News::Whispers in The Dark Ep. 51: Keith David Won't Sleep With Me

Rely on Horror: On the latest episode of the Whispers in the Dark podcast, the crew gets back together to talk about a whole bunch of things that have happened since our live episode. Kyle gives us the rundown of his PAX Prime experience, Whitney and I hook ourselves up to a dialysis machine, Zev becomes Microsoft's new CEO, and Rourke battles for more penises in media. And last but not least, too much talk about all of these damn video games that have come out!

News::Malebolgia is a Ni No Nightmare

Rely on Horror: Ah, Steam Greenlight--a pool of excellent indie ideas and potential. Today's pickings, as always, comes from the horror genre. Taking place in the 19th century (and hell) Malebolgia caught my eye instantly due to its neat graphic style not seen too often in horror games. Malebolgia puts players into the armor of a fallen General as he works his way through a randomly generated demon fortress.

News::Total War: Rome II Review - PCGMedia

There is a huge amount wrong with Rome II, and although it's easy to get caught up in the hype, as a strategy game it's pretty weak, and does little to innovate on the franchise. It falls into the same traps, and got delivered to us far too early, when it was in need of further TLC.

News::Total War: Rome II Review [Capsule Computers]

Editor Joe Morgan writes, "The Total War franchise has been delivering solid historical strategy games since the original Shogun: Total War was released back in 2000. Epic historical campaigns have been fought from feudal Japan to the Medieval period to the times of the Industrial Revolution and Napoleons Battle of Waterloo. One of, if not the, most popular games in the franchise gave players control of Rome, the nation that formed the cornerstone of how society operates today. With several games in the franchise getting sequels, fans have been clamoring for a return to Italy. How does the newest entry in the Total War franchise stand up? Is it a victory for the Empire or a dark stain on the name? Lets find out."

News::The Left 4 Dead Effect, pt 2

A little over a year ago, I wrote an article titled The Left 4 Dead Effect. It explored the awesomeness of the Left 4 Dead franchise and why it resonated so well with gamers. In an industry of true-to-life (or attempting to be) graphics, massively online multiplayer and soul-crushing plots, what makes a quirky game like Left 4 Dead so appealing? Even though it has hardly any of those features? I couldnt quite pin it down before, so I just left it at the unexplainable Left 4 Dead Effect.

News::Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn diary review Week 1 | PCGMedia

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is a game baptised by fire. After the extremely poor reception to Final Fantasy XIV in 2010, Square Enix made the brave, and risky, decision to demolish the original game and build it from the ground up. Three years later and A Realm Reborn is finally here, attempting to right the wrongs of its predecessor. Because of the sheer scale and variety of MMOs, its almost impossible to provide an informed, in-depth opinion of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn within a week of playing. Therefore, instead of a traditional review, PCGMedia will be posting a regular diary review each Sunday for the next few weeks. Each entry will explore what works, what doesn't, and whether the game is a worthy entry into the MMO genre.

News::Two Dark Souls II Trailers That Have Nothing to Do With the Gameplay

Dark Souls fans are a little apprehensive about the upcoming sequel. News::Lost Planet 3 review | Cheatmasters

By: avoiderdragon Lost Planet: Extreme Condition was one of the first games released by a Japanese company in the late 2000s that seemed to attempt solely at connect with western audiences. That could be wrong, but there have been plenty of titles later on released by Japanese companies since then, many of which are well-received games in their own right. The Lost Planet franchise is now on its third installment, and its no longer made internally by Capcom. The result of that collaboration is rather underwhelming, to say the least.

News::Molyneux On Religion, Godus Crazy Single-Player

Rock, Paper, Shotgun: "Peter Molyneux is up to his old tricks again, for better or worse. Hes gone gaga for Godus, and he wants the world to hear all about it. And who knows? Maybe this time finally, after years of squandering his legendary status on unfulfilled promises and mediocre games hes onto something. Godus certainly sounds fascinating, with Molyneux describing it as a massively polytheistic EVE-Online-inspired social experiment that seems destined for player-driven chaos. But there are still far too many question marks, with the Curiosity-born god of gods and an offline single-player story being the biggest. So I took my promise-weary, cynical heart to Molyneux, and heres how he replied."

News::My Favourite Gaming Musical Moments

MasonicGamer: With the leak of GTA Vs soundtrack the other week it got me thinking about the importance of music in video games. Not just the sweeping orchestral scores, the tactical dubstep that seems to be everywhere or even the carefully chosen tunes for so many radio stations but a mix of them all together. Music can make or break a game and a really good choice of song can make a real lasting impression on a gamer. Here are some of my favourite musical moments from gaming.

News::Castlevania: Lords of Shadow Ultimate Edition review - PCGMedia

As PCGMedia may have mentioned in our other reviews, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is one of our favorite games of all time but to be honest, as many of other fans may have done, we did not expect much from a Castlevania reboot developed by an obscure Spanish indie developer (Mercury Steam) despite the support they received from Konami and Kojima themselves. Lords of Shadow definitely does not deserve to be a Castlevania title due to its complete and utter deviation from the franchises traditional formula and mechanics. Why did we rate it so high then? Let me explain.

News::Weekly Digital: Breath of Fire II, I choose you

"Nothing else in the digital realm of games matters this week, because the greatest SNES RPG of all time has made its way onto the Wii U Virtual Console. Yes, I am of course talking about Breath of Fire II, a game very near and dear to my heart. If you can forgive the early 90s-era translation and the frequent random encounters, youll find a game with a surprisingly dark story, ripe with religious overtones (before Final Fantasy Tactics and Xenogears made it cliché), unique and personable characters and a neat town-building sidequest. Also, protagonist Ryu can morph into a freaking dragon. That alone should be worth the $7.99 price tag (or $1.50 if you own it on Wii). Now, if you dont have a Wii U, the Church of St. Eva will forgive your transgression if you look into some of the other cool releases of the week, most notably the return of psychological horror, point-and-click adventure game I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream on GOG.com.
