News:: Nintendo Switch reportedly has a 6.2" multi-touch screen

Nintendo recently announced its Switch gaming system but intentionally left out details, both major and minor, in its initial preview. The console is a handheld and TV compatible, which I find exciting as a big fan of the Wii U GamePad, but what's the deal with the screen? Following up on its successful Nintendo Switch leaks from back when we still called the thing "NX," Eurogamer has some answers.

According to "a number of sources," the Switch has a capacitive multi-touch screen -- a step up from the resistive screens found in the 3DS and Wii U -- and it's sized at 6.2 inches with 720p support.

"So, how will the touchscreen work when the Switch is docked? While connected to your TV the Switch itself is out of reach -- you play either with both JoyCon controllers attached to the system's grip or with a Pro Controller," reports Eurogamer. "The Switch's touchscreen is almost entirely obscured within the console's dock. The answer may lie hidden in the right-hand JoyCon, which houses a short-range IR sensor in its base. This could be used to point at the TV to replicate basic touchscreen functionality, picked up by a corresponding IR sensor in the Switch's dock."

The outlet posits that this information was left out of Nintendo's brief Switch reveal video because the company wanted to keep its messaging focused and avoid repeating the public perception problems that the Wii U faced. I can't speak to these details personally, but I agree. There's clearly much more going on with the system than we saw, and we'll hear about it from Nintendo on January 12, 2017.

News:: Night at the Museum director reportedly helming Uncharted movie

What was originally a semi-interesting Mark Walhberg "family driven" drama from the mind of David O. Russell subsequently was dragged through development hell, and is now back from the dead. The project of course is the Uncharted movie, which has been confirmed and de-confirmed for years now -- but according to Deadline, it's getting fast-tracked with director Shawn Levy.

Levy has had a relatively successful career spanning two decades with safe family comedies like Cheaper by the Dozen, Night at the Museum, and Pink Panther, making him a pretty bankable director and an obvious choice for Sony Pictures to ensure that they at least make their budget back.

This hasn't been fully confirmed by Sony or Levy (nor has the obvious choice of Nathan Fillion as Drake), but then again, this is just another stop on the emotional roller coaster ride that is this film.

News:: Super Mario Run won't be entirely 'free-to-play'

During a recent financial presentation this past week, Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima discussed the pricing structure for the upcoming mobile game Super Mario Run. While no concrete figure was given, Kimishima did mention that gamers will need to pay to unlock "all of the game content."

This is similar to how Nintendo labels some of their 3DS games as "free-to-start"; I'm not sure I'm a fan of that wording, but it is a bit more honest than the more traditional phrasing. As such, Kimishima reassured everyone that after paying, "children can play it with peace of mind."

Along with that information, Nintendo iterated that the game will be launching in 150 countries in December. While we can assume Japan and the United States are included, there isn't a full list of countries available. I'm going to assume that anywhere the iPhone is, Super Mario Run will follow.

While I can't say I'm exactly thrilled that a main Nintendo franchise will be getting a mobile spin-off, having Mario hit phones was an inevitability. The Wii U was a pretty big misstep for the company, regardless of whether you liked it or not. Nintendo needs to recuperate their losses and putting Mario on iOS is a damn safe bet.

As for when the game will be coming to Android devices, no exact date was given. I'm not sure this presentation put anyone's mind at ease, but at least we know that Run won't be totally loaded with microtransactions.

News:: 'Minecraft' is coming to Apple TV

Today's Apple event might all be about Macs, but the folks at Cupertino are taking time to give some updates about its other products too. First up: Apple TV. On stage, Apple CEO confirmed that the owners can now have access to over 8,000 apps, and soon will become home to one of the most popular games on both consoles and mobile: Minecraft. That's right, Microsoft's huge open-world sandbox game will be available on Apple TV "by the end of the year."

News:: The new Apple TV app is: TV

The rumored TV guide app for Apple TV is here, just unveiled at the company's event. It brings TV and movies from the box's various apps into one browsable location. As demonstrated on stage by designer Jen Folse, pressing play within the guide can immediately start a video stream in an app like HBO Now, without any intervening menus. The main "Watch Now" menu knows which apps you've signed into with its unified login feature, and will show options that you have access to. "TV" isn't just for Apple TV either, as the app is also accessible from iPhone and iPad.

Another new wrinkle for Apple TV, is the ability for Siri to tune into live video streaming apps, and control third-party apps. The new features will arrive through a software update in December.

