News:: Okinawa Rush could get a taste of The Baz if we're lucky

I've seen a lot of great rushes come and go over the years. Sonic Rush, Sugar RushSan Francisco Rush: 2049, Rush, and of course, August Rush are just few off the top of my head. With the rush market already over saturated to the point of bubbling over, it's especially hard right now for anyone to try to rush in and make a name for themselves in "the rush zone".

It will be interesting to see if Okinawa Rush has what it takes to overcome all that. Matt from Two Best Friends Play brought the game to my attention a week or so ago, and I've been meaning to write about it ever since. It gives me a real classic Sega feeling, hearkening back to the original Shinobi and Streets of Rage, but with a lot more enemies on screen at a time, a deeper combat system, and some light RPG elements. Maybe the reason it hasn't been funded yet is the character designs are a little on the vanilla side? Also, people often assume that crowd funded games with relatively low funding goals don't need as much help, so they don't bother helping. Sadly, that's left one too many otherwise worthwhile Kickstarter projects dead in the water.

With just a couple days to go and a couple thousand dollars to raise, I think this one just might make it. Matt tells me there's a chance the devs will include The Baz in the game if it does. That will make over four major game appearances for the Two Best Friends icon, including Divekick, Shovel Knight, Pocket Rumble, and Colossal Kaiju Combat. If you'd like to see see Okinawa Rush become the fifth, you can back it here

News:: We might be getting a Shenmue 1 & 2 pack for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One

Much like the Vanquish & Bayonetta two pack I reported on earlier, multiple Eastern European retailers seem to have leaked a two pack of Shenmue and Shenmue II for Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Once again Alza has a listing, along with Heureka, GetGame, and MadGamer. Each retailer has a listing for both Xbox One and PS4.

News:: Steambirds Alliance has a solid 'what,' but the 'why' is unclear

We first heard about Spry Fox's Steambirds Alliance two years ago, just before PAX Prime 2015. At PAX West 2017, I got to sit down and play a bit of the massively multiplayer online shoot-'em-up, and it was a cool playground for cooperative bullet hell with an RPG bent.

After flying around for a while, the gameplay loop was pretty clear (shoot things, get loot, be better at shooting bigger things), but it felt like I was missing some context. It was easy to understand and it was fun enough for a few minutes, but the demo itself didn't do much to explain why we should stick with it.

News:: It looks like a Bayonetta & Vanquish two pack is coming to PS4 and Xbox One

Both Bayonetta and Vanquish received pretty solid PC ports in 2017. It was nice to see some of Platinum's best games back in the spotlight again.

Console players rejoice because a Bayonetta & Vanquish two pack has been spotted online for both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

News:: Review: Observer

Polish studio Bloober Team has a knack for making things come alive that aren't supposed to. In Layers of Fear, paintings distort in front of you. In Observer, digital advertisements do the same, and eventually, so do the environments themselves. That's what happens when you find yourself somewhere in between perception and reality.

Observer takes a stack of pages from George Orwell's 1984 and Ridley Scott's Blade Runner, but it never feels derivative. Instead, it's a wholly engaging look at the choices we make, how and why we make them, and the consequences they bring. Those concepts are packaged together nicely with a gritty cyberpunk setting and enough body horror to have me feeling just a tad bit sick a couple of times.

News:: Steins;Gate Elite listed for PS4, PlayStation Vita... and Nintendo Switch?

Steins;Gate Elite, an updated version of the time travel visual novel Steins;Gate, has started appearing on a variety of websites online in preparation for Tokyo Game Show 2017. A simplistic website for the game has launched, for example. It features an image of Okabe Rintarou entering a time machine drawn in Huke’s signature style. Both PS4 and PlayStation Vita logos can be seen on the website.

News:: Everybody Is Golfing....on Xbox?

[There's been a surprising amount of buzz surrounding Everybody's Golf. Long time community member PelicanPrazed (yes, this has always been his name) decides to give it a whirl on Xbox One for himself, to hilarious results. ~Bass]

Look! Now everybody is golfing!

I was talking to a new user recently and they were like “Yo, Pelsy! Did I accidentally join Golftoid? There's so much talking about golf here! What gives?” And I was like “Yes that’s totally a nickname people have affectionately been calling me. Ol’ mischievous PelicanPrazed, who…who has always been me. M-my name. Never been known by anything else. Prazy Pellers! And no, new person who is totally not fictional, this is Destructoid! A video game website. A site where people come to talk about video games that they’ve been playing. Like…uh, Mario. And that blue gerbil guy. All kinds of video games!

