News:: Nutaku is funding an X-rated version of Road Redemption

Road Redemption is a pretty rad game, but I always felt it was missing something. With all the bloody carnage and decapitated cops, how am I supposed to fully tickle the reptilian side of my brain without some boobs? Why can't I play as a guy hanging dong, his glorious rod flapping in the breeze? Soon, my dreams will come true.

Nutaku, the crowdfunding adult game website, is helping developers Pixel Dash Studios and EQ-Games publish an X-rated version of their Road Rash revival. This all came about from a $10 million initiative Nutaku is taking to reach out to smaller studios and make low brow versions of their games. Speaking to PC Gamer, Mark Antoon (President of Nutaku) said, "We approached them, we funded them to create an adult version of it."

The biggest changes will be in the campaign mode of the game. Instead of taking the role of a biker in the apocalypse gunning for a bounty, you'll be attempting to save a rich warlord's sexy daughter from a "powerful kidnapper." In between each mission, you'll be greeted by sultry motion comics that probably play out like a low budget porno. New dialog will be recorded to reflect the changes and there will even be a replay theater so you can rewatch any cutscene without having to struggle through the game.

Whether this will be an update for previous owners or require a new purchase hasn't been clarified, but I love the idea of taking something with a grindhouse appeal and doubling down on the absurdity. I'm not quite sure how motorcycle brawls fit in with sexy time, but the end result should certainly be explosive.

News:: Sonic Runners Adventure is zipping onto mobile devices soon

I'm not sure how I pulled it off, but I've found another mobile game that was seemingly already available! Gameloft has announced that Sonic Runners Adventure will be heading to the Google Play and App Stores soon, but if you've actually been paying attention, you could have already played it on your Android device since June. Fancy that!

This will be the official launch of the app and it will be available without having to buy from the Gameloft website. You'll soon be able to login to your digital store of choice and download it quickly. Perfect for when you're in the bathroom and need to kill time. If you're feeling lucky, you can even sign-up on the official website for a chance to win a Sonic plush and some other goodies.

There still isn't a firm release date, but seeing as how Gameloft posted the trailer nearly a week ago while the official Sonic Twitter is just now informing everyone, I'm guessing we'll get it very soon. Or maybe not, who the hell knows?

News:: Atom goes up and at them in Injustice 2 December 12

We got our first glimpse at Injustice 2's Atom weirdly before Fighter Pack 2 had finished releasing, but this latest gameplay reveal is a full look into his weird tricks.

It's the Ryan Choi version of the radioactive man, which is pretty neat, and integrates Choi's shrinking and growing abilities far better than anyone would have guessed. The shrinking is limited to certain special moves, and the longer duration of it is most likely his trait (or even locked down into gear?).

Either way, Atom will be available to purchase December 12. He's part of Fighter Pack 3, which includes Enchantress and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. If the last two DLC additions are as interesting as Atom is, I'm all in even more than I am already.

News:: Ryan Reynolds cast as Pikachu in Detective Pikachu movie

According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, Ryan Reynolds has been cast as the titular Pikachu in Legendary's upcoming live-action adaptation of Detective Pikachu. Alongside Justice Smith and Kathryn Newton, Ryan Reynolds will reportedly provide a motion-capture performance.

Rob Letterman (Goosebumps) is set to direct, and the current version of the film is "kicked into gear when Smith's character's father is kidnapped, forcing the teen to team up with Pikachu in order to find him. Newton is a sassy journalist who helps them on their quest," as per the report.

Alex Hirsch and Nicole Perlman wrote the latest draft in the script, and Reynolds' next big nerd property, the Deadpool sequel opens next February. I know some folks wanted Danny DeVito in the role, and while that would've been fun in its own way, he wasn't too hot the last time he provided a voice to a children's film.

News:: Sony is discounting PlayStation VR to $200 for the holidays

On the off chance you're considering buying a PlayStation VR bundle or upgrading to PlayStation 4 Pro in the near future, Sony has a round of hardware deals beginning December 10 in the US.

