News::Throwdown Ep. 08 Murder Simulators

The Koalition's Tony Polanco writes: "On today's episode we look at the bigger picture and ask Are video games inherently violent? Most games contain violence and the way you interact with many game worlds is by killing whatever inhabits it. Why is this the case and what games exist that have no violence whatsoever? This forms the basis of our main topic. We brought along two of our friends from video game site 2D-X.com. Editor-in-Chief Tim Torres and Features Editor Gabriel Zamora join us to discuss Smash Bros. for the Wii U. The game had a big Nintendo Direct today and since the fellas are huge fans of the series, I wanted to have them on to tell us what they thought. We couldnt just have Chris Sealy shit all over it after all."

News::Sakura Spirit Review | PixelPerfectGaming

Sakura Spirit is a mature, entertaining visual novel that is available on the Steam Network. Just in case you are not familiar with visual novels: they can be very similar to a Choose Your Own Adventure, allowing the player to make decisions that will affect the story. Not all visual novels carry a mature rating, but Sakura Spirit is the exception. Even though it has a mature rating, its mostly due to the explicit sexual dialog and nothing to do with full frontal nudity.

Word has gotten out about Swery65's cult classic Deadly Premonition in the years since Jim Sterling's memorable review, but there are many people who wrote it off or otherwise missed out. This might help. Rising Star Games has discounted the Director's Cut to $2.49 on Steam.

That's 90 percent off, now through October 27. But hold on a sec. Your results may very with this PC port as it's known to have technical issues, at least for some players. There are reports of low frame rates and, worse yet, crashes and failures to start. Keep that in mind.

If you aren't willing to risk it, playing on Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 remains an option. You just need to get far enough in to look past the rough edges and you'll find an unforgettable game.

News::IncGamers readers feel recent PC ports have been hobbled

"Our most recent poll canvased reader opinion about the quality of recent PC ports in comparison to prior PC versions of games. We wanted to know whether people felt that the general quality was improving, sliding or staying broadly the same. While this poll wasnt quite as popular as the Assassins Creed: Unity frame-rate query, it still attracted several hundred responses. Of those responses, 53% agreed with the assertion that current PC ports are being intentionally hobbled in order to make the present crop of consoles look better. Incidents like the Watch Dogs PC release burying improved graphics options deep within its code have probably contributed to this belief."

News::Review: Mind Zero

At a glance, it's easy to look at Mind Zero and compare it to the Persona series given its art style and the narrative advertised within early trailers and promotional materials. And you wouldn't be incorrect in declaring that it borrows several elements from the popular role-playing series.

Still, it's unfair to call Mind Zero a copycat when its most fundamental elements are much different from the Shin Megami Tensei spinoff. That doesn't mean the game is actually all that impressive, however. Acquire and ZeroDiv's Vita RPG features an interesting premise, but in the end it's a weaker product than those that obviously inspired it.
