impressed with the teaser footage that featured various blocky characters running through a big empty world. It didn't exactly make the best first impression. Perhaps the official debut trailer for the game, released today, will better resonate with you.

News:: 'Dead Rising 4' DLC is as ridiculous as you'd expect.

Golf, but with ridiculous instruments of death like a fire-breathing triceratops head instead of woods and irons. That's the pitch for Dead Rising 4's season pass of add-on bits and sounds like the best kind of absurdity. Specifically, the "Super Ultra Dead Rising 4 Mini Golf" mode that'll come out some time after the base game's December 6th release date. A post on Xbox Wire says that the game of undead putt-putt is made all the more difficult with zombies acting as hazards and generally getting in the way on the mini links. It isn't the Outlaw Golf sequel we've been clamoring for, but at least it's something.

News:: Come meet the English voice cast for Persona 5

After playing a game, do you ever look up the voice cast and trace their history only to learn that, "Oh whoa, he also played that guy? And he was in that show? What the?!" (Semi-related: I'm still not over the fact that Uncle Phil from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air was also TMNT's Shredder.)

Atlus has come out with the English voice cast for next year's Persona 5, and I'll save you the trouble with a Fun Fact regarding "the protagonist," who is played by Xander Mobus. Amazingly, he was also the announcer in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS, and voiced both Master Hand and Crazy Hand. Do what you will with that information. It might just save your life one day.

News:: EA reveals costs for renting private servers for Battlefield 1

Remember when EA said that you could rent servers for Battlefield 1? Well, the prices are out, and I hope you're loaded.

First off, PC prices are more expensive, straight up, compared to PS4 and Xbox One. It's $2.99 a day on PC ($1.99 on consoles), and the highest increment of 180 days will run you $150 on PC ($99 on consoles). There's no exact date given nor are there any advertised features outside of kicks and bans, but they're expected to drop in November.

Damn, is all I have to say. I remember back in the day when my friends would run Apache servers on their rigs for us to play on, and now it's $300 a year (on PC)?

News:: Drama Over Music Video Inflames Argument About What Anime Is

Yesterday, acclaimed American electronic musician Porter Robinson released an anime. Shelter is the short and tender story of a girl living alone in virtual reality, rendered by Japanese animation studio A-1 Pictures, that has received overwhelming praise over the last 24 hours. And, after its swift removal from Reddit’s 420,000-strong anime subreddit, Shelter has also become the latest peg in the debate over what actually defines “anime”— a debate that has apparently resulted in death threats to the /r/anime moderators.

News:: How interested are you in Horizon Zero Dawn?

Sony is content with trotting Horizon Zero Dawn out on stage at every event (including the latest PS4 Pro reveal), even if it's just another video clip, but it's surprisingly absent when it comes to general updates. Since it's due in February of 2017 you'd think there would be more fanfare at this point, but honestly, I'm okay with not having endless levels of hype a la No Man's Sky.

Still, there isn't a lot of info out there for it, and I definitely want to gauge how much you guys are digging it thus far. At this point though I trust Guerrilla Games. The Killzone series is hit or miss for me, but RIGS was excellent (as was the Vita Killzone game), and I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. For now, you can enjoy a new batch of screens Sony provided to make a better decision.

News:: A Western Game Where Players Literally Shoot The Story

News:: Amnesia Collection coming to PS4 just in time for Thanksgiving

The early Penumbra games were decent enough horror games, but Amnesia: The Dark Descent was the big hit that made Frictional Games a haunted household name (don't boo me). They later released a single piece of DLC titled Justine, and three years later the sequel A Machine for Pigs which wasn't quite as good as the original.

Surprisingly, this instant classic was never ported to console. Now it is. On November 22nd you'll be able to play all three on PlayStation 4 for $29.99 (digital download). Seems they weren't able to get it done in time for Halloween, even though there will be no new content added to the games.

At the time, there wasn't a ton of good, pure horror games out there, with Silent Hill putting out games fans didn't like as much as the main series and Resident Evil shifting towards action. A lot of people also complained about jump scares (still do in fact) in less than stellar horror games.

News:: Pokemon Sun and Moon demo showcases the older 3DS model limitations

It's getting to the point where the old 3DS models are almost no longer welcome. While there still are only several exclusives for the "New" edition that sports enhanced hardware, a lot of others run slower on older models, or have some limitations.

People are discovering this with the Pokemon Sun and Moon demo that just hit yesterday, as folks with original 3DS units have been reporting that they cannot use online functions outside of the game itself, like Miiverse, and the internet browser, without soft rebooting the demo first. This will probably be the case with the full game as well.

It's nothing new for legacy owners as Monster Hunter Generations and the new Smash Bros. did this too, but it's something to keep in mind. No one so far has reported any major performance differences outside of the aforementioned issues.
