News::Clam chowder: The moment I fell in love with D4: Dark Dreams Don't Die

Keep an eye on David Young (the guy who doesn't look like Philip Seymour Hoffman). He's the time-traveling protagonist of D4: Dark Dreams Don't Die , an Xbox One adventure game from Deadly Premonition director Swery, and oh my god that pile of oyster crackers is too much.

This is the scene where the game clicked for me. D4 is free to download this month with an Xbox Live Gold membership, so it's the ideal time to start playing. Come meet these and other unusual characters. I mean, just listen to this fantastic theme song. That's going on repeat.

News::LyteShot Kickstarter aims to take gaming outside

Some recent Nintendo games have had little messages gently suggesting that the player take a break and go outside, but LyteShot wants to take that a step further. Built to take outside and play games in actual space with actual people, I can't help but feel like I am not in the target audience for this. Maybe someone can make a game where I get to remain in the comfort of my home while commanding other people who are playing outside. I can get down with that.

LyteShot connects to mobile phones and essentially acts like a networked lasertag set that is not limited to dank, foggy arcades. One neat thing is that it has a few different attachments, including a gun for the pew pew, a dagger for assassin-style games, and a wand for those comfortable enough to shout goofy incantations in public. Expelliarmus!

LyteShot has more than a month left in its Kickstarter campaign, and it has already raised more than 10% of its $168,534 goal.

News::Why #Gamergate is not the end for Girl Gamers

2014 has not been the best year for women within the gaming industry, perhaps a year that the women in question would like to forget? The whole #GamerGate fiasco started with an indie game developer named Zoe Quinn. The alleged allegations suggested Zoe Quinn was using sex to gain extra media coverage for her game Depression Quest. Originally the allegations were made after her relationship with Nathan Grayson, a journalist for the video game news site Kotaku came to an end, and posted screenshots of her infidelities. The fiasco continued after feminist journalist, Anita Sarkeesian made a series of Youtube videos depicting the female role within video games. #GamerGate followers suggest #GamerGate is a movement about journalistic integrity, and the movement wants to bring these stories to the forefront of the media.

News::Smite Guide: How to Get Started with Smite

James of Twinfinite writes "Smite is an online action game in which players battle alongside their teammates against the opposing force in a MOBA with a difference. Traditionally, and in the genetic vein of the original DOTA, a MOBA is played from a top down view point that is itself a long-established feature of strategy games. Smite, however, plays out from a closer angle, giving it a much more visceral and in-your-face feel. In a world where League of Legends and DOTA 2 dominate the world of e-sports and free-to-play MOBAs, Smite stands out as something a little special."

News::John VanderZwet Discusses Do-Anything MMO Identity

Ahmad Khan writes: "Developers heading to Kickstarter to fund their dream MMO isn't terribly unique, just look at Pathfinder Online and The Repopulation. What is unusual though, is someone funding a project as unique as Identity. As we're covered previously, Identity isn't your typical MMORPG; it's closer to an online life simulator. Want to head into the woods and hunt? Go for it. Want to make a living as a trucker? It's up to you! This incredibly ambitious project is being put together by Asylum Entertainment, a mysterious group of developers headed by John VanderZwet. We recently caught up with John to ask him a bit about Identity."

Hey Poor Player's Jay Petrequin writes- RPGs, as we all know, are particularly unpredictable beasts, and should be treated with extreme caution. News::Diablo III Reaper of Souls: The Ultimate Evil Edition | TheGamerStudio

Diablo III Reaper of Souls: The Ultimate Evil Edition, or simply D3 for the purpose of this review, keeps the key components that made the series a success, while fixing the bugs that plagued its initial launch. To start, the Auction House, where gamers used in game or real money to purchase rare or legendary items, was thankfully removed. The core idea of gamers being able to buy and sell items is, and always will be, sound but the execution was severely lacking. Blizzard, using the success of the World of Warcrafts Auction House, attempted to up the ante, and instead failed miserably. Despite the annoying random number generator (RNG) that troubled the initial launch, Diablo has always been designed to reward gamers through their exploration of Sanctuary and through combat; not how much money they acquired. In addition to the removal of the Auction House, Blizzard fixed the RNG problems gamers encountered, providing a substantial increase of rare and legendary drops. During my c...