News:: Let's get an Animal Crossing RPG in 2018

In two months time, Animal Crossing: New Leaf will celebrate its 5th anniversary as arguably the most successful title in the franchise. It's moved more than 11 million copies, spawned its own spin-off in Happy Home Designer -- a game that itself sold more than three million copies worldwide -- and proved that small town life is at its best when it's on the go. As we patiently wait for the inevitable Switch entry into the series, there's another game I really hope we get out of the franchise: I would love an Animal Crossing RPG.

Nintendo isn't afraid to branch out this franchise. It's made appearances in Mario Kart, Smash Bros and before the year is over it's supposed to have its own smartphone game. And while I'm sure the priority is getting that Switch sequel out the door in 2018, I have been thinking about the possibilities of an Animal Crossing RPG for years. There are 458 Animal Crossing characters, enough to put Suidoken to shame. Imagine forming a party with your character, Jingle, Kiki and K.K. Slider as you adventure from player town to player town saving them from the evils that lurk.

Hell, Nintendo wouldn't even have to stray that far from the Animal Crossing formula. There could still be the standard town element, only every day it is plagued by monsters and once a week players are given a quest to complete with a party made of the town's residents.

The possibilities are as endless as the potential cast. It might be unlikely, but I've been hoping and wishing for a game like this for a long time. A less foolish man would have moved on by now, but prior to my desire for this I was all about getting a role-playing game starring Miis and that dream came true earlier this summer. So I'm going to keep wishin' and hoping' and thinkin' and prayin'.

News:: Walmart exclusive Nintendo Switch Splatoon 2 bundle back in stock

If you're still looking for a Nintendo Switch, your problem is solved this weekend (for a limited time anyways) as Walmart now has their exclusive Nintendo Switch Splatoon 2 bundle back in stock. The supply for the Nintendo Switch has always had a hard time meeting demand since its launch earlier this year in the United States, doubly so if you live in select metropolitan area.

Stock has finally caught up in recent months though as you'll now be able to see Best Buy stocking units in major areas (you can still only purchase in store), while GameStop constantly has new incoming batches where they'll offload in bundled offerings (stuffing in useless toys and gadgets at times).

Here's whats included in this bundle:

Given the Pink and Green Joy-Con only comes in the Splatoon 2 bundle and that the bundle is exclusive to Walmart, if you want this particular Joy-Con setup you're basically locked to buying at Walmart (or waiting for someone to offload their unit on Craigslist/eBay).

In terms of stock availability for this bundle, Walmart has had this available since early Saturday morning - while it didn't sell out within hours like the first time the system was made available on Walmart, we still don't expect this to last through the weekend.

For those looking for savings in this bundle, you will not find any as you're basically paying price for a Switch ($300) plus Splatoon 2 ($60) and the carrying case ($20). But bare in mind that as we approach the holiday season, supply for the Nintendo Switch will most likely take a hit again as demand rise. We don't foresee any major discount on the system this holiday season - though we've certainly been surprised before.

News:: Check out this fan-made 'sequel' to Zombies Ate My Neighbors

Zombies Ate My Neighbors (or "Zombies" as it was retitled here) is one of my top five SNES games. Despite a few odd flaws, I loved it then and now. I get a kick out of its theme, great soundtrack, fun sprites and frantic co-op gameplay. It was a different Konami. A better Konami.

I was always a little disappointed that it never returned in style. Sequel Ghoul Patrol doesn't live up to the original in the slightest, and spiritual successor Monster Madness (remember that?) doesn't cut it. It seems some other fans felt the same way, and went ahead and created their own "sequel" ROM of sorts, using the original game's assets to create a further fifty-four levels of B-movie mayhem.

ZAMN - The Sequel is a love-letter to the 1993 arcade adventure created by a four-man team. All of the original levels have been remapped to form new layouts, some custom stages & sprites (including Killer Tomatoes!) have been added, and some new features included, such as an NPC skull who pops up with hints and tips. Most importantly, you can now scroll through your weaponry in both directions, a baffling oversight on the original game's part.

Ok, it's not strictly a sequel, it's more like a procedurally-generated expansion pack, but it warms my heart to see this title resurrected for one more party, a title that remained dead and buried for too long.
