News::Dark Souls Has Officially Forever Ruined Me For Other Games

Pixel Critique writes: Dark Souls has been described as one of the most pure gaming experiences available. For some time, I took that to mean that it was a return to the roots that gaming was established on, and cut down on the fluff that has cluttered certain aspects of the medium since then. In a way, thats true. But, in a much more serious way, describing Dark Souls as a pure experience effectively conveys its kindred resemblance to a pure narcotic, and the way that accepting it into your life can send your pleasure center into a downward, narrow spiral.

The difference between a licensed product designed to sell via the magic of marketing synergy and that of a game worth playing is the talent involved. Remember when THQ could be relied on to squeeze out a game based on any random Dreamworks project? PS2 dollar bins across the country are still stuffed with the results. Every once in a very long while you get Treasures GBA Astro Boy, or One Piece Pirate Warriors 2, but the stink of licensed gaming is thick enough that any announcement is automatically ignored as an unpleasant background odor. News::Marvel Run Jump Smash Review | Hardcore Droid

In writing this review of Marvel Run Jump Smash! I knew I needed to pin down when the commercialization of the Marvel franchise really began. Was it in 1977 when The Amazing Spider-Man first aired as a live-action TV series, lambasted by Stan Lee himself for being too juvenile? Was it a year later when The Incredible Hulk followed in its footsteps? Compared to other shows on the air at the time, like M*A*S*H and Schoolhouse Rock!, its hard to imagine that Marvel wasnt just trying to turn turds for profit. Then again, these shows can at least theoretically be enjoyed as camp classics, unlike the 2002 movie release of Spider-Man, which mostly consists of Mary Jane whining as she drowns in a sea of Tobey Maguires tears. The conclusion Ive drawn is that it all culminates in MRJS!, an Android app shameless enough to hide its crappy content behind paywalls while still charging $0.99 up front for the game. Can I get an Amen?
