News::Indie Studio Vents: "Gamers Aren't Very Nice People"
British indie studio Puppy Games, who are going through a bit of a rough patch at the moment, have posted a long and heartfelt essay/rant on their site about the people who buy (or don't buy) their video games. Don't let its aggressive leads fool you. It's a very good read.

News::Double Fine picks up goofy multiplayer brawler Gang Beasts
Gang Beasts is hardly new at this point, but we've been given another opportunity to talk about it now that it's a part of the Double Fine Presents line. I'll take it.
The funny multiplayer brawler will be playable later this month at Double Fine's PAX Prime booth (#117) and there's also a fresh alpha build lined up for Steam Early Access on August 29.
This is one of those games that looks like it'll be immensely fun up until the point at which you've had enough, not that there's anything wrong with that if you come in with the right expectations. Still, developer Boneloaf (haha) has much more planned than is shown in this bare-bones video so by the time Gang Beasts is "finished," that should change for the better.
One of my all-time favorite things to do in multiplayer games is to take another player down with me (see: New Super Mario Bros. Wii) and that's an option here. So good.

News::Sega and Sony once again duke it out for supremacy with these Transformers
Toymaker Takara Tomy has produced Transformers based on the rivalry between the Genesis and the PlayStation during the early part of the fifth generation of consoles.
The PlayStation is represented by Optimus Prime, while the Genesis transforms into Megatron. Both figures were on display earlier this month at the Summer Hobby Maker Joint Products Exhibition in Akihabara, Tokyo, Japan.
I personally think they missed out by not making 32x and Sega CD Transformers as well in a unique spin on Devastator.
Both figures will be released this fall in Japan for around $100 each.

News::Here's your first look at Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain's multiplayer
This off-screen footage from gamescom shows off your first real look at the multiplayer porting of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.
Mother Base will be customizable, and you can manage your resources how you'd like -- if you want to spend GMP on researching new technology or expanding your defenses, that's your prerogative.
So far we've only heard about said customization, but now you can see it in action in the video above. Perhaps one of the coolest aspects of this part of the game is that, as a result of what you've collected and chosen to upgrade or spend time on throughout the game, your own Mother Base will look different from other players', making it one of the aspects you'll want to spend some time on and eventually show off. Especially since you can infiltrate each other's personalized hubs. Infiltrate them so hard.
Man, I can't wait for The Phantom Pain. I'm gonna be all up in yo bases.

News::Tetropolis, the world's first 'Tetroidvania' launches on Kickstarter
In a world obsessed with perfection, one misshapen Tetromino will team with an orphaned block to start the revolution. This is the concept for Tetropolis by NextGen Pants, a first in the new side-scrolling genre of "Tetroidvania." But you don't have to take my word for it. Check out the Kickstarter page.
Players will explore and progress through the world of Tetropolis by changing their shapes and the shape of the world itself. Each shape the player can utilize has a unique ability that will help them to defeat enemies, jump high, and more. Also, using "control points" scattered throughout the levels the player will be able to rearrange the world itself to open up secret passages and ways to the next levels.
The demo of the game that was shown at PAX East this year is currently available for download and the team is readying a new demo to show the current state of the game. They hope to have the game released by July 2015. Check it out on Steam Greenlight if you're interested.

News::Check out what's basically a gravure-lite promo for the top-voted Yakuza hostesses
Not long ago, Sega put out a call for potential hostesses for the next Yakuza game, and this video details the finalists. With the reveal of the latest Yakuza iteration via NicoNico next Sunday, the top-ranking girl will be announced as well. Until then, study on which one you think came out on top. Came. On top. Those were the words you were looking for, right?
Personally, I like Ayaka Tomoda thanks to her alluring voice. Practically everything about her mannerisms screams sexy. But then you've got Marina Shiraishi's winning smile. Seriously, it's adorable. Also, did you notice they all have the exact same hairstyle, pretty much? The straight bang/swept to the side look must have been in for years now.
Keep it locked to Dtoid, of course, where we'll be talking about the latest Yakuza soon, and how we still haven't seen a localization for Yakuza 5. Same old song and dance.

News::There's plenty of death in this hour-long The Evil Within video
Based on this hour-long play session of The Evil Within, I'm not expecting to be particularly scared by the game, but I am expecting to die quite a few times. Given its limited checkpoints, the fear of failure and having to replay sections should keep the tension up, though.
That's Bethesda vice president of PR and marketing Pete Hines behind the controller. He seemed to take a lot of his frustration out with those stealth head-stabs. They do look satisfying.

News::I love my little boy girl horse on 3DS
I Love My Little Boy/Girl (you can buy either or, "Boy/Girl" isn't the name) and I Love My Horse are two Neopica-developed titles releasing in Europe for 3DS. Real talk, they look like the kind of games I used to play and review when I first started out as a writer. I didn't even get paid for it. My payment was just knowing my review might just save someone from buying the shovelware encased within the hard plastic case I received for review. And that was just what I had to do back in the day.
You do all the typical baby game junk you do in any other baby game, like changing diapers and other boring tasks that someone out there probably finds entertaining, and in the horse game you do horse stuff, I guess, like jumping over fences and feeding your horse carrots.
Also, I Love My Little Girl sounds like something you might hear from someone who participates in a D/s relationship where you call your boyfriend "daddy." Not that I know that anything about that or whatever.
You can basically be a parent in I Love My Little Boy/Girl and train a horse in I Love My Horse. They're coming out October 10 in Europe. Uh, I guess that's about it.

News::New Star Citizen teaser commercial centers on Constellation
The latest in the series of faux commercials for Star Citizen released by Roberts Space Industries focuses on the Constellation multi-purpose corvette, specifically the Aquila variant. The Constellation Aquila will be focused on exploration and surveying as evidenced by the trailer.
I for one cannot wait for this game. I truly hope that Star Citizen, Elite: Dangerous, and No Man's Sky can help revive what to this point is an unfortunately dead genre. Until then, I suppose I'll just spend my time with Mark Hamill on the TCS Tiger's Claw.

News::A Sacred 3 developer apologizes for the game
Sacred 3 wasn't a very well received game; I felt it was an average and uninspired hack-'n'-slash game with some terrible attempts at humor. Comments on my review either sided on "hey, it's not too bad in co-op," to "this is a stain on the franchise." Well, at least one of the staff on Sacred 3 agrees with the latter sentiment and has written an apology on the Steam community page.
Junior designer Sascha Wagentrotz says he feels sorry for the fans "that didn't get the game that they wanted to have." While he doesn't specifically address any problems or any demands from the game's publisher that may have led to Sacred 3's issues, he does cite the developer/publisher push-and-pull relationship as a big factor.
"All I can say is, that you should not overestimate the power of a developer in a 'work for hire' constellation with a big publisher," he wrote. Wagentrotz is no longer at Keen Games but it still takes some heart to publicly put yourself out there and say "We didn't deliver." I'd be interested in hearing some info a few months down the line as to why Sacred 3 went from being a fan favorite to an almost pariah.
