News::Super Smash Bros. has some of the best screenshots

Don't get me wrong, I'm far from immune to the charms of Super Smash Bros. and seem to always get giddy when booting up the latest title for the first time, but the lead up to each new installment is where it's really at for me. Remember Smash Bros. DOJO!!? Those were the good times.

Nintendo has been updating its official site for the upcoming 3DS and Wii U game with daily images that are often overflowing with personality and put most other promotional materials to shame. Today's screenshot from director Masahiro Sakurai was too good to resist sharing.

With many months of development time ahead of the Smash Bros. team, it's never too late to make checking in part of your daily routine. You're so not ready for the Wii Fit Trainer's poses.

Capcom has unveiled a new Strider game, in development at Double Helix and set for release on Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4 and PC early next year.

News::In Crawl, man is the greatest monster of all

Have you ever been playing a game only to die repeatedly by way of some stupid, annoying trap and thought, "I'd like to be that trap and kill other people?" Well, you miserable sack of bibles, now you can.

Crawl is a four player dungeon crawler coming out this year, and by the (good) looks of it, Adventure Time 's won't be the only dungeon I crawl this fall. The twist in Crawl is that your friends play as the assorted monsters and traps in the game. Your homies can play as sword-wielding skeletons, irritating flame traps, and giant tentacle monsters all with the intent of messing you up. When someone kills the hero player, they assume the role and the former hero gets to grief.

The two person team at newly formed Powerhoof has some character behind it, if that well done trailer wasn't evidence enough.

This is our take on the classic four-player gameplay of Gauntlet, mixed with a Japanese bullet-hell shooter… I guess if you imagined Super Bomberman had sex with The Legend of Zelda you’d have Crawl… and a mental image of some sort.

Sounds good to me. You? Oh, and make sure to peep the adorable Gabe Newell pixel art on their website. Would make for a great boss character.

News::Time keeps on slipping in Lightning Returns: FFXIII

I'm really rather stoked for Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII in spite of myself. And it's not the flagrant appeal to nostalgia with the Cloud Strife outfit and buster sword DLC, promise. Actually, Lightning's new default costume marks some of the better character design in the Final Fantasy XIII sub-series, ostentatious as it is. Still, there's going to be some conflict within me over whether to rock it, the SOLDIER uniform, or some other duds, like the Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Miqo’te outfit from this trailer.

Now I'm remembering how much time I spent in Resonance of Fate at the clothing shop. Or all of Persona 3 and Persona 4 's cool outfits (like the main character's Dojima garb in P4!). Our own Joseph Leray can explain to you why Final Fantasy X-2 is good.

Clothing aside, this was a damn good trailer. Relatively subdued, as far as Final Fantasy trailers go. Easy on the bombast. You've the pitter patter of scared footsteps from guards. When a big monster does show up, the background music dies down so you can appreciate its heft and menace. The music is also strangely akin to Western dramas and thrillers before the last third's montage kicks up. Plus there were Max Payne 3/Papo & Yo favelas. Good show.

Beyond that, the PlayStation Blog has some gameplay details. Some foes can be disabled piecemeal and your loot drop can change depending on which sections you destroy, and there is also a manual counter attack mechanic. The counter, only effective against physical attacks, uses up a chunk of the ATB, which is cool. Using it badly could be disastrous, but using it successfully could be a game changer. I'm down with more chances for engagement. Nailing R1 to critical hit in Final Fantasy VIII was fun. What do you guys think?

News::Preview: Saints Row IV | Xboxer360

Ben of Xboxer360 writes, "Saints Row is a crazy game, its really that simple. It may have started out more akin to that of its gang-banging older brother Grand Theft Auto, but some time ago the tam at Volition took the moral high ground (or low ground if you prefer) and dropped the serious undertones in favour of comedy and efforts to make Saints Row the king of the Sandbox. With each new installment you could do more and more until now, in Saints Row IV, where literally the sky is the limit and even that goes pretty high up. During its initial production, moving from standalone DLC to a full retail sequel, Saints Row IV and Volition were caught up in the aftermath of THQ's massive collapse, which left Saints Row's future up in the air for quite some time. Thankfully Deep Silver were able to take the reins, meaning Saints Row IV was back in business but with such a turbulent production period, did this affect the end product at all? Well luckily I had the chance to sit down with...
