News::Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Review (Single Player) - The Games Cabin

The Games Cabin - "Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare treads familiar ground though does make an attempt to spice things up with the inclusion of exosuits. Tight gunplay and entertaining action-sequences still manage to impress whilst the graphics have seen a complete overhaul. It's Call of Duty, but not as you've ever seen it before. If it's the story you're here for then you'll be left with a sour taste of disappointment, though hardcore fans will still enjoy the 5-6 hour world-wide romp. Just don't expect to be moved to tears by the end."

News::Dungeon of the Endless Review | The Game Scouts

Mark Brenner: In between Endless Legend and Endless Space therein lies Dungeon of the Endless. Its almost as if Legend and Space met up somewhere and made hot, mad pixel love to each other and Dungeon was the spawned result. So while the game sounds like a spin off, it plays remarkably better. During its early development, I remember reading that Dungeon of the Endless was supposed to have elements of rogue-like dungeon crawling and tower defense. That seemed confusing at the time. I just could not envision a game where you build towers to destroy waves of enemies, yet controlled a character that explored procedurally generated dungeons. It didnt compute.

There's an excellent set of skills available to take advantage of an enemy's weaknesses too to create unique experiences throughout.

WC: For the remainder of the year and beyond, these 12 games, many of which have already been delayed, are likely to be struck by the delay curse. Why would this be? News::Shadow of Mordor and Alien: Isolation Prove That Movies Can Become Great Games

NDTV: Two of the most praised games of this year are Shadow of Mordor and Alien: Isolation. New titles like Destiny and Titanfall were the most anticipated names to watch this year, while few were expecting great things out of games based on existing film franchises. Yet on Metacritic - an aggregator of game reviews - you can see that these franchise games were much better received, by critics and users alike. Trying to compare these very different games is of course silly, but it does raise an interesting point. When video games based on movies are widely acknowledged as terrible - and vice versa too, as anyone who has watched movies based on video games can tell you - how is it that two of the best received games of the year are based on movies?

News::The Terror of Alien: Isolation and the Evil Within

Because video games are so good at making players feel powerful, they also excel at conveying powerlessness. Rendering a player weak, instead of strong, creates vulnerability and often fear. Yet its been a while since big-budget games really zeroed in on making the skin crawl. So its welcome that horror has made a comeback this year with two major games Alien: Isolation and The Evil Within that want you to feel hopelessly overmatched against a malevolent force.

News::Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor Review (Denkiphile)

Brian from Denkiphile: "There are three kinds of Lord of the Rings fans: Those whove seen the movies, those whove read the books, and those whove read the Silmarillion. I happen to fall into the third group. For those who dont know The Silmarillion is the basis for everything in Lord of the Rings. Its J.R.R. Tolkiens history book for Middle-earth. It begins with the creation story for his universe by Eru and goes on to describe pretty much everything that follows, leading up to the events of the Lord of the Rings. Its pretty hardcore and definitely not for everyone. Coming into Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor I had an inherent bias against it. I felt that a game that takes place between The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings was largely unnecessary, especially since its not canon. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the final product."

News::Alien: Isolation fills up the quiet space that keeps Resident Evil so scary

Alien: Isolations apex predator, that two-mouthed berserker freak, isnt the smartest xenomorph around. Stuck behind an overturned hospital bed while H.R. Gigers monster paces hungrily around in front of you? Just toss a flare into the opposite corner of the room. The dummy will go crouch over it like a stoned freshman in front of a Lite Brite. The thing is startling when it wrenches open a locker to eat you or when it oozes saliva down from a vent above you, but thats just because of the raw, animalistic threat it poses. Its nerve wracking, but not necessarily scary. Fearreal, knuckle-sweat fearcomes not from the aliens face but the noise it makes.

News::Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Review - STN

STN: When a new Call of Duty rolls into town you generally know what to expect, after all, when you have a winning formula that makes you a bucket load of cash each year, why would you mess with it? You wouldn't, unless of course the people who buy your games start to get fed up with the formula and sales suffer as a result. So what do you do to counter that? Appoint a new developer, making for a three year lifecycle for the series and of course, add new guns, technology and a kick ass actor.
