News:: Sega adds 'OutRun' and other classic soundtracks to Spotify

If you need a distraction from the stress of our new Orwellian order, why not take a trip back to a simpler time with Sega? It just released nearly 20 classic soundtracks from the '80s and '90s onto streaming site Spotify, including OutRun, Virtua Fighter, Fantasy Zone and NiGHTS. OutRun is probably the standout, as many of us wasted a good chunk of our youth (and quarters) racing in the multiplayer arcade version.

News:: Weekend deals: Resident Evil 7, For Honor, and sales event galore

It's PC gamer sales weekend as multiple retailers are discounting over a thousand games for Lunar New Year. You'll find Grand Theft Auto V for $24 (Rockstar Social key, mind you); BioShock: The Collection for $16, and Mortal Kombat XL for only $9.

In the new title department, Resident Evil 7 is still 33% off if you pick up a copy at GamesPlanet which brings the global Steam key to only about $40. This weekend For Honor is running another beta and if the dedicated server issue (lack of one) doesn't phase you, the best PC pre-order deal is 20% off at GMG (which also includes the pre-order bonus). If you're looking for cheap titles, the under $5 bargain section includes over 48 titles - all of them very decent and worth a look.

For our console pals, GameStop is running a clearance sale with collectibles, apparels, and of course games on sale. You can also find at eBay deals a physical 12-month PS Plus card on sale currently 15% off at $50.99 (this is the newer $59.99 membership).

Finally, Google's VR headset Daydream view is still on sale for $49.99 at Verizon Wireless' online store. Color option includes the Slate, White, and Red models.

News:: Destructoid community interviews: NathanD

[This week's interview for the front page is for NathanD, who we can simply refer to as the resident Nier Automata and 2B enthusiast. Another regular on Qtoid over in the community section of our website. ~Strider]

Hey Destructoid, Welcome back to Community Interviews. I've finished hanging the ball-gags on the tree and I'm ready for the festive period. A time of togetherness and goodwill, I will be sitting on my own, watching Angela Mao movies. Before the holiday chaos commences I have another kewl Interview for y'all. News:: Review: Dandy Dungeon: Legend of Brave Yamada

Developer Yoshiro Kimura has a brain that, I believe, runs perpendicular to everyone else in the games industry. When creating his own games, you get oddities not only in design but in character and world building. Sometimes his genius shines through, like with Little King’s Story. Other times people just don’t get it, like with Chulip. But whether he succeeds or fails, I’ve found his games stay true to who he is.

Unfortunately, who he is is someone who makes games that don’t really sell. Few people bought Little King’s Story and even fewer picked up Chulip. So it’s no surprise that he’s brought his talents to the mobile market, where you don’t have to sell hundreds of thousands of copies of a game to find success. He’s also brought his charm, his wit, his humor, and his excellent game ideas, resulting in what is flat out the best mobile game I’ve played.

News:: The sartorial gamer: my favorite outfits from recent games

[Boy howdy, the outfits the heroines of recently released games wear are not only cool and elegant but surprisingly doable in real life. It was cool to scroll down this cblog to see video game characters in their default models, then real-life people wearing similar clothing. ~Strider]

The title "sartorial gamer" is perhaps not accurate in many ways. I'm not a huge buyer of designer clothing, rarely wander into second-hand vintage clothing shops, and I sometimes even walk out of the house with my jumper on back to front. Unfortunately, when on a limited budget, I would rather drop coin on my favorite broccoli pizza or some sweet gadgetry than pieces of cloth that will inevitably fade in the wash within a few weeks.

News:: What classic Nintendo game would you like to see revived on the Switch?

We're a little more than a month off from the launch of the next Nintendo console. Given the last few years of great games but tepid sales with the Wii U, part of me thinks the success of this little device will make or break Nintendo as we know it. Many big 3rd party developers are pulling a bullshit wait-and-see approach, but in their absence, I think Nintendo is doing everything it can to make this a success, outside of selling it for $199. In its first year, the Switch will have Zelda, Mario, Mario Kart, Splatoon, Xenoblade; all of which are franchises with passionate followings. Beyond 2017, who the hell knows what's in store for us.

Of course, every time Nintendo launches a new device, I can't help but think about the classic games I'd like to see make a grand return. On the 3DS, we finally got a new Kid Icarus and, while the control set-up was debatable, I loved Pit's triumphant return. On the Wii, we saw the return of the excellent Punch Out!! franchise.

Will we see another beloved series return on the Switch? Who the hell knows, but I wanted to know what the Destructoid staff thought, so I asked them to name a classic game they'd love to play a new entry in with the two stipulations: the franchise can't have had a new entry in the last 10 years and it had to be exclusive to Nintendo systems.