On the VR side, there are three bundles from December 10th through the 24th:

  • PlayStation VR + PS Camera + Gran Turismo Sport ($199.99) (Regularly $299.99)
  • PlayStation VR + PS Camera + DOOM VFR ($299.99) (Regularly $399.99)
  • PlayStation VR + PS Camera + two Move controllers + Skyrim VR ($349.99) (Regularly $449.99)

If the pricing on that GT Sport bundle seems surprisingly low, I agree. And there's a reason for it. That cheaper package has the original PSVR model while the bundles with DOOM VFR and Skyrim VR come with this year's revised PSVR unit that allows HDR pass-through and moves the headphone jack and volume controls directly onto the headset itself. All three bundles pack in the new demo disc.

As for the PlayStation 4 Pro deals, they run from December 10th through December 16th:

  • PS4 Pro 1TB console + DualShock 4 controller ($349.99) (Regularly $399.99)
  • Limited Edition Battlefront II PS4 Pro + matching DualShock 4 + Star Wars Battlefront II: Elite Trooper Deluxe Edition ($399.99) (Regularly $449.99)
  • Glacier White PS4 Pro + matching DualShock 4 + Destiny 2 with expansion pass ($399.99) (Regularly $449.99)

News:: Look out for a Beyond Good and Evil 2 developer stream tomorrow

The Beyond Good and Evil 2 that exists in my head after seeing the CG trailer and some out-there concept art is hazy, yet exciting. I can't say I have a good read on this still-being-defined game and I probably won't anytime soon, but come tomorrow, we'll learn more about the space adventure title.

Ubisoft is holding a Space Monkey Program developer live stream on December 7 at 9:00am Pacific.

You'll be able to catch this first stream on YouTube, Twitch, and Facebook. Personally, I wanna hear more about Knox, that "punk-ass hybrid monkey" with the extendable robo-arm.

News:: Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite holding another free weekend on PS4

Capcom have announced that PlayStation Plus members will be able to try out Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite online later this week, as they are having another free weekend to get people on-board with the comic-book crossover title.

The fighter recently underwent a balance overhaul, as well as receiving some additional content. The free weekend will open up the fighter's launch roster to all players, but only Training Mode and the Online Vs. portions of the game will be available, hence the PlayStation Plus account requirement.

I personally wouldn't have held it the same weekend that they're holding their own, highly-anticipated, Monster Hunter: World beta. That seems incredibly bad planning, especially considering they publish both titles.

The Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite free weekend starts at December 8 at 08:00 PST/12:00 GMT, until the same time on December 11.

News:: A Hat in Time is the second-best hat-based platformer this year

So, let's get this out of the way. A Hat in Time is a wonderful, charming game, and comparing it to Super Mario Odyssey isn't really fair. But since both games are 3D platformers using a hat as the central mechanic, comparisons are inevitable.

I was talking to Jordan about A Hat in Time and admitted I spent the first hour or so reflexively trying to throw my hat at stuff. Once I got past my own hang-ups though, I discovered a delightful platform game that deserves your attention.

News:: Researchers found a way to tuck AR objects behind real ones

Current AR technology does a pretty decent job of placing a virtual image in front of an actual one, but blocking a virtual image with a real object is actually quite difficult and something that available head-mounted augmented reality displays can't do yet. But MIT Technology Review reports that University of Arizona researchers have developed a prototype system that can do just that.

News:: Life is Strange: Before the Storm wraps up December 20

It's nearly time for the third and final episode of Life is Strange: Before the Storm, and for me, that means only one thing: I can start playing the prequel series! I've been holding off until it wrapped up and I haven't even peeked at Brett's reviews of episode one and two. For once, I've actually been patient.

Episode three, Hell is Empty, releases on Wednesday, December 20 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

Developer Deck Nine is also prepping a bonus episode entitled Farewell for Deluxe Edition players. As we recently learned, Hannah Telle and Ashly Burch will reprise their roles as Max and Chloe.

News:: Rise of the Tomb Raider's VR chapter is now available on PC release

The VR-oriented Blood Ties chapter of 2015's Rise of the Tomb Raider has finally been added to the PC port of the game. The announcement was made on Steam by developers Crystal Dynamics.

