News::OXCGNs Call of Juarez: Gunslinger Review- Shot Down, or a Blaze of Glory?

OXCGN: "There are certain periods of history that are just perfect for video games, and the Wild West is one of them. The big change to the series this time is that it is a downloadable on Steam, Xbox Live Arcade, and the Playstation Networkand is a lot cheaper. Does that mean that Ubisoft have skimped on the quality of the title, looking to make easy dough?"

News::Crypt of the NecroDancer is a roguelike/rhythm mash-up

If I ever find myself locked in a dungeon, dancing will be my escape; this is what the trailer for Brace Yourself Games' Crypt of the NecroDancer has taught me. The game -- "a hardcore rhythm-based roguelike" -- is a veritable new one, as far as I can tell. In it, you'll perform actions to the beat in procedurally-generated dungeons. Just ... watch the trailer. It'll make sense.

If you have any concerns about the music quality itself, know that notable game composers DannyB and Alec Holowka are attached to NecroDancer. And since you can also load your own MP3s into the game, there shouldn't be anything to worry about on that front.

News::OneHitPixel Review - Dead Island: Riptide

Videogames are fun; its a statement that highlights what has kept the industry alive for decades. Sometimes, they try to be something more, with David Cage leading the way with experiences such as Heavy Rain and Fahrenheit. However, Dead Island decided to ignore the industrys revolution of engrossing storylines, intriguing characters and uncanny realism to focus on why games became the multi-million industry it is today: mindless enjoyment. But aside from the plethora of dismembered limbs and interesting weapons, there was very little about the original title that was memorable.

News::Call of Juarez: Gunslinger Review | GIZORAMA

GIZORAMA - Call of Juarez: Gunslinger is Techlands fourth entry in the Call of Juarez series. A budget title with a $15 price tag, its a stylish first-person shooter set in the lawless Wild West of the late 1800s. Though it certainly has more-than-competent FPS gameplay, the stars of the show here are the new and interesting storytelling mechanics that deserve much more than a passing glance. The entirety of the gameplay is presented as a flashback while an aging bounty hunter by the name of Silas Greaves recalls stories from his lifes outlaw-tackling career to a handful of listeners in a quiet saloon. The player controls Silas the younger, as his much older self narrates the happenings of the gameplay in a Bastion-like manner. As a result, this mechanic leads to some intriguing events which well get into a little later in this review.

Leviathyn says: "Completely oversaturated with titles, the tower defense genre seemingly prides itself on copious amounts of games of all kinds. News::Mojang's open beta for Scrolls kicks off next week

The card-centric strategy title Scrolls will be available in an open beta capacity for PC and Mac starting June 3, 2013. This is Mojang, so you'll need to pay up -- £13/€15/$20, in this specific case -- to play the work-in-progress game. Here's a launch trailer to catch you up to speed.

Did Mojang fans at large ever come around? I seem to recall Scrolls garnering criticism for being what it is, which felt inevitable coming off of Minecraft. I'm not particularly into card games either, but I did enjoy Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes and I am seeing a bit of that here.

News::The Curiosity Experiment In Quotes

John Bedford (Modojo): Earlier today, Peter Molyneux announced that the final cube had been removed in the Curiosity experiment, bringing the event to a close. The winner, Bryan Henderson from Edinburgh Scotland, will become "the god of all players" in 22cans' upcoming Project Godus as part of his "life-changing" prize. In addition, Henderson will also receive a certain share of the profits generated by Godus. It's a been a long and sometimes bumpy road for 22cans, from launch delays, to show-stopping technical troubles as the servers became overloaded, in-app purchase controversies, and skepticism when Molyneux turned to Kickstarter to fund the studio's second experiment, Godus. Much has been written about the experiment since its inception, but here are some of the most memorable quotes from the man himself.
