News:: Nintendo hires second sloth at NES Classic factory (Fauxclusive)

Following news that Nintendo is ramping up efforts to produce more Switch units, the company also announced it will double the workforce at the facility manufacturing the NES Classic by hiring a second sloth.

The sloth, named Màn, is set to join the only other employee in the factory, Bǐjiào màn, another sloth who has been unable to meet the global demand for the hot-ticket item.

“After many meetings with the higher-ups, we’ve come to realize we’ll never satisfy every fan looking for the NES Classic with just one sloth on the job, especially when that sloth keeps taking three-hour smoking breaks,” company spokesman Kyle Toadsly explained. “That’s why we hired a second sloth. With the two of them at work, we’re fairly confident we’ll be able to sell a Classic to everyone who wants one by the year 2087.”

Toadsly says the company had hoped that one sloth would be able to produce enough units to last long enough for everyone to get over it but says it was caught off-guard by the high demand for classic Nintendo titles that there always has been and always will be high demand for.

“We understand that there are millions of people who only already have three or four copies of these games they’ve bought from Nintendo throughout the years,” Toadsly said. “Trust me when I say it pains us to know that some people can only play Super Mario Bros. on their Wii U, 3DS, Wii Virtual Console, Wii as part of the 25th Anniversary collection, GameCube, Game Boy Advance, Game Boy Color, Super Nintendo, NES, and that copy you downloaded to your computer as a way to stick it to us or something. With two sloths now on the job, know that you are closer than ever to having yet another device to play that classic game on. The device I’m talking about is, of course, the Nintendo Switch, but I’m pretty sure you’ll be able to get a Classic too eventually.”

News:: Weekend Deals: Mass Effect Andromeda, NieR: Automata

Who isn't going to sleep with a blue alien in Tuesday's release Mass Effect Avatar... I mean Andromeda. Pre-ordering through Dell Home, they'll send you a huge $25 gift card bonus (effectively a $35 game this way). On PC you can buy from GMG for only $48 with its 20% discount. Not bad, but you should also note that keys at GMG are sourced in the UK and shipping is dealyed till the 23rd (your call if it's worth the extra two-day wait?).

Also available at GMG this weekend is the best price on NieR: Automata for PC. There she's down to $49.29 after $11 instant savings once you login or create an account. As of the time of writing GMG is selling the Day One Edition, but that could change at any moment, so keep that in mind when you make a purchase. Initial reviews were a bit spotty with some PC port issues (particular for Radeon RX 4XX owners but that appears to be mostly resolved with workarounds).

Finally, this weekend are the many PC gaming sales going on. It's March Madness at the WinGamestore with $42 Civilization VI, $17 Mafia III, $9 Borderlands Pre-Sequel, and more. Bundle Stars Spring sale is seeing $28 Urban Empire, $4.49 Mad Max, and $3.59 Killing Floor. GMG's St. Patrick's Day Sale has $48 Civ VI Deluxe, $7 Borderlands 2 GOTY, $30 WWE 2K17, and more. News:: Review: I Am Setsuna (Switch)

Last year, we saw the release of I Am Setsuna for the PlayStation 4 and PC. Much like one of Square Enix's other recent role-playing games, Bravely Default, it was an attempt by the publisher to provide an experience somewhat reminiscent of an old-school JRPG from a previous era in gaming.

Considering its recent re-release on the Nintendo Switch, this seemed like as good of an opportunity as ever to revisit this modern take on a classic genre. After all, unless we suddenly enter a hypothetical perfect timeline where not only does the Switch have Virtual Console support, but where Square Enix has also released its back catalogue of role-playing games on the platform, this is the closest thing we've got to such titles on Nintendo's new console.

News:: 'Super Mario Run' reaches Android on March 23rd

Android users won't have to wait much longer to find out whether or not Super Mario Run has justified any of the hype. Nintendo has made good on its earlier promise and revealed that the Android edition of the touchscreen runner will arrive on March 23rd, in sync with version 2.0 of the game. That update will give you more character choices beyond the current six, and will throw free players a bone by letting them tackle World 1-4 if they complete a challenge. There's more to 2.0 than that, Nintendo teases, but you'll have to wait to learn the rest.

News:: Super Mario Run hops and bops its way to Android next week

If you've been waiting for Super Mario Run to come to Android, that wait is almost over. Nintendo of America announced on Twitter the game will release next week, March 23. The launch will be worldwide, however, according to the game's official website the Android version will be available in fewer countries than its iOS counterpart.

News:: Review: World of Goo (Switch)

Wait long enough, and everything old can start to feel new again.

That's the happy accident of a situation I found myself in with World of Goo, the near-universally well-liked puzzle game about plucking and plopping down living bits of gooey foundation. It has long been filed away in my mind as a wonderful video game, but a few too many faded memories have rendered me unable to express specifics beyond that generalized warm and fuzzy sentiment.

With the latest port arriving on Nintendo Switch, I've been given all the reason I need to revisit World of Goo and potentially fall for it once more. Despite first releasing in a far-different independent game scene back in 2008 -- WiiWare feels like a lifetime ago! -- it still has that special feeling today.

News:: Big o' St. Patrick's sale brings 40% off Civilization VI

It's green beer, corned beef, and cheap Civilization VI this St. Patrick's Day weekend. Steam launched a 2K publisher sale yesterday morning, cutting the price of the Standard Edition of Civilization VI to $47.99. Well, Green Man Gaming has outdone Steam, cutting the Deluxe Edition price to the same $47.99 which makes it the cheapest Deluxe copy by a wide margin.

Of course the deal is all part of GMG's new St. Patrick's Day sale, which runs through the weekend and covers a wide range of PC gaming deals. There are dozens of games that are hard to fit into a category, but two categories are clearly defined: Paradox Interactive and "outer space" titles.

In the Paradox Interactive sale we're seen new lows on the recently released Tyranny game as well as good prices on its bread and butter Crusader Kings II, the Hearts of Iron series, and Europa Universalis IV. In the Outer Space sale you'll find bunch of XCOM-related titles for cheap.

News:: The Morning After: Weekend Edition

Letter from the Editor

If you can define a year before it's halfway over, 2017 may well be the year of blurred lines. No, not the 2013 Robin Thicke song, but the lines that separate reality from fantasy. This week started off with White House officials questioning the laws of physics when Counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway defended her boss's accusation via Twitter that former president Barack Obama had him wiretapped.

"What I can say is there are many ways to surveil each other now, unfortunately. There was an article this week that talked about how you can surveil someone through their phones -- certainly through their television sets, any number of different ways. And microwaves that turn into cameras, et cetera," Conway told the Bergen County Record's Mike Kelly in an interview.

Microwaves that turn into cameras? The internet exploded. Our own Cherlynn Low debunked the baseless claim, and Conway, the mother of alternative facts, eventually admitted to CNN that she's "not Inspector Gadget" and doesn't "believe people are using the microwave to spy on the Trump campaign." This particular political flub may have generated a few good laughs, but it's just one in a series of examples that bring into focus the sometimes bizarre, often unreal reality many of us find ourselves in today. In 2017, truth isn't about facts -- it's about perception.
