News::Thief Has An Old-School Homage Mission. Which Is DLC. Sigh.

News::The Steam Family Sharing beta has started

With Steam's Family Sharing feature, you can lend your Steam library with "family members" who are on authorized devices and all parties involved retain their own achievements and save files. A nice addition, certainly, though it's not quite here yet -- at least not for most of us.

As promised, the beta has rolled out. The first thousand invites have been sent out via email. If you'd like in on this action, join the Family Sharing Group on Steam. Perhaps more importantly, there's now a user guide with helpful information for the rest of us plebeians while we're stuck here waiting. It's something of a disappointment that entire libraries are shared as opposed to individual games, but that's to be expected. Truly, that would be outrageous.

News::How does GTA V's Los Santos compare to Los Angeles?

GameTrailers went on a tour of Los Angeles to compare the real city streets to that of Grand Theft Auto V's Los Santos. The video tour focuses on the big touristy spots around Santa Monica, with some glimpses at Hollywood too.

So how do the two compare? Pretty close for the most part. Santa Monica pier isn't as lively in Los Santos as in real life,

News::Microsoft pledges 10 years of Xbox One support

"For us, it's not just about the launch date. It is about the start of the journey where the console will be improved and will be adapted and changed," Microsoft's Phil Harrison said at his Eurogamer Expo 2013 keynote. Xbox One is, according to the corporate vice president, looking at a "more than 10-year journey." Better strap in.

That time frame is to be expected of game consoles, I think. It's not so much the hardware that changes dramatically as it is the software -- the platform holder's strategy. For as down as some of us are on the Xbox One right now, think back to how your opinions of this current generation's systems have changed over the years.

PlayStation 3, I'm looking at you. Sony sure has turned it around. There's still hope that history will look back on the Xbox One favorably, even if it takes Microsoft years to reach that point. We can rest assured knowing that someone will be giving the company hell every step of the way.

News::FIFA 14 Review - Heading In The Wrong Direction

Mr. Kennedy of TheKoalition.com writes: EA Sports has had a long and storied history with the sport of football since they released FIFA International Soccer in 1993. Since that release, we have seen a brand new FIFA title released virtually every year since that initial football game and FIFA 14 is the latest in the long line of titles. EA's primary focus for FIFA 14 is to slow down the play and become more methodical. Players are encouraged to try and slowly build up their play through midfield and find a way through their opponents defense. This shows that EA were somewhat listening to the complaints of FIFA 13's mindless counter-attack style. The other added features includes "Pure Shot" which EA told us will "transform shooting, making every shot attempt feel real, and when players connect with the perfect strike, feel exhilarating." This means the higher-quality players will still be able to shoot rather effectively whilst losing their balance or being challenged for the ba...

News::Operate on aliens in new Surgeon Simulator procedures

The Surgeon Simulator 2013 has come through for us all. There was another alternate-reality game hidden inside of this hilarious title from Bossa that sounded like a real headache to solve -- but it's been figured out, thankfully, and the reward for doing so is pretty great.

YouTuber MattShea369 walks through the process. To dive into the new surgery, start by going to the the brain transplant operation in space. There's a keypad on the right -- enter the code "296145." You'll return back at the office with a new VHS tape that has alien symbols. Toss that into the player to start operating on an alien. Quick question: What's a Gavichal?

Machinima's live-action Mortal Kombat series has returned with season 2. Unlike with the first season, all ten episodes are live right now. That's pretty sweet, especially as I couldn't just stop with one episode here.

The production quality here is top notch, and I really liked the fighting sequences way more this season. There's still some overall bullsh*t with direction though. Like how episode five is basically episode four all over again. Uh, thanks for that Machinima.

News::Humble Mobile Bundle 2 debuts Star Command on Android

The Humble Bundle people are at it again, with the second official mobile bundle, though they have had other Android-based bundles before they started numbering. This is the standard Humble Bundle affair: pay what you want, designate how the money is allocated, pay more than the average for extras, grab some soundtracks for good measure, and then check back in a week when the bundle will "surprise" us with new additions.

To be honest, this grouping of games is a bit underwhelming. Reactions to Star Command were mixed (though Chris gave it a positive review), and Punch Quest was already a part of my Android library. The other titles are Time Surfer, Bloons TD 5, Ravensword: Shadowlands, and Carmageddon, none of which are really tickling my fancy. Regardless, the bundle is already doing just fine for itself, grossing more than $350,000 in its first day.

News::Rumour: Rush and Deftones in Rocksmith 2014?

Seems like there are more Unofficial Announcements these days than real ones from Rocksmith 2014. Yesterday, Orange Amps released a statement about the addition of their gear in Rocksmith 2014. The following is an excerpt from the PR: "The game features a range of Orange Amps including the Rockerverb, Tiny Terror, AD and OR series amps plus speakers such as the PPC412 and OBC810. These can be used to play over 50 new songs, in a range of new modes, using a completely redesigned interface and includes classic amp modelling and tracks by Orange artists including Rush, Deftones and Mastodon. Plus for the first time ever you can jam with a virtual band that dynamically reacts to what is played by the guitarist through the chosen amps."
