News::6 Video Game Moments That Are Surprisingly Scary

Horror games are all the rage these days, with games like Outlast and Five Nights at Freddy's delivering scares to hordes of players. However, before the horror genre's recent revival, there were plenty of games out there that scared players. These moments in gaming shocked us with how creepy they were. The developers, sometimes unintentionally, managed to get under our skin in some strange ways. We're still thinking about these scares even years later.

News::PAXAus Previews 2014 Never Alone - AMHNetwork

Paul James says "It wasnt the longest demo Ive ever had the privilege of playing, but it was one that immediately jumped out at me and then stuck with me well beyond its completion. Never Alone is expected to last somewhere between 3-5 hours and will be available on the PS4, Xbox One and Steam when it releases on November 18th. It is an extremely busy week in the gaming calendar this year, but this could be one of the big ones to watch. Never Alone has the potential to take hold emotionally like few other games and it has this player sold."

News::The Evil Within: Your Meaty Fate

Technology Tell writes, "The Evil Within is a brilliant, shining example of how a potentially excellent game can be thoroughly undermined by clumsy design. Playing it made for the most wildly inconsistent gaming experience Ive had in recent memory, eliciting fear, frustration, amusement, disappointment, intrigue, and disgust in equal measure, often within the course of the same level. The Evil Withins combat is good as long as you dont need to do anything with any accuracy, at which point it becomes terrible. The story is fascinating, and Tango Gameworks has absolutely no idea how to tell it."

News::Horror Games Aren't The Scariest Games

"I dont find horror games anywhere near as scary as the very real terrifying things that just kind of happen in some video games. I mean, have you seen Skyrims living mannequin glitch? Heard the legend of Minecrafts Herobrine? Stuff is messed up. Its also one of gamings greatest strengths, something no other medium can do. Allow me to explain. The short version is, its not a glitch, its a feature. Given that its Halloween, I thought Id spend the day getting in the spirit by watching creepy video game stuff online. Before long, though, I diverted off the straight-and-narrow of people scream-vomiting up lungs to Amnesia, PT, and Alien: Isolation and followed links to stuff that was downright weird. Games doing things nobody ever intended for them to do."

News::Jack's doppelganger in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel will fight using digital clones

2K announced at PAX Prime that one of Jack's look-alike bodyguards would be the first DLC Vault Hunter for Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel , but information past that was scant. Pieces of his back story can be found via semi-hidden recordings in Jack's Office on Helios Station, but now we have more concrete details on how he will play, thanks to a PAX Australia announcement.

His class is called the Doppelganger, and his Action Skill is Expendable Assets, which summons two digistructed clones of himself that fight alongside him until the timer runs out. It should sound familiar, because Handsome Jack uses that power during the fight against him in Borderlands 2 .

His three skill trees are The Hero of this Story, Greater Good, and Free Enterprise. Hero of this Story grants defensive and grenade buffs, Greater Good is focused on co-op with bonuses during Fight For Your Life mode, and Free Enterprise takes different weapon manufacturers into account and encourages switching weapons frequently.

Jack the Doppelganger set to release on November 11. The character is included in the Season Pass, or can be purchased separately for $9.99.

Continue Play: "Remember when a games worth was determined not by how many polygons it pushed around the screen at any point in time, or how many pixels there were, but because it was fun? News::Armored Warfare Preview - Mouse n Joypad

Johnny writes - "Armored Warfare is under development by Obsidian Entertainment and My.com, and is a free to play tank shooter much in the style of World Of Tanks which we all know. Recently I was able to get some hands on time with the game, and also have a chat to the guys from Obsidian Entertainment and My.com on what they are trying to achieve by bringing Armored Warfare to the masses. Many of us know that free to play games rarely deliver a true free to play experience to the gamer and in many cases force the player to pay in order to win, and this was at the forefront of my mind going into playing Armoured Warfare. These alpha builds that many developers show to the press usually have the best of the best equipment unlocked and ready to play, so we get the full experience from what they are trying to sell to the public, and this often leads to misguided information being reported back to you, the gamer."

News::Why gamers Miss Developer-Run MMO Events

Developers love to talk about how the worlds of their mmo games are vibrant and packed full of exciting events. On the flip side, players love to have something exciting to do and taking part in dynamic events or other global actions serves to immerse the player more fully in the game and ramp up the excitement level. The focus today seems to be on having a game start various dynamic events when certain triggers are hit, such as is the case in Guild Wars 2. While such events are enjoyable, they are quite predictable. While online games have progressed in terms of technology, sound, and graphics, they have actually fallen behind in the sense of connectivity between developers and players in terms of in-game events. MMO-Play explain why players miss developer-run mmo events.

Zeb Larson, GIZORAMA - "The Detail is a story-driven adventure game akin to The Walking Dead. Borrowing thematic inspiration from The Wire and graphical inspiration from a variety of graphic novels and comic books, the game places you in the role of a bitter police detective and an ex-con turned states witness working to unravel a series of increasingly violent gangland killings. While the first episode is short, the moral decisions that must be made are appropriately difficult and the series is off to a good start."