News:: Review: Earth's Dawn

Take a pinch of Odin Sphere's art and gameplay, toss in some Monster Hunter loot-grinding, and repetition, and add a smidgen of Gears of War for flavor. Let simmer and serve both digitally and in retail to the select few who didn't just buy Battlefield 1, Titanfall 2, or Skyrim: Special Edition.

Earth's Dawn isn't bad, and it's not great. I think this one is going to be missed by most, but some of you will certainly dig it.

News:: Nintendo Download: Corpse Party

The Wii U is shambling along with a new release this week in Just Dance 2017. It lives! You can also grab Lost in Shadow, Demonic Karma Summoner, Ectoplaza, and Solitaire on Wii U -- there's a big demonic/occult theme this week it seems, and I'm including the hypnotic moves of Just Dance in there.

On 3DS you'll find Corpse Party, Box Up, Butterfly: Inchworm Animation II, and Pixelmaker. But the Switch! I wonder what will happen come March 2017 -- if I'll still be doing this every Thursday for the 3DS and Switch. Only time will tell, but I can only pour one out for the great console that was the Wii U.

News:: Final Fantasy XV has gone gold, four player co-op DLC announced

Well, this is it fellas -- Final Fantasy XV is done with development. Now, onto DLC, as they say! Who's "they?" AAA publishers, of course.

Square Enix, today at Paris Games Week, has announced that the decade-long shindig is finally done, but of course, didn't hesitate to try to sell you on its $24.99 Season Pass. DLC for a main Final Fantasy game? It hasn't been natural since FFXIII-2. Anyway, there's going to be three episodes with new areas, new enemies, and additional weapons (that you can bring back to the main story) -- as previously stated, it'll deal with Gladiolus, Ignis, and Prompto respectively -- which you can buy separately from the pass.

But they also announced that after these three 'sodes, "Comrades," will arrive, which is a four player online-cop mode for all four party members as a group. Just...give me the main game already.

Check out the new trailer below as you mull over all this DLC.

News:: Silent Hill: Shattered Memories Made Horror Personal

When I first heard the original Silent Hill was getting a “reimagining” from Climax Studios, I groaned, thinking it was an attempt at a cash grab. I initially didn’t bother playing Silent Hill: Shattered Memories because no Silent Hill had been up to the quality of the first three (and, to a lesser extent, the fourth one, which is an entity in itself). But when multiple Kotaku readers pointed out that the remake was actually pretty good, I decided to give it a shot. The reimagining caught me off guard, crafting a unique, powerfully terrifying experience.

News:: 'The Last Guardian' soundtrack is getting a vinyl release

Pumped for The Last Guardian? Yeah, we are too. The long-awaited follow-up to Ico and Shadow of the Colossus stars a young boy and a giant feathered creature called Trico as they explore a world filled with broken, temple-like structures. The emotional puzzle-platformer has an equally distinctive soundtrack -- the work of composer Takeshi Furukawa -- and Sony has dropped a few extra pieces of news about audio in The Last Guardian.

News:: Every main Kingdom Hearts game is coming to PS4 next year

I was just recently talking to a few colleagues about Kingdom Hearts, and someone brought up the fact that it would be great if basically every game was on PS4 to lead directly into Kingdom Hearts 3. Well, Square Enix thinks that's a great idea too.

Today they just announced Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 Remix, which will collect six core games on PS4, bringing over some remasters from the PS3. Launching on March 9, 2017 in Japan and March 28 in North America, it'll include Kingdom Hearts 1, 2, Re:Chain of Memories, the 358/2 Days movie, Birth by Sleep, and the Re:coded movie. That's in addition to 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue that launches this January on PS4, which includes the 3DS game (Dream Drop Distance), Fragmentary Passage (a new game), and the Back Cover movie.

So if you buy those two (Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 Remix and 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue -- confusing, isn't it?), you're basically good to go on the main storyline, all on PS4.

News:: Monster Hunter XX announced, watch the full Nintendo Direct here

The Monster Hunter Nintendo Direct was only roughly 10 minutes long, and although we didn't get any real western-related news, we did get confirmation of a new game -- Monster Hunter XX for the 3DS.

It brings in two new hunting styles, G-Rank quests, additional monsters, and the ability to transfer data from Generations, as well as a Palico outfit bonus if you have a Stories save file. It looks fine, but I really wish they would just announce Stories already for the west (and subsequently, its amiibo line).

Monster Hunter XX will arrive on March 18, 2017 in Japan. At the moment, we have multiple Monster Hunter games that aren't confirmed for a localization.
