News::Heartwood: The Walk Takes You

From the article, "Heartwood is more art piece than proper game, a singular experience that happens to employ a few of the mediums conventions to get its point acrossthough it doesnt really have a point, per se. Heartwoods only point is conveying feelings: wonder, curiosity, fear, loneliness, anticipation. Its a fascinating example of what happens when a developer uses just a few ideas, committing to them utterly."

News::XBlaze Code: Embryo is the BlazBlue game you didn't know you wanted

Can't get enough BlazBlue? Check out XBlaze Code: Embryo , something completely different. Arc System Works' visual novel follows Touya Kagari as he finds himself entangled within a network of secretive organizations and a gaggle of strangers he's finding are his mortal enemies. In short, it's a game I would enjoy. And I bet Kyle would, too.

The game utilizes the original Japanese-language dub, as well as the "TOi System of Fate Determination" system, which allows players to learn more about their surroundings in order to aid Touya in making more informed decisions. I haven't played the game yet, but it sounds like it could be an interesting mechanic.

It's available now on PlayStation 3 and Vita, so if you're interested you can grab it for either system. That Vita, though. Continuing to be a mecca for all things VN and niche-related. I can't complain. I'm loving it.

Oh, and there's another game out now as well: BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma , available for Vita so you can play the visual novel as a companion to the excellent fighter. Perhaps you've heard of it.

News::What is there to do in Watch Dog's Free Roam Mode?

If you bought the PS4, Xbox One or PC version of Watch Dogs then you may be aware that it has an online Free Roam mode which supports up to 8 players at a time. Of course youre probably used to Free Roam in games like Red Dead Redemption and GTA V but in both of those games there are a host of activities for players to engage in, from gang hideouts to robbing stores or putting bounties on players. Watch Dogs on the other hand just throws players into virtual Chicago with no indication of anything to do, it resembles GTA IVs Free Roam mode except GTA IV had an airport and choppers which resulted in fun, whereas players in Watch Dogs just kind of wander around holding their dicks in their hands. So, whats the point of it? Four Takuchat.com members teamed up to find out.

"Ascendant, from Hapa Games, is a 2D Roguelike Brawler that will punish you for the slightest mistake. I like difficult games, but this is more of a frustration with the game rather than an ineptitude on my part. A lot of the time youll be over run by a horde or come face to face with a far greater powered God. Will this leave me emotionally bruised, or will it spur me on to fight harder?" says Calmdowntom

News::Is Microsoft Kidding Itself?

CCC Says: "While some might call this a comeback, others suggest it never left. This outlet (as well as many others across the ole interwebs) reported months back that Microsoft had officially had enough of supporting its fledgling Games for Windows service, who subsequently pulled the plug after years of only moderate success. In its wake, Steam has continued its rise as THE dominate name on PC (bringing several former Windows Live properties into the fold in the aftermath). While this was no big loss to most PC gamers (as the service was far from exemplarily) it did mark the end of Microsofts presence in the desktop gaming market to some degree. However, it appears that old line about their demise being greatly exaggerated would be quite apropos in this case."