The VR chapter, which launched on consoles earlier this year, sees the intrepid Lara Croft return to her family mansion. Wandering the dusty, forgotten halls, once the home of the adventuring elite, she will uncover a mystery that has haunted the Croft family for generations. Think Gone Home for the British upper classes.

Blood Ties is compatible with HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. The chapter is available as part of the 20 Year Celebration DLC pack or can be downloaded for free by those who own the 20th Anniversary Edition of the base game.

News:: Long-awaited action-plaftormer Iconoclasts hits PC, PS4, and Vita in January

The long and turbulent wait for Iconoclasts is set to end (relatively) soon and I wasn't sure this day would ever arrive. The eye-catching 2D action-adventure game from Noitu Love creator Konjak is now slated to release on January 23, 2017 for PC, Mac, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation Vita. This is it.

If you haven't been tracking the game over the last several years, know that it's gonna be great.

See what I mean? It's wonderful in that labor-of-love sort of way.

"Konjak made every part of the game all by himself (even the music), and he refused to allow anything but his best work into the final product," our own Jonathan Holmes said of Iconoclasts during his PAX East preview. "It's easily his most beautiful project to date, which is saying a lot, given the quality of his past solo efforts and his many contract jobs for WayForward."

News:: PUBG's desert map Miramar detailed ahead of release

We've seen bits and pieces of the new PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds map in recent months, but this is our best (and hopefully final) look at the desert locale prior to its launch in the live game.

The development team has shared another batch of screenshots, viewable below, and revealed the map's name. Step aside, Erangel, it's Miramar's time to shine.

There are also descriptions of the main points of interest, from the densely-packed city of Los Leones to the oceanside town of Valle del Mar. I'm eager to find out which city will be my new Lipovka.

Los Leones
  • The largest city in the region, Los Leones features ample shopping, a skyline filled with new construction, and a glorious, golden-hued City Center. Players should secure high vantage points by exploring the numerous construction sites, and loot for gear in the cavernous, abandoned commercial buildings.
El Pozo
  • El Pozo is a city known for its large industrial and entertainment districts. Players can test themselves against all comers in the Luchador Arena, put their motorcycle skills to the test In the death bowl, or hunt in the ruins of the long dead textile factories.
Monte Nuevo
  • Monte Nuevo is the picture of a town besieged. Ramshackle walls built to protect its residents now allow players ample cover to explore the well-stocked compound.
Valle del Mar
  • Valle del Mar is a colorful oceanside town bisected by the De Toro bridge. To the West of the bridge is a quaint school, and to the East, a beautiful church. The key to holding this town is bridge control, as it’s the only direct route between mainland and the island.
La Cobreria
  • The shipping and transport capitol of Miramar, La Cobrería’s most prominent feature is it’s enormous Rail Yard. Here, players will hunt and be hunted among the half-buried cargo of a long dead industry. Careful players should loot the schools and campuses that dot this town before attempting to hold the Yard.
San Martin
  • San Martín is located just west of Hacienda Del Patrón. Checkpoints and barriers have transformed this once-quiet small town into a war zone. Both sides of the town have overlooks, so careful players should scout first, before charging into town.
Pecado
  • Once a tourist destination featuring the largest casino in the region, Pecado continues to thrill players to this day with its mix of high-value loot and dangerous sightlines. Aggressive players will immediately loot the Arena and Casino, but savvy players should check out the 4 story hotels between them.
Chumacera
  • Chumacera is the husk of Miramar’s once thriving textile industry. Long abandoned factories overlook a main road lined with residential and commercial buildings. Verticality in both the buildings and terrain make this town an exciting location to loot- high risk, high opportunity!

As for the release timing, the latest word is that "Miramar will be playable during the final test round before PUBG hits version 1.0." I'm ready to dig in. So, so ready.

