News::TinyKeep Drops Monday, Here's What You Need To Know

Hardcore Gamer: From the mind of Phi Dinh and his studio Phigames comes the adorable and challenging TinyKeep. Cutesy name and Kingdoms of Amalur-esque graphics aside (with the adorable factor ramped up courtesy of disproportionately large heads on humanoid characters), TinyKeep is actually a tough-as-nails action-RPG.

News::Digital Foundry: Hands-on with Ryse on PC

Eurogamer : "It's been 10 months since the release of Ryse on Xbox One - one of the most fascinating games of the next-gen launch period. Crytek's hack-and-slash title stood proud as one of the most technologically advanced - and utterly beautiful - games of that wonderful, chaotic period. While the technological prowess of the Microsoft console came under repeated fire at launch, Ryse demonstrated that Xbox One was a contender - that it could compete. There was just one problem - for all its technical sophistication, the extremely repetitive gameplay was a severe disappointment. Let's make one thing perfectly clear - anyone expecting the upcoming PC version to address any of the fundamental issues present in the original game is going to be very disappointed. It is, to all intents and purposes, the exact same game, with all the Xbox One DLC bundled. But everyone looking forward to the PC release probably knows this, and most likely doesn't care - the chances are that they wan...

News::Which videogame characters would help you move?

[Dtoid community blogger RedHeadPeak should have called the Muscle March guys. Want to see your own writing appear on the front page? Go write something! --Mr Andy Dixon]

A month ago, I moved into my new home. The house is a big project in itself, with lots of renovation work and plenty of TLC required. Between the DIY and the new school term, I've had very little time to game in the last few weeks. That hasn't stopped me thinking about videogames, though, which is how we've arrived at the vitally important question above.

The home you currently reside in might be your first, or your fifteenth. Regardless, at some point you will have to move. The act of boxing, transporting, and unboxing your entire life will take a considerable amount of time and effort. Whilst the prospect of living somewhere new and shiny is exciting, the act of getting there is not. When this immense event un-folds, you will hopefully have friends and family to assist you, or have hired help.

Whilst those around you will do all they can to haul you and your stuff from A to B -- and you should be grateful to them -- let's ponder how moving would be made easier by employing videogame characters. With all their power and might, skills and tools, could these virtual chaps put themselves to good use in the real world? I for one think they could. This would be a very short discussion otherwise...

Peruse my suggestions below. You'll see I've put a great deal of thought/far too much thought [delete as appropriate] into selecting the persons that I would want helping me and those that I feel would make really bad choices. After reading, I hope you'll have a few suggestions of your own.

News::Pokémon taught me how to read and changed my life forever

[Dtoid community blogger The Emolga Editorial shares a wonderful little story about how gaming changed his life for the better. Want to see your own writing appear on the front page? Go write something! --Mr Andy Dixon]

Do you remember the first time you experienced Pokémon? For me, I didn't even know what I was experiencing.

I couldn't yet read the words on the screen of my new Game Boy Color I had gotten for my sixth birthday. All I knew was that the game I was given was a very appealing yellow color with a cool looking character on the cover and it had a funny looking letter "e" in it. I hadn't even seen the show yet, as I was given the game before the anime became super popular in my little town.

I was so fascinated by the game and all of the things happening in it, but I couldn't understand the words that were on the bottom of the screen. My parents or my brother would sit down with me while I played the game and read what was being said to me for an hour or so a night. I wanted to be able to understand what was going on without any help so badly, so one day I pestered my brother enough until he agreed to explain to me what different words were and how to pronounce them all.

News::Dead Island 2 Vs Dying Light Which Zombie Game Shone Brightest At EGX 2014?

IM PLAYIN discusses the ten minute demos for Dead Island 2 and Dying Light and takes a look at which game is shaping up to be the better open-world zombie title. "Since I got to play both games at this years event, Ive decided to set them off against each other (well, just their ten minute gameplay demos, anyway). Obviously, its not going to be wholly accurate, comparing two games from just ten minutes of game time, as theres a lot of both games that I wouldnt have seen. Still, both gameplay demos were incredibly similar in style. Both had a small objective to complete but, in essence, all they wanted you to do was to explore the world a little and smash the shit out of some zombies. So heres what I thought after ten minutes with each game."

Nicolae Andrei at in2gpu.com wrote: " Although it has a slow start and the puzzles are a bit further between each other than you would like, it is still an entertaining experience. I was always curious to find out what the next puzzle was going to be and was never disappointed. Even if the story is nothing special and the game is only 5 hours long (approximately, of course) I found myself enjoying it the more I played. Be warned though, it starts slow and only provides a 16:9 aspect ratio."

News::WWE 2K15 Hands-On Impressions + Gameplay Trailer I The Koalition

Carl Daniel of The Koalition writes: Much like WWE programming, the quality of wrestling games has been on a decline over the past few years. WWE 12 claimed to be Bigger, Badder and Better, WWE 13 promised a Revolution and the 2K branding in WWE 2K14 implied nothing short of greatness! Unfortunately for wrestling fans, each of those games failed to meet expectation and were disappointments in the gameplay, audio and visual departments. With that in mind youll forgive my skepticism when Yukes vowed to right all of their wrongs with the release of WWE 2K15. But after sitting down with the game earlier this week, I can honestly say Im starting to Bo-lieve.

News::The Grand Journey

Journey was an ostensibly a petite game released by the acclaimed studio ThatGameCompany nearly two years ago. And yet, it has remained with many people as one of the most unique and distinguished games of the modern era. A game in which players oftentimes pick up the controller and, three hours later, are awed reflecting back at what they had just experienced. In fact, Journey was just that: an experience. Many might still classify Journey as a game, and, though it still is at its core, it transcends that classification, primarily evident from the manner in which its story comes across to the player.

News::Alien Make-Out Simulator demands your passion

What do AAA videogame developers do in their off time? If you're Dawn Rivers of Harmonix, you make more videogames. Specifically, you make a videogame for the Oculus Rift where you kiss a multi-mouthed alien until it either enters a world of romantic bliss or rejects you outright for your lacking mouth skills. Obviously.

The current build of the game is available for free right now over on itch. Being the backseat developer that I am, I couldn't help but suggest to Dawn that they add multiple aliens, a How Stella Got Her Grove Back-inspired story about reclaiming your sense of romantic empowerment, and cold sores. Lets hope my awesome ideas make it into the full game someday!
