News::onPause Review: Deadpool

Leading up to the release of Deadpool, there was one thing every Deadpool fan was wishing for: please dont be awful. While that seems like a pretty standard request, comic book games have a poor track record. With the success of the Batman: Arkham series, comic book games have a much higher expectation to meet. Deadpool is a character that has the ability to translate well to a video game, but how did High Moon Studios handle this transition? It isnt terrible, but it is far from being a good game.

News::Indie Fund backs recently-Greenlit FRACT OSC

Having previously supported titles like Monaco , The Swapper , and Antichamber , the Indie Fund has proven itself as a suitable curator of high-quality, interesting independent titles. While we were already keeping an eye on self-described musical exploration game FRACT OSC, hearing that the group will offer financial support to developer Phosfiend Systems is indeed reassuring.

The end result for us players is that FRACT is safely on track for a 2013 release across Windows and Mac. If you've seen what this game is shaping up to be -- it's not too late to peruse the official website, by the way -- you know there's good cause to be excited for this one. You like Tron, Myst, and synthesizers? How about all of those, mashed together?

Theres weird, and theres Japanese weird. Dark Souls is bizarre done right. It adds to the immersion of being in a different realm. XP? No, you collect souls. Sell items? News::Stealth Bastard Review - Mini Steam Reviews

Lurking in the shadows and tiptoeing around enemies is not my idea of a good time. So I was greatly relieved to find that Stealth Bastard is not really a stealth game at all. It is first and foremost a puzzle platformer with a dash of stealth to round it all out. You play as a clone whose purpose is to make his way through a series of deadly mazes using only your sharp intellect and quick reflexes. With nothing to defend yourself, you must rely on environmental objects to solve each stage. This often involves repositioning objects to provide the best cover from prying security cameras and patrol bots...

News::NetherRealm promises more Injustice DLC character news

General Zod, the last of the core DLC line-up for Injustice: Gods Among Us, is available for download as of today. He joins Batgirl, Lobo, and Scorpion which, when you run through the list like that, doesn't seem like a whole lot. More roster additions are on the way, thankfully.

When asked if there would be any new DLC character announcements soon, NetherRealm Studios creative director Ed Boon replied with an emphatic "YES!" Perhaps we'll also get to hear more about what's up with the Wii U version of Injustice before too long here.

Any input on where NetherRealm should take future DLC? I'm sure there are plenty of suggestions regarding who not to include.

News::League Of Legends North American LCS Summer Split Analysis: Week 3

WC - This weekend marked week 3 for the LCS Summer Split, and for a change, it was streamed from Anaheim, California. While some teams, such as Cloud Nine, continue to hold their dominant #1 position, other teams, like TSM Snapdragon, fell hard. This week was the ultimate set of comebacks, like the one Team Curse pulled over TSM, and extremely lengthy games, such as one between TSM and Counter Logic Gaming that lasted a little over 60 minutes. Some players shined on each team, while others were forced into bad positions. Overall, it was an unbelievable week of action that helped break last weeks five way tie for second in a big way.

News::Deadpool lives up to his character in his new game (Examiner)

Deadpool is quickly becoming the most popular character in the Marvel Universe. Clearly, he is the character with the most personality, and has many different storylines running in comic books. Played by Ryan Reynolds in Wolverine: Origins, there is also potential for his own standalone movie in a few years. So it is only fitting that Deadpool gets his own feature game. No matter how the game played, it was important that High Moon Studios portray the character accurately. Fortunately, Deadpool is portrayed perfectly in an over-the-top beat em up game.

News::GamesRadar - Leisure Suit Larry Reloaded review

GamesRadar - Youd have to search high and low to find a raunchy game as beloved as the original Leisure Suit Larry. The decidedly randy adventure introduced a pre-internet generation of young PC gamers to a world of double-entendres, gambling, and the ceaseless pursuit of sexual conquest. More than 25 years after its 1987 release, a Kickstarter-funded group (including the games creator Al Lowe) has put together an HD remake of Larrys first foray into the world. The results are a uneven; while Reloaded remains faithful to the source material and is clearly aimed directly at its legacy fanbase, its gameplay doesnt translate nearly as well to the modern gaming era.