News:: Steam no longer accepts bitcoin for game purchases

Have you been stockpiling bitcoin to go on a Steam shopping spree? You'll need to change your plans. Valve has stopped accepting bitcoin due to a combination of high transaction costs (up from 20 cents in the beginning to $20) and "volatility" in the cryptocurrency's value. While the virtual cash has never been especially stable, its worth has taken a roller coaster ride over the past few months. Its value has been skyrocketing lately (one bitcoin is worth $13,300 US as of this writing), but it has also crashed hard -- Valve cited a 25 percent drop "over a period of days" as an example. That fluctuation creates a huge problem if you make a purchase and it doesn't complete before the usual bitcoin price guarantee elapses, as you may have to pay an outstanding balance and a second transaction fee.

News:: Teaser trailer reveals WarGames interactive series coming in 2018

Sam Barlow, creator of the award-winning FMV title Her Story, is collaborating with TV producers Eko and MGM to create a new "Interactive series" spiritually based on '80s cold-war movie WarGames.

John Badham's 1983 classic saw Matthew Broderick as a young hacker David Lightman, who unwittingly invites global nuclear war whilst dicking around with a government supercomputer. The new series, #WarGames, will feature a group of hackers whose actions similarly embroil them in a government conspiracy. Although there are no details on how the "interactive" elements of the series will work, viewers will guide the actions of one of the hackers, Kelly.

In a press release, Sam Barlow said how excited he is to update the classic conspiracy thriller. "With #WarGames I was thrilled to take the questions raised by the original movie and ask them again in a world where technology has fundamentally changed our lives," said Barlow. "To do that interactively felt like a perfect marriage of form and content."

#WarGames will debut in Spring 2018. In the meantime, how about a nice game of chess?

News:: Now you can get into a fist fight on the streets while playing Streets of Rage

The latest addition to Sega Forever, Sega's growing collection of free-to-play mobile re-releases, is the classic brawler Streets of Rage. One of the best features of the game was its simultaneous co-op, which was a rarity back in the day. While there won't be same device multiplayer, this new port does feature cross-platform play between Android and iOS devices, so you'll be able to duke it out with your buds regardless of your affiliation.

You can nab the game on the Google Play and App stores for the low price of free with some light ad support. Along with that cross-platform play, all Sega Forever games boast Bluetooth controller support, online leaderboards and cloud save capabilities. You can also pay $1.99 to remove any ads from the title, should they become too annoying.

News:: Tweet suggests January release for Darkest Dungeon on Switch

For all of you masochists willing to once again traverse the sadistic Darkest Dungeon, only this time in Switch form, recent news suggests you might not have too much longer to wait.

Replying to a fan on their official Twitter, developers Red Hook Studios, have opined that the strategic adventure title could be coming to the Nintendo console "mid-Jan". The game would lend itself well to the hybrid format and would be equally as playable, and as frustrating ("Missed" my ass), on either screen afforded by the Switch.

The team are currently hard at work on finishing up a certification build of the title, which then has to go through Nintendo's verification process, before eventually reaching the eShop. Red Hook had been hoping to get Darkest Dungeon out on the Switch before the end of 2016, but it looks like eager adventurers will have to wait just a little longer.

Red Hook are also plugging away at new DLC for the title. The Color of Madness will see our team of brave heroes sally forth against a strange intergalactic threat, bringing with it new quests, new enemies and new trinkets. The Color of Madness is currently scheduled for a Spring 2018 release. More info on this content can be found right here.

News:: Free Armored Core PS4 dynamic theme is out now in Japan

A few days back, From Software took to Twitter to announce that the Armored Core series will continue and essentially told everyone to be patient in regards to a new game. However, they then followed up with another tweet announcing that a 20th anniversary dynamic theme would be released in the coming days.

That day is now! However, you will need a Japanese PSN account to access the theme (Google is your friend on that one), which you can find here. So, whist I'm now reminded daily of Armored Core's existence, here's hoping that the wait for a new entry in the series isn't too long -- hell I'd even take a Verdict Day port at this point.

News:: We got our hands on the Mario amiibo cereal, here's what it does

Oh hey, Nintendo sent over the fabled Mario cereal box amiibo (and a wooden spoon/red bowl), filled with gelatin-riddled mushrooms and crunchies.

