News::Insurgency Post-Mortem Review | RGN

Mitch of RGN writes, "The game features two modes that are mainly being played right now by the community but there are other modes as well. Thankfully there are tons of players to enjoy the game with and this provides for a better experience overall, preventing a situation as seen recently with Rekoil having absolutely no populated servers. The community for Insurgency is actually surprisingly huge as well as the maps but of course not all servers are going to end up full all of the time, this leads to an occasional camp-fest during which the team youre facing up against will not leave their base and instead will employ a strategy of making your team bring the kills to them as they sit and wait patiently. Visually Insurgency is neither creative nor impressive. The games art direction is clearly lifted from the heavily popular online Modern Warfare series and titles that inspired it such as Counter Strike."

News::Rock, Paper, Shotgun: Impressions Elite: Dangerous Alpha

The current alpha for Elite: Dangerous offers a linear series of combat missions, with a narrative through-line about illegal toxic waste dumping, megacorp mercenaries and accidental collisions with asteroids. That may well be how the final game plays out for some people but Im more likely to spend my time exploring the farthest reaches of the galaxy, looking for unusual sights and making a few spacebucks by trading with whatever life exists at those penultimate frontiers. As such, the alpha only represents a very small portion of the Elite that I hope to play when all is said and done. With that in mind, here are my impressions of several hours in space.

And to be honest, I really miss those arcade 'Time Crisis' and 'House of the Dead' days. Perhaps it's just me, but I had a lot of fun with this new Rambo game (although I'd expect to see it priced at around $15 and not at $40)."

News::PopCap Spills Their Guts About Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare

Hardcore Gamer: For years now EA has been trying to come up with a COD killer, with little success. Both Medal of Honor and Battlefield have failed to measure up to the monolithic shooter franchise, and EA looks to be running low on IP that can be turned into modern shooters. Still, the company isnt done taking stabs at the FPS giant, and their next big, Frostbite-powered multiplayer shooter is aiming to skewer it mercilessly. But rather than taking an existing IP and turning it into a COD clone, Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare is built to parody the whole modern shooter concept. EA may not be able to take the Emperors crown, but theyre about to make it look like hes got nothing else on. Also theyre coming out with something called Titanfall, but thats small potatoes, and those potatoes dont even explode!

News::Ikaruga (PC) review | PCGMedia

The genius of Ikaruga's gameplay lies in its polarity system. There are two types of bullets, black and white. The player ship is able to shift between the two polarities with the press of a button. Bullets of the same polarity as your ship do not cause damage to you. In fact, they help to charge a special homing laser. In Ikaruga, enemy bullets can be your friends. PCGMedia's Tom reviews the PC port of classic shmup, Ikaruga.

News::Can Titanfall turn the tides of criticism for the Xbox One?

IM PLAYIN asks if Titanfall can change perceptions of the Xbox One. "I think the future perception of the Xbox One rides on the success of Titanfall, depending on how its received. If its a success, the critics might start to look at the One for its potential, rather than its shortcomings. If it bombs, then we should expect a lot more criticism coming the Ones way warranted or not. I think, either way, there probably wont be a unilateral agreement that Titanfall is a brilliant game. People will always pick holes in Titanfall and One fans will inevitably clutch at any bit of success in the game that they can find, whether it deserves it or not."

News::Metal Slug 3: PC Review | RGN

DJ Killzown Jones of RGN writes, "Metal Slug 3 is a 2D side-scrolling action shooter from SNK Playmore and DotEmu for the PC, IOS and Android. MS3 is a port from the 2000s Arcade/NEO GEO game of the same name. In MS3 you follow 4 soldiers (Marco, Tamara, Eri, and Fiolina) as they take on the evil forces of General Morden. The soldiers will have to hit the turf in many harsh environments, using many weapons and vehicles to mow down the enemy. The series is known is for its extreme difficulty and insane action and MS3 doesnt divert from the formula. The play controls his soldier using the arrow keys to move, space bar to shoot, Z key to jump and shift key to throw bombs at their enemies. The controls are simple and responsive but movement is held a bit by the animations. This can be a problem but once players get accustomed to the controls the game will flow more smoothly."

News::[Continue Play] State of Play - Prison Architect

Prison Architect is not an easy game. Its not a finished game either, technically; Prison Architect was released as a playable Alpha-build in September 2012. What this game is, is an incredibly moreish place where you can pour hours into a game without realizing it. When you stop to think about just how good this game is already, despite it being unfinished, you have a truly exciting prospect on your hands. Introversion, the team behind the game, are releasing (almost) monthly updates which add a ton of content and bug fixes, build by build. Back in January 2014 we shared with you the release of Alpha Build 17, which brought guns and armed guards to the table, but we would like to take a few minutes to give you a little more of an insight into this game, and tell you why you should be excited about it.
