News::Doctor Who Reveals The Only Thing Really Worth Stealing

Doctor Who Reveals The Only Thing Really Worth Stealing

Thus far, the loose theme of this season of Doctor Who seems to be "identity crises" and "deconstructing heroism." These themes manifest this week in another story where the Doctor isn't entirely calling the shots, and the main McGuffin that everybody is trying to steal is "selfhood." Spoilers ahead...

News::Space Engineers: Star Wars Trench Run, Millennium Falcon Mods Added

One Angry Gamer "Theres some sexy new mods made available for Space Engineers. I know, I know, this is still good news that doesnt touch on the scabby dragonsaur known as #GamerGate, but I would suggest you soak up this clean bit of gaming culture because theres plenty of time to dive back into the cesspool of corruption and collusion that encapsulates the games journalism ring. For now, you can take refuge in this bit of news that celebrates the creative minds that inhabit Steams Workshop for Keen Software Houses open-space simulator."

News::Consortium (SteamFirst Review)-Anagram For Cumin Torso. Buy It

SteamFirst: Were I to find myself tied up, blindfolded, and had my feet to the fire (and this was not voluntary special time with the wife), I would say that my favorite feature that could be added to a game would be the ability to dynamically affect how a story plays out. I would also question the extremes my captors underwent to gather such basic information, but that is immaterial to the point. The recent Telltale games based on The Walking Dead and Fables are particular stand outs for this, but Interdimensional Games Consortium has really raised the bar.

News::Star Conflict Review - Mouse n Joypad

Rahman writes - "In my last article (BOMB), I stated that there were very few flying games that focused on the WW2 era of fighting. While this remains true, I also think that there are few that cast their sights into the far future, either. Oh sure, plenty have tried to throw their hats into the ring, before getting overshadowed by the behemoth that is EVE Online. Well, now I think weve found a potential David for this Goliath Star Conflict."

Gamers reciprocated this coverage with a lot of letters and interest, and later sales upon release."

News::Game Under Episode 55

In Episode 55 of the Game Under podcast, it's time for another Big Show. Tom Towers, afraid that there isn't enough content for a big show, proposes that in lieu of a Big Show Game Under should produce the longest trademark banter ever. Phil Fogg agrees, and the result is a Big Show's worth of chaos, featuring everything from the jazz piano stylings of Halo 3: O.D.S.T. to Barack Obama's cameo in Advent Rising straight back to the motorcycle diaries of Halo Reach. And in a world first, Murdered: Soul Suspect is reviewed mid-Trademark banter. And Mario Kart 8 is compared to huffing paint. In a good way. Plus, what makes a good third person shooter? Hint: colour scheme is vitally important.

News::For Indie Games, the Struggle Continues after Release

Gaming Illustrated: "'Indie' has recently been added to the unwritten list of the rudest words in video games, as the term usually refers to a low budget title with the sort of graphics that even a mid-1990s PC could run. The term is synonymous with audio that probably doesnt involve the London Philharmonic Orchestra (and those guys will play just about anything for cash) or composer John Williams. What you will find, though, is a central quirky game mechanic, which plays with the tropes of the genre. The artwork is usually low-fi, or even deliberately evocative of early Amiga era pixel-art. It seems unnecessary to point out, but this may be because the small team of barely paid enthusiasts who made the game are not backed by a studio with tons of cash."
