News:: Surprisingly, TrackMania Turbo's VR mode didn't make me feel ill

Ever since Nadeo announced VR support for its twitchy arcade racer TrackMania Turbo, I've been anxious about how that might work and whether I'd be able to handle it without getting nauseous. The game is full of impossibly large jumps, wall drifting, and coaster-like magnetic tracks, after all. That sounds like a recipe for sickness on paper, and in the wrong hands, it certainly would be.

The free virtual reality update is available today on PC (HTC Vive, Oculus Rift) and PS4 (PlayStation VR). I tested out the latter version, and despite the aforementioned craziness inherent to TrackMania's level design, I didn't feel any discomfort. That's a pleasant surprise, to put it mildly.

News:: Ubisoft gives us a first look at The Division's Survival add-on

It's the middle of New York City, but it certainly doesn't look it. With all that inclement weather and desperation, this is more akin to the Antarctic research station from The Thing. And, staying alive through the night is an equally uncertain prospect.

This is our first look at Survival, the second paid add-on for The Division. The premise is that a snowstorm took the player's helicopter down and now they're tasked with surviving the harsh conditions. However, Survival's adversaries aren't limited to just the environment; there are 23 other agents and a new enemy type that also very real threats.

The snowstorm plot device might seem at home in the winter months, but Survival was originally slated to release a bit earlier. The expansion was scheduled for October, but Ubisoft delayed the add-ons in favor of fixing the core game. After the 1.4 patch rolled out, Ubisoft resumed developing additional content. The release of Survival will be the 1.5 update.

While Ubisoft hasn't given a firm date for Survival, PC players don't have to wait to try it out. There's a new public test server available until November 13 exclusively for season pass owners. Everyone else can stay warm and cozy a little bit longer.

News:: Sony is holding a 10th anniversary PlayStation Network sale

The US PlayStation Store has begun a 10th anniversary sale and, wow, has it really been a decade?

There are some notable deals here covering PS3, PS Vita, and PS4 games, but in particular, I have to give a shout-out to the Bloodborne complete bundle ($24.99) and the Old Hunters expansion ($9.99). Folks have been waiting quite a while for the latter to go on sale. It's not too late to start playing!

I was fairly into The Old Hunters when it came out, and now, having cleared the first DLC for Dark Souls III, I like it even more in retrospect. What an excellent extension of the core game. It's a fierce challenge, even more so when you're up against the unrelenting bosses, but it's one worth seeing through.

Other than that, the sale is mostly just loads of PS1 and PS2 classics.

News:: There will supposedly be a new Metro game next year

Post-apocalyptic survival shooter Metro will seemingly receive a third installment in the series come next year. Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light have been released in recent years, and there looks to be one more game to round out the trilogy.

This is all according to a timeline on a website for the Metro books. Metro was first a series of novels by author Dmitry Glukhovsky before being adapted to video games. Now that the final novel, Metro 2035 has released, the site teases "the next Metro video game" in 2017.

The description for the timeline entry reads "It all adds up to something. Where the books end their story, the game will pick it up. An era of great discoveries lies ahead..."

Another Metro game makes perfect sense for everyone involved. After former publisher THQ auctioned the property off as a part of its bankruptcy proceedings, Deep Silver picked it up and has shown a willingness to invest in it. Deep Silver published both Last Light and the remasters for current consoles. A new video game seems to fit perfectly into those plans.

We reached out to Deep Silver about this issue. Deep Silver declined to comment.

News:: Xbox Insider Program opens its previews to everyone

The Xbox Preview Program has been helpful for gamers who want to see the future of Microsoft's console software before it's finished, but Microsoft thinks it can do better. It's renaming the offering to the Xbox Insider Program, and instituting key changes both to the software as well as availability. For most people, the biggest change is simply who can access the program -- it'll "soon" be open to anyone with an Xbox. Access to system updates is still limited to those already participating, but that won't preclude you from getting sneak peeks for apps and games so long as you meet qualifications (such as your region or tenure in the program).