Wait, a cereal and an amiibo? Yeah, it's a two-in-one type of deal, with a tiny interaction with Super Mario Odyssey on Switch. How tiny? Well I'll let you watch the below video of me earning two coins from it to judge (a heart is also possible).

As for the box itself it's fairly standard, but on the very back corner you'll find a "scan me" section that's unique to this brand of cereal. You just have to hold the NFC chip up to the scanner (which is a little annoying on the Pro Controller since it doesn't have a raised area to scan it on) after pressing down on the right d-pad button, and you're good to go. The actual chip is found on the inside of the box, not anywhere on the cereal packaging.

News:: The existence of Assassin's Creed Rogue HD seems more likely after being rated in Korea

Assassin’s Creed Rogue is a missing link of sorts with the series proper. It's considered a mainline game, but it was only ever released on consoles for the PS3 and Xbox 360 at the end of their lifespans. Because of that timing, a lot of people didn't get to play it, or barely even heard of it after it launched -- that likely will change after the open secret HD version hits.

After multiple Italian retailers listed the game, now the Korean Game Rating Board is at it. We even have a release date and platforms at this point, with Rogue HD set to debut on March 15, 2018 on both PS4 and Xbox One. As a reminder this one is basically just a worse version of IV, holding onto many of the same gameplay elements and the well-loved ship faring aspect.

I think it's worth playing in spite of its flaws, and maybe you'll have the chance to check it out for yourself next year.

News:: The new ‘Portal’ game is a ‘Bridge Constructor’ spin-off

Fans have been waiting with little hope for a third entry in the beloved Portal franchise since the second game came out in 2011. It seems Valve has answered their prayers -- kind of. News:: The best VR headsets

It's crazy to think how far VR has come over the past few years. While the technology made its big consumer debut in 2016, with the launch of the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and PlayStation VR, we also spent plenty of time anticipating their arrival. It promised to be the biggest technological shift since the rise of smartphones -- and potentially since the dawn of the internet.

This year, VR headsets got cheaper, simpler (especially with Microsoft's new Mixed Reality platform) and more worthwhile, thanks to the launch of new immersive titles like Rez Infinite. We've gone from having too few VR options to too many. These are the best.

News:: Capcom submit Okami's Amaterasu as a potential DOTA 2 courier

Anyone checking out the Steam Workshop for global smash DOTA 2 may be surprised to see a familiar spiritual canine making an appearance in the battle-arena title.

Capcom have officially submitted a courier design to the free-to-play title, none other than the lovable Amaterasu, star of cult PS2 title Okami. A hero of Japanese folklore, Amaterasu is a sun goddess who takes the form of a beautiful white wolf in order to save the world from a gathering darkness.

This isn't the first time Amaterasu has appeared in another title, in the past she surprised many fans with an appearance in crossover fighter Marvel vs Capcom 3. In her role as a  DOTA 2 courier, Ammy would collect items and skills requested from the store and bring them to the team in the thick of battle.

Yes, you'd essentially be using a sun goddess to play "fetch".

Amaterasu is viewable now on the DOTA 2 workshop, where she can be "faved" and added to your collection. You can also vote for her to receive official support from Valve.

News:: Fighting EX Layer teaser features the return of Blair

Arika have released a new character teaser for their upcoming one-on-one punch-up Fighting EX Layer. The incredibly short and moody trailer showcases the return of high-class bone-breaker Blair Dame.

Blair originally featured in Street Fighter EX, where she was of European, then specifically British origin, but this was eventually segued into Blair being from Monaco. Blair comes from a very wealthy background, as part of the "Worldwide Young Ladies Club", a fictional group in the universe which roughly translates to "Rich girls who like punching".

Blair is an up-close and personal fighter, getting in deep with hard boxing strikes and combination kicks. Of course whether her canonical past or fighting style will remain unchanged in Fighting EX Layer remains to be seen. But she was one of my favourite Street Fighter EX characters, so I'm looking forward to picking her up again.

At least they've redesigned those awful stripper boots.
