Electronic Arts has made an unspecified number of staff redundant across a number of studios worldwide.
EA’s Montreal and Los Angeles offices were the major studios hit, though other “smaller locations” have also suffered cuts.
The cuts have come about as a result of the company gearing up for next generation development, along with other new initiatives, clashing with expectations that teams will have to grow to sustain momentum and handle asset creation.
“Thousands of our existing employees have been retrained and redeployed to work on the new platforms and initiatives,” said EA Labels president Frank Gibeau. “But when it is not possible to redeploy a team, we soften the tough decisions with assistance.
“This week we let some people go in Los Angeles, Montreal as well as in some smaller locations. These are good people and we have offered outplacement services and severance packages to ease their transition to a new job.”
