News::Path of Exile Review | New Gamer Nation

A lot of people were disappointed in Diablo 3 and its end game progression system. Its been nearly a year since its release, and unlike its predecessor Diablo 2, not many people are still playing it. In fact, its rather likely that more people play 2 than 3, even though the former is around 13 years old. Thankfully, Grinding Gear Games comes to save the day with free-to-play action-RPG dungeon crawler Path of Exile. Sometimes there just arent enough adjectives for video game genres.

News::Dusty Raging Fist to debut on Wii U eShop this year

Dusty Raging Fist to debut on Wii U eShop this year screenshot

PD Design Studio has revealed a brand new Wii U eShop game called Dusty Raging Fist, which is based in the same universe as a lesser known game named Dusty Revenge .

It's a sidescrolling beat 'em up that features co-op elements, such as team resurrection and team up moves (think Streets of Rage). PD Design Studio's Keng Jin opens up a bit in an interview with Nintendo Life about developing for the Wii U, stating, "In terms of development, we don’t see a huge difference," but that the GamePad requires "new thoughts" to take into consideration and that it makes the process "exciting."

For once, it's nice to see a developer comment on the GamePad calm and collectively, and not like it's a major Earth-shattering design block. If all goes well, Dusty Raging Fist will launch later this year.

News::Disney debuts more Cars info for Disney Infinity

Disney debuts more Cars info for Disney Infinity screenshot

Disney has started a steady reveal of the worlds from Disney Infinity . First they showed off Monsters University , and today, it's the Cars world's turn to shine.

For those of you who don't remember, Infinity will feature two modes. One is a mode that restricts characters to their specific worlds, with franchise-centric missions, and the other is a sandbox that allows different IPs to interact.

In the Cars world, you'll visit Radiator Springs, racing through the town as Lightning McQueen, Mater, Holley Shiftwell and Francesco Bernoulli. I'm just going to assume no one saw the terrible Cars 2 and don't recognize those last two names, but yeah -- they're from Cars 2.

Here's all of the PR bull from the PS4 event condensed screenshot

Everyone has their opinion of how Sony's PlayStation 4 event went, but if there's one thing we can all agree, on, it was that there was more than the average amount of market-speak involved.

Like most flowery presentations, you'll hear "ecosystem" and "synergy," an awful lot, along with a little extra helping of that Fils-Aime hyperbole. Cheesy executive jokes? In a hardware event? Oh, they went there.

For me, the absolute lowlights were the buzz-killing "I got tear gased" speech (1:14), "old man physics," and the creepy as hell Watch Dogs guy (0:18). Personally, I don't think it gets any better than "borderline insane" DriveClub guy (1:02), who I would absolutely want to spend a day with just to feed off of his enthusiasm.

News::Rocketbirds: Hardboiled Chicken review

Believe it or not, we’ve never fired a shotgun at a penguin, but we imagine Vita action-adventure Rocketbirds: Hardboiled Chicken’s portrayal of such an event is quite accurate. It’s a moment that says a lot about the game itself: a blend of the real and the fantastical that veers wildly between moments of slapstick humour and disturbing drama, settling most often for a jet-black brand of comedy that tends to involve the murder of – or occasionally suicide by – flightless birds.

Rocketbirds’ systems, however, are a little safer. When the action hots up and our protagonist has Nazi penguins to shoot, it most resembles Metal Slug. Elsewhere, the more puzzle-led stages offer a mix of locked doors, environmental puzzles and backtracking that recalls Metroid, with the odd crate-shifting aside thrown in for good measure. In the main, its conundrums are intelligently assembled, though we soon tired of hunting key cards. The biggest deviation from the template comes in some clunky airborne shooting interludes that compensate for their awkwardness with brevity.

Otherwise there’s a polish here that belies the game’s browser origins, even if the Vita-specific additions – a tilt-controlled camera, rear touch for aiming grenades – are little more than token gimmicks. Above all else, its sheer force of personality overcomes any mechanical deficiencies. We’ve certainly never seen a poultry-based torture sequence set to a contemporary rock song before. And as for that shotgun, well, shooting penguins has rarely been quite so satisfying – or so we imagine.

News::Paranormal review | Thunderbolt

Shane Ryan, Thunderbolt writes: Im sick and tired of the found footage genre of horror films. Theyre the lowest common denominator. Effortless, worthless piles of quickly forgotten trash that serve to make quick money (buy less, sell high!) returns in the most cynical possible manner, and that only serve to reconfirm the myth that horror films are without merit, have nothing to say and are lacking in imagination. Which is the complete opposite of the truth for what they once meant. As reactions to culture and social pressures, albeit with some directors and producers looking for quick returns themselves as exploitation cinema exploded, they had something to say whether in style or substance, even with the lashings of fake blood and soft smut. Paranormal takes influence from this new breed of cinema cynicism and looks to do something new with an already tired format.

Somewhat addictive planetary domination on a comical level Planets under attack is a space-warfare strategy game brought to you by the same developers that introduced us to "Battle Vs Chess". News::Diehard GameFAN: Shadows: Price for Our Sins Review

DHGF: Shadows: Price for Our Sins is an above average HOG for a couple of reasons. The story, though it starts off slow, picks up as the game goes on and tells two tales that mirror each other in a nice way. The gameplay, though mostly typical, adds in some spice with the hidden object sequences. Having puzzles within puzzles is just nifty, and something more games should attempt to do. If youre in the market for a good HOG to kill some time, this is a solid option.