News:: GTA Online brings the fight to the Game Grid with Tron-like lightcycle battles

The newest update to GTA Online doesn't carry the general vibe most people associate with Grand Theft Auto. This is more futuristic, more surreal, more Tron. Oops!

(Listen, we all know it's Tron but don't call it Tron, alright? We don't want a lawsuit on our hands.)

The star of the free Deadline update is the Nagasaki Shotaro, a sport bike that emits neon-colored trails behind it. Those trails are for more than just mood setting, though; any opposing racers who touch them will crash and burn. It's a concept that might feel cribbed from somewhere else, but it's not. It's 100 percent wholly unique to Grand Theft Auto Online.

The Shotaro is available to use freely in the competitive multiplayer-focused Adversary mode. It seems to carry an in-game price tag of $2 million for anyone who wants to cruise the Los Santos streets on a hyper-futuristic bike. A hyper-futuristic bike that you've never seen before anywhere else if the lawyers come a knockin'.

News:: There won't be a remaster for the original Warcraft

I'm not one for needless remasters of titles that you can still buy. To me, they almost make me feel stupid for investing so much money and faith in a developer. The Uncharted remaster, especially, is just plain better than the originals, no matter how you slice it. That sucks.

Still, some fans of classic games would like Blizzard to tackle a remaster of the first two titles in the Warcraft series, due to Diablo III getting an update with content from the first Diablo. I can respect that, as Warcraft was one of the most important PC games ever made, not to mention the ancestor to the largest MMO around. Blizzard doesn't have plans to do so, however.

Again, that is something I can respect, but the reasoning behind their decision is baffling. At Blizzcon this past weekend, a fan questioned Blizzard co-founder, Frank Pearce, on the possibility of a remaster and he said there were no plans at the time.

News:: Super Mario Maker might have amiibo compatibility after all

When Super Mario Maker for 3DS was revealed, Nintendo was quick to note that it would not contain Mystery Mushroom support. It uh...won't have a full online level browser either. So it'll not have two of the biggest features of the game -- but if you still want it, there's hope that amiibo figures will do something other than provide new Mystery costumes (maybe it's just the "Giant" and "Skinny" mushrooms?).

Listed directly on Nintendo's official amiibo compatibility site in the "upcoming" section is Super Mario Maker 3DS, right alongside of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. We've reached out to Nintendo for more information -- and hopefully they'll provide us with some tidbit of information that justifies a second buy. Because at the moment, I'm hard pressed to come up with any reason why I'd want to go through all the effort of making something if I have to share it locally (plus, the 3DS is jam-packed with good pure Mario platformers).

News:: An hour with 'Meadow,' the most-peaceful MMO ever

Meadow, the latest game from indie developers Might and Delight, has flown under the radar. Like the Shelter games the studio is famous for, Meadow has you controlling a animal, exploring a lo-fi wilderness. Unlike Shelter, Meadow is an MMO.

Starting life in Meadow is confusing. Having read nothing about the game, I dived into the European server. I was suddenly a small badger, in a field, alone. I quickly worked out the controls available to me: walk, run, jump, smell, speak, and emote -- actually many, many emotes.

After five minutes or so of bounding around and chittering to myself, I heard an almost gutteral bleating coming from... somewhere. I called out again with the whiny chitter that only a badger could make. The deep bleat drew closer. I gently made my way down a cliff face toward a pair of antlers in the distance.

News:: Dishonored 2 complete deals roundup for Steam, PS4, and Xbox One

It's one Triple-A after another this Fall as now Dishonored 2 heads to all major platforms later this Friday. Interested gamers should take note that Bethesda's latest title has quite a few strong pre-purchase incentives, including a free digital copy of Dishonored: Definitive Edition.

This is a smart move as it not only makes it easier for new fans to check out the IP, but also gives back to fans of the series who may not have partaken on the post-release DLC (some of which were quite good). As always, we've rounded up some of the best Dishonored 2 deals on the market from Steam copies to console version on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Select retailers are offering additional discounts and bonuses - many of which are noteworthy for gamers wanting to return to the Empire of the Isles.

