News::Screencheat SteamFirst Review

SteamFirst: Screencheat builds upon the major premise of gaming in the days of Golden Eye and Halo: when your arch nemesis sat mere feet from you and had a view of your precious screen. Often times, the winner is determined by knowing where the enemy is, and screen looking or screen cheating was the most infamously-abused form of cheating there was, long before the kids these days with their modded controllers and 360 no-scopes Screencheat puts up to four players in a colorful world, gives them odd assortments of weapons, and pits them against each otherbut with two major twists: (1) Everyones screen is combined in split-screen formation, so you all see each others view. (2) Everyone is invisible. Using another players screen to determine where he or she is, is the only method you have of acquiring the location of your target(s) except for some of the weapons giveaways.

The iLL Panel is a series where the iLL Gaming staff pick their brains over topics related to the game industry. In this panel we discuss whether Next Gen on Consoles has really achieved all that it was promised to be and what does the PC gaming audience think of it. Taking Part in this Panel are Tathagata, Sahil, Anikait, Ajay and Chirantan.

News::Does The Pre-Order Need To Die?

Pixel Gate UK writes: ''2014 was a pretty rough year for video games. Culture wars, shady business practices , a whole host of delays. The year felt like a true transitional period. In terms of the quality of games, 2014 was fair, and quite diverse. 2014 was also the year of broken games, so broken that the consumer started express frustration. If theres one thing 2014 proved, at least to me anyway, it was that pre-orders need to die.'

News::Revenge of the License - Abyss Incident at Europa

Michael Crisman writes, "The Abyss is the one film from James Camerons past everybody forgets about until someone else brings it up, and to be honest I like it fine that way. Its one of my favorites, but at the same time I cant say I watch it more than once every few years, mainly because the special edition is three hours long. The story still holds up today, and the visual effects are awesome for a 1989 production. That said, youd assume a video game tie-in for a film like this would have shown up the same year, or maybe 1990 at the latest. But no, if you wanted to know what happened after the credits rolled you were in for a decade-long wait. Sound Source Interactive released The Abyss: Incident At Europa on the PC in October of 1998. And its definitely, uh, a game."

News::Why 'make your own game' is a bad argument against criticism

The year 2015 has begun. It is a time for new beginnings. New games are coming out. New experiences will be shared. And yet, the same old Internet arguments will take place.

Let's put one to rest right now. There has been growing criticism in the past few years about certain aspects of the videogame industry. Maybe female characters are presented in ways that reinforce negative stereotypes. Maybe the representation of minority groups could be improved. Maybe there is room for videogames to have greater purpose than just fun. Whichever specific issue, the statement "I wish videogames were more _____" is often met with "If you want things to change, you should make your own game."

On the surface, it seems like a reasonable point. "Be the change you wish to see in the world" is cute little buttoned up (mis)quote. With closer examination the argument has little value past being a clever-sounding misdirect.