News::Crysis 3 Review | GodisaGeek

GodisaGeek: "If this turns out to be the last Crysis game, then its a shame, because Crytek deserve one last chance to finally create a game that realises the awesome potential of this series. A game that finally presents a balanced, hardcore challenge that forces you to use every single trick and tool at your disposal to succeed; that forces you to recon every area, scope out every hiding place, tag every patrolling enemy and savour every ounce of suit energy and every single bullet. Sadly, this is not that game, but thats not to say its not very good at what it does. The disappointment here isnt that Crysis 3 fails in any real way, but that once again Crytek have delivered a merely great game that falls short of its genre-defining potential. Regardless, Crysis 3 remains a solid shooter and a title worthy of this generations final hours."

DSOGaming writes: "Ill have to be honest; when I saw the concept art of the Europolis city for Dreamfall Chapters: The Longest Journey, I was amazed. This piece of work looked similar to CDPRs Cyberpunk 2077, therefore I was expecting something truly amazing. Instead, what well be getting is a cyberpunk city that looks so flat and lacks major effects (such as fog and proper reflections) and its lighting is average at best. News::Layoffs at EA as publisher repositions for next-gen

Electronic Arts has made an unspecified number of staff redundant across a number of studios worldwide.

EA’s Montreal and Los Angeles offices were the major studios hit, though other “smaller locations” have also suffered cuts.

The cuts have come about as a result of the company gearing up for next generation development, along with other new initiatives, clashing with expectations that teams will have to grow to sustain momentum and handle asset creation.

“Thousands of our existing employees have been retrained and redeployed to work on the new platforms and initiatives,” said EA Labels president Frank Gibeau. “But when it is not possible to redeploy a team, we soften the tough decisions with assistance.

“This week we let some people go in Los Angeles, Montreal as well as in some smaller locations. These are good people and we have offered outplacement services and severance packages to ease their transition to a new job.”

News::Diehard GameFAN: Aliens: Colonial Marines Review

DHGF: When a property gets licensed, usually the first reaction of gamers everywhere is to groan as our first experience is that the game is going to be almost a total bust, mediocre at best, and on rare occasions well get a gem out of it like Transformers: War For Cyberton or Batman: Arkham City. Sega licensed the Aliens franchise awhile back and Gearbox eventually ended up with the task of developing what would be considered a sequel of sorts to Aliens and Alien 3 but set far before Alien Resurrection. Some of the key things have made it into the game, some of the details theyve included are indeed amazing, but when it comes to driving a story in the campaign things get glossed over a bit, and the multiplayer, once I got mine working, isnt as much fun as it could be, but still delivers. So while we didnt necessarily get a gem, we didnt get a full on dud either. Lets take a look.

Matt Sawrey, Thunderbolt writes: Flyn is the kind of game in which everything has eyes. Big, bold, bashful eyes, cute as buttons and shimmering with innocence. The plants have them, the anthropomorphic antagonist hair dryer has them and the player controlled critters have them, expressing emotions in a wordless world of squeaks and bleats. Theyre a product of Flyns visual inspiration, which channels the character and lush vibrancy of Botaniculas fauna through the boldly contoured cartooning of Patapon and World of Goo, and it makes for a gorgeous, googly-eyed blend of influences.

News::Crysis 3 review (HonestGamers)

Mike Suskie writes: "For those unfamiliar, Crysis is a series best played on higher difficulties. Its big draw is that your nanosuit gives you a number of special powers armor, invisibility, speed, and strength that make even ordinary situations open-ended in approach, and naturally these shooters reach their peak when the opposition is relentless and you're forced to make inventive use of the options available to you. News::Even more 'Game Overs' in storybook rhyme

Even more 'Game Overs' in storybook rhyme screenshot

A couple weeks back, brentalfloss the comic began an arc parodying the dark comedy children's book The Gashlycrumb Tinies -- that book's author, Edward Gorey, is the subject of today's Google Doodle, by the by. Anyway, "The Game Over Tinies" features entries for every letter of the alphabet, each representing a game character's untimely demise. And it's deliciously clever.

Since my previous post, the comic covered the remaining letters, K-Z, which appeared in strips #145, #146, #147, and #148. The heroes and villains on stage this time include Mario (of course), Kirby, Final Fantasy VI's Ultros, and even SoulCalibur's Voldo. Most deaths are quite appropriate for their respective characters, but some are so out of left field -- I'm looking at you, X -- that they are nevertheless funny.

I really enjoyed these, and I hope you do to. I wouldn't mind plunking down money for a physical collection of all the strips!

News::How Aliens: Colonial Marines Seriously Screws Up Alien Lore

"According to 20th Century Fox and Gearbox, Aliens: Colonial Marines is part of the official Alien series canon. That means the disastrously bad shooter, which takes place shortly after the end of 1986's Aliens, has ramifications on 1992's Alien 3 and 1997's Alien Resurrection (which didn't do the lore any favors either). Major ones. Aliens: Colonial Marines' storyline features some lore-breaking elements that directly contradict major events from the films and makes me wonder if Fox and Gearbox (or TimeGate, or whoever actually developed the campaign) even understand what "canon" means.