News::Add your own colorful phrases to AVGN Adventures

In my E3 preview of the upcoming comedy platformer Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures, I noted that each time you die a random Nerd phrase appears on screen. Fans of the Nerd's foul-mouthed escapades are quite familiar with the colorful insults he hurls at less than optimal games. You know, like "I'd rather have a buffalo take a diarrhea dump in my ear! or "I'd rather press my face against a hippopotamus' butt while it muck spreads!"

I also mentioned that fans would be able to suggest their own death phrases and have them included in the game. Sam Beddoes of FreakZone Games, developer of AVGN Adventures, has begun accepting suggestions on the game's Facebook page. It's sort of like a Mad Lib in that there are two phrase templates and you must fill in the blanks with anything you can think of -- barring copyrighted names, real people, or racial / sexist language, of course.

The phrases are "I'd rather ______ a ______ than continue this ______ game!" or "This game is ______ ______ coming from a ______'s ______!" Think you guys can come up with some clever gems? Be sure to comment directly on the Facebook post.

Im supposed to hate this game. I dont. I found this game to be a lot of fun and fairly polished. FTL: Faster Than Light was one of the first big Kickstarter videogame success stories. After earning more than twenty times its original goal early last year and releasing in the fall, we loved it. We weren't the only ones, of course, and now some fans have taken it upon themselves to create a first-person multiplayer homage to the sci-fi roguelike, calling it Final Frontier.

It is still in the early prototype stages right now, existing as a mod for Garry's Mod, but it may end up as a standalone game. Though it mostly exists as a concept right now, it feels like it could turn out to be a mash up FTL with Artemis Spaceship Bridge Simulator , in that it could be totally rad or completely disastrous, depending on the competency of the crew involved. Either way, with some [read: a lot of] work, Final Frontier could be quite a bit of fun.

News::Get motoring with new demo of Sonic-like Freedom Planet

Earlier this year, throwback platformer Freedom Planet by GalaxyTrail Games blasted through its Kickstarter campaign and almost all of its stretch goals. If you haven't been following, Freedom Planet draws heavily from the SEGA Genesis era, most obviously from Sonic the Hedgehog but with nods to others like Rocket Knight Adventures. It fondly recalls a time when animal mascots reigned supreme and playing games early on Saturday morning was something to look forward to.

A new demo for PC and Mac was just uploaded to the Freedom Planet homepage. I didn't have many major complaints with the original demo from last year, but this update highlights many other issues that I've only just noticed in hindsight. The graphics have been given an enormous bump, with far more defined backgrounds and objects as well as all new character sprites. The HUD has also been overhauled, and now your special meter fills automatically, allowing for faster gameplay and an expanded set of abilities.

The wildcat Carol Tea, one of the demos two playable characters, now has a motorcycle that she can summon whenever you find a gasoline container on the ground. She can ride it seemingly indefinitely -- it won't dissipate until it has absorbed a decent amount of damage. Bitchin'.

Download the demo and vote for the game on Steam Greenlight if you haven't. Freedom Planet is targeting a 2014 release at the latest.

News::Need for Speed: Most Wanted Review | RealGamerNewz

Danni of RealGamerNewz writes, "Many people will tell you that Need for Speed Most Wanted is one of the best Need for Speed games ever made. So you can imagine peoples reactions when Criterion Games announced they were going to release an updated re-imagined version of the game, me included. Let me just straighten something out now. I love Need for Speed, I played, finished and loved everything from Underground to Carbon, and Ive even played games like Gran Turismo, Forza, and PGR and loved them too. So just take it from me when I say this. THIS GAME IS TERRIBLE. Theres no sugar coating it, its awful, and woeful and glitch-ridden."

News::Denkiphile: Magrunner: Dark Pulse Review

Grant from Denkiphile: "Despite the large amount of games that people claim to have been influenced by the Portal games, their actual gameplay looked and played nothing like it. However, Magrunner: Dark Pulse actually does take a good amount from Portal almost to the point where it is hard to tell the difference between the two at first glance. However, when you actually get to play the game, it sets itself aside with very different ways to solve puzzles."
