News::Microsoft pledges 10 years of Xbox One support

"For us, it's not just about the launch date. It is about the start of the journey where the console will be improved and will be adapted and changed," Microsoft's Phil Harrison said at his Eurogamer Expo 2013 keynote. Xbox One is, according to the corporate vice president, looking at a "more than 10-year journey." Better strap in.

That time frame is to be expected of game consoles, I think. It's not so much the hardware that changes dramatically as it is the software -- the platform holder's strategy. For as down as some of us are on the Xbox One right now, think back to how your opinions of this current generation's systems have changed over the years.

PlayStation 3, I'm looking at you. Sony sure has turned it around. There's still hope that history will look back on the Xbox One favorably, even if it takes Microsoft years to reach that point. We can rest assured knowing that someone will be giving the company hell every step of the way.
