News::The next Silent Hill is coming from Hideo Kojima, Guillermo del Toro

Oh that Hideo Kojima.

During Sony's gamescom 2014 press conference earlier today, there was bizarre, eye-catching announcement for something called "P.T." which was said to be playable immediately for PS4 via PlayStation Network. It was shown so quickly that many of us didn't think much of it. Whoops.

Turns out that P.T. is a playable teaser for the next Silent Hill from, get a load of this, designer Hideo Kojima and director Guillermo del Toro. The game -- which seems to be named Silent Hills, presumably because that's how Kojima rolls -- stars actor Norman Reedus.

The ruse was figured out by Twitch streamer SoapyWarpig, whose playthrough of P.T. can be seen here. Skip to around 1:16 for the unveil or simply take a look at the .gif below. As someone who hasn't been much into the series in recent years, this is one hell of a way to win me back.

News::Join The Golf Club on Xbox One, PC, and PS4 this month

After a few months on Steam Early Access, HB Studios' The Golf Club is nearly ready for its final release on PC and consoles. The golf simulation title's launch on Steam and Xbox One is set for August 19, with a PlayStation 4 version also coming this month "pending certification approval."

Right in line with the current Early Access pricing, The Golf Club will cost $34.99 on all platforms. In addition to procedurally-generated courses to keep things fresh, there's an in-depth editor for creating your own levels -- and, notably, the option to download other players' custom-made courses for those of us lacking the necessary skills/patience for user-generated content.

I'd like to put in a request for someone to recreate courses from fantasy games like Mario Golf.

News::Take a closer look at PDP's GameCube-style controllers for Wii U

I think I'll be perfectly set with the GameCube controller adapter for Wii U, but PDP's line of GameCube-inspired controllers (known officially as "Wired Fight Pads") are another valid option.

Courtesy of Amazon, we now have some good photos of these gamepads. They are styled after Mario, Princess Peach, and Yoshi, and will be available later this year for $24.99 each. I dig the way they look, but I'd certainly want to see how everything feels before buying.

These are compatible with Super Smash Bros. as well as Wii / Wii U games that support the Classic Controller and Classic Controller Pro, and "most" Virtual Console titles.

News::Call of Duty: Advance Warfare- A New Direction for the Series?

Nerdist: "When it comes to big budget, triple A titles that get a bad wrap in the public eye, you'd be hard pressed to not hear Call of Duty brought up in discussion. I can't blame folks for their displeasure, either: the leap in innovation from game to game has been minuscule at best for the last several installments of the series. But there's a hero on the way who's dead set on getting the series back on course, and his name is Advanced Warfare."

News::Jotun Gets Through Steam Greenlight; Combat Teaser Video Released

J Station X writes "When I interviewed Jotun designer Will Dubé about the game earlier this month I learnt that the top-down action title is as much Dark Souls as it is Shadow of the Colossus. Its primary boss battles might seem to embrace SotCs gentle giant theme with whatever inspiration grabbing appendages but the jotun in Jotun are going to pulverise you to little Norse pieces if you dont dodge out of the way of their attacks. Like Dark Souls, theres a method in the madness of getting squished by a foot, a blade, or whatever over and over again in that Jotun challenges us to use our wits to defeat its enemies. I thought this sounded like a novel premise but being an in development game, Thunder Lotus didnt really have much to prove that to me. Theyve since put together a combat teaser video for Jotun, showing off the battle mechanics and such."

Mike from Twinfinite writes, "The mark of a truly great and truly hard platformer is when you fight your way through a level, die mere seconds beyond where you last died, and feel inspired by the fact that you've made it a bit farther. Many classics from the 8 bit era have this quality, and it's something few games are able to emulate even with all the techological advances in modern video games. Top Hat, the new game by N94 Games, sets out to capture that era while remaining accessible to current sensibilities. While it hiccups a bit with its controls, it generally does a pretty great job of it."

News::Cloud Chamber Review | Hardcore Gamer

Theres something very alluring about alternate-reality-games. They allow designers to craft intricate, baffling puzzles based around scientific minutiae and intense math that would be impossible to solve in a conventional game, and the community will crowd-source a solution. For the most part, ARGs are used for advertising purposes (Halos I Love Bees campaign is the most notable example), but in recent years that sort of insane puzzle design has begun to creep its way into our regular entertainment. Fez is infamous for puzzles that took the entire internet months to solve, and GTA Vs post-game alien mystery still has players stumped (though it might be an elaborate joke).
