News::Amazon announces its $99 set-top box Fire TV

Amazon has finally announced its long-rumored media device and it's available for purchase as of today. The $99 Amazon Fire TV supports expected streaming services like Netflix, Hulu Plus, Prime Instant Video, and Pandora, but games also have a presence on the box which sports an Adreno 320 GPU, 2GB of memory, and a quad-core processor.

There a over a hundred games supported including Minecraft: Pocket Edition, Asphalt 8, and Amazon Game Studios' exclusive third-person shooter Sev Zero, with "thousands more coming soon." According to Amazon, many of these games free and "the average price of paid games is just $1.85." Of course, that less-than-ideal gamepad is being sold separately for $39.99.

There are a few interesting gimmicks, but the one that sounds most intriguing to me is ASAP (Advanced Streaming and Prediction), a feature which predicts movies or television episodes you'll want to watch and prepares them for playback ahead of time to avoid buffering. I'm not really in the market for the Fire TV as a Roku owner -- and Amazon has a long way to go before it can pull me in with its gaming initiative -- but this looks like a nice little box. Maybe someday.

News::Composer Nobuo Uematsu joins Defender's Quest II

There's really nothing more that needs to be said about Defender's Quest II: Mist of Ruin for me to be interested in it -- that's how much I liked the last game, which remains one of my favorite tower-defense titles. Today's news, then, is total icing on top: renowned Final Fantasy composer Nobuo Uematsu has joined the project! What a pleasant surprise.

He will be collaborating with the composer of the original game, Keven Penkin, for the Defender's Quest II soundtrack. From what I've heard about the sequel, its story will be a terrific fit for Uematsu's music. I'm expected everyone working on the game -- including animator Dean Dodrill, of Dust: An Elysian Tail -- to absolutely nail it. They haven't let me down yet.

News::Dalylight sees a slight delay, now coming April 29

Daylight has been delayed slightly, and will now be coming out on April 29 instead of on April 8. Why the delay? So Atlus and developers Zombie Studios can fine tune the scariness. Atlus released this statement on the exact reasons they had to push things back a little.

"Here's the thing: the way Daylight is developed is completely different because of its procedural generation. In a lot of ways it really helped the team by streamlining the environment creation, but it's taken extra time to make sure all the scare cues are properly implemented for maximum player effect."

For those of you interested in picking this one up, you can pre-order the PC version and get it for $9.99. PS Plus subscribers can also get it for that price too on the PlayStation 4, and non-subscribers can pick it up for $11.99 otherwise. Daylight will then run for $14.99 once the promotional period ends.

For the upcoming Ludum Dare Game Jam, developer benpurdy produced a demake for the original Legend of Zelda titled "Zelda in 16x16 pixels." This is more or less the entire game here, with all eight pieces of the Triforce in tow.

You'll use the arrow keys to move, and after you enter the cave you'll grab your sword, which can be used with the "A" key. Bombs can also be aquired and used with "S." All in all it's a pretty comprehensive demake, and if you're a hardcore fan of the NES game it's worth testing out!