Dishonored 2 Deals

PC/Steam

Console

Pre-Order Bonus: Free Copy of Dishonored Definitive Edition

As mentioned earlier, all pre-order deals we listed above will include a free digital copy of Dishonored: Definitive Edition as an extra incentive for gamers. In addition to this "$20 value" - you'll also receive the Imperial Assassin's Pack:

  • Duelist's Luck Bone Charm
  • Void Favor Bone Charm (whatever the F this is)
  • Goodbye, Karnaca Lore Book (okay sure)
  • Antique Serkonan Guitar (wonderland)
  • 500 Coins

Finally, PC gamers will also be able to play 1 day early on November 10 if they pre-order a copy (for West Coast peeps, as early as 9pm Pacific on November 9). As of writing, we believe GMG is also sending out codes, so if you purchase a copy - you should receive the Steam key immediately after purchase.

Light on Console Deals

While PC gamers have their picking in terms of discount (up to 20% off at any of the authorized digital retailers above), console gamers have less options in terms of deals for Bethesda's latest.

Xbox One gamers should opt for Microsoft Store which gives you two incentives: pre-order and you'll receive a $10 Microsoft Store gift code. If you do so before November 9 at 10am Pacific, you'll even receive free release day delivery.

PlayStation 4 gamers will have to opt for full price of the game, or partake in Best Buy's current BOGO 40% off promotion (and pick another game while they're at it). It's not an optimal deal, but its the best option online as of writing for a PS4 copy of Dishonored 2.

News:: BioWare: Jade Empire could return at any time

I've talked about how great Jade Empire is before, and all there is left is for you to play it and see for yourself. But once you've done that, that's it. There hasn't been a sequel or spinoff in 11 years since its debut, but according to Mike Laidlaw of BioWare, that might change at some point.

Speaking to Game Informer, Laidlaw noted that "Jade as a sequel is never dead," with BioWare General Manager Aaryn Flynn clarifying, "I think one of the advantages to getting back to it after a long time is not only nostalgia is a very powerful feeling in people, but skipping a generation of hardware is actually really exciting because it feels like it's not an evolution. It's a revolution of what you can do, and I think that's the kind of thing that brings people. What if we were to revolutionize Jade Empire and brought it back in that regard? That's the kind of talk that still happens around the studio."

The developer also confirmed that there was an attempt to create a sequel in the past, but once they figured out what they wanted, the project was shut down to make way for more fantasy and sci-fi settings -- which is how we got Mass Effect and Dragon Age.

News:: Dissidia Final Fantasy: Opera Omnia delayed

Dissidia Final Fantasy: Opera Omnia kind of came out of left field, and is yet another of Square Enix's many spinoffs for their existing properties (this is a spinoff of a fighting game spinoff franchise!). If you aren't aware of it yet it's a mobile JRPG set in the same world as Dissidia for mobile devices, and it hasn't even been confirmed for an international release yet.

That's just as well, as the game was delayed in Japan into 2017 for bug fixing -- one of the greatest reasons to delay a game so it doesn't end up broken in the hands of paying customers (whether it's a premium purchase or investment in microtransactions).

I don't know what to make of this project, as I kind of just want to finish XV before I get any other Final Fantasy fix. The wait has been unbearable!

News:: Pokemon Go is running another limited bonus event

In an attempt to get people up and at 'em, Niantic is rolling out another Pokemon Go event that offers some XP bonuses (again, to the point that they should be normally).

The previously announced daily bonus feature will be applied going forward, which nets you extra XP and Stardust for the first catch and Pokestop of the day. You'll garner even more rewards if you do both of these actions daily for up to a week. If you play every day, you should start accruing more currency steadily.

But if you play from now until November 11, you'll also get more items from stops and experience a higher spawn rate from all creatures -- when mixed with the decreased spawn from Pidgeys in a recent update, you should find more unique 'mons during that period.

Once again though after that time is up, you're back to normal (and depending on where you live, pitiful) spawns. I've walked several miles before an only found two Pidgeys in a non-rural area, and since the tracker doesn't work, I couldn't even locate rarer creatures -- it's beyond frustrating.
