News::Switching face plates on the New 3DS looks easy enough

Feels like the New 3DS was only just announced the other week, but it's already available in Japan. Nintendo has been busy uploading videos like this one which details how to swap out the system's face plates. Interestingly, the stylus can be used to pry them open. Neat design!

There are also a ton of videos showing the various 3DS themes.

"Sprawling hills, green pastures, flowing rivers, lots of demons The Hinterlands of Ferelden are a lovely place. Not that other regions of Thedas are better off. Rifts that link the physical world to the demonic Fade have appeared across the land, allowing hideous monsters to pour through and terrorize as they please. To make matters worse, mages and templars cut each other down at every turn, leaving plenty of collateral damage in their wake. Now, as the leader of the newly-formed Inquisition, its up to you and your band of heroes to strengthen your cause through politics and battle and put an end to all the chaos. Youll need a sharp tongue and a sharper blade if youre to succeed thankfully, Dragon Age: Inquisition, a massive RPG by the developers at BioWare, gives you all the tools youll need to restore order."

News::F1 2014 PC triple screen max settings gameplay: speeding in Sochi

VVV: "With now just one week to go until F1 2014 races off the line, it's time to turn our attentions to the PC version after our hands on with the PS3 version where we can see the game truly shine, unbounded by the limitations of last-gen hardware. This of course means taking it for a spin on the trusty TeamVVV test rig. Running at maximum settings on a triple screen setup, Codemasters once again deliver the graphical goods, as Alan braves a 5 lap run in the uncharted territory of Sochi without assists. Cue lots of wheel spin as he gets to grips with the new physics, but it's refreshing to see F1 2014 offer some challenge for hardcore players."

News::Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition Review | Hardcore Gamer

Hardcore Gamer: "Its hard to believe that over three years ago, Sleeping Dogs was actually being developed as another True Crime game. For whatever reasons, Activision decided to shelve the project, only for Square Enix of all publishers to snatch it up and change the name. This was a joyous occasion as, while most True Crime titles have been less than compelling in the past, it was a setting not too familiar with most modern western video games. While the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions were perfectly fine releases, they lacked the visual fidelity the PC version had. Thus, United Front Games and Square Enix have decided to bring all the glamor of the PC version to the new set of consoles, while adding additional content, as well."

Modder extraordinaire and part-time digital saint Durante has come to our rescue once again. This time he's set his sights on Square Enix's lackluster PC port of Final Fantasy XIII by releasing an updated version of his GeDoSaTo tool which includes a custom plugin for the game allowing much higher resolutions and more expansive graphical options. You can see the results for yourself in the gallery.

Even if you don't plan on using it to polish up Square Enix's halfhearted effort at catering to PC gamers, GeDoSaTo is an exceptionally valuable tool to have on hand in any instance.

Durante offers a brief but concise explanation of what the program does on his blog:

News::Roaches beware: Terra Formars title headed for 3DS

According to the latest issue of Weekly Young Jump, a Terra Formars game is headed for 3DS, for lots of maximum roach-killing action. It's like a can of Raid, but for your Nintendo handheld. The game, tentatively titled Terra Formars: Akaki Hoshi no Gekito (Fierce Battle on the Crimson Planet), will follow Shokichi and the rest of the humans as they exterminate the Terra Formars themselves on Mars. In short, it sounds sweet. And it's from FuRyu, who's responsible for several other titles based on anime series.

In case you're not hip to the Terra Formars jive, it's an anime series you should absolutely be watching, with humanoid cockroaches hanging uot on Mars. But dig this -- they were the cockroaches that humans sent in 2577 in order to colonize the planet, along with some mold. Humanity went up to check out what was going on, and was met with these freaky roach people. So, that's disgusting. But awesome. Because you get to watch humanity's warriors fight off enormous roach people, and where else would you get to see that?

The game doesn't have a release date just yet, but will debut around 5,980 yen (~$55) when it comes out. It's gonna be the next Attack on Titan when it gets big here, I bet. Calling it now.

But how to make it stand out from their previous effort, and Yager's forthcoming sequel Dead Island 2, all while keeping their fanbase on board? The answer was to add in a nimble free-running mechanic, tense day/night cycles and a new, more gritty and realistic 'action survival' feel. Excerpt: "With a never-ending stream of Uruks in a dynamic, evolving chain of command, Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor provides nearly endless replayability in a somewhat uninteresting open-world filled with death. But the open killing fields provides for the great combat engine to be capable of handling dozens of enemies encircling you as you stave them off. There are so many emergent moments that are unique, as stories shared between friends will rarely be the same. Shadow of Mordor has so many complexities, systems, mechanics, and things to discover that cant simply be covered here. The dynamic discovery of Mordor is part of the enjoyment. You dont have to be a fan of The Lord of the Rings to appreciate what Monolith has created here, you just have to be a fan of games that have taken the steps necessary to be rightfully called next-gen."
