News::VRFocus Preview: The Assembly

VRFocus - 2014 is a landmark year for virtual reality (VR). Despite the fact that were unlikely to see any of the head-mounted displays (HMDs) make their way to retail before the years end, we are noticing a shift in software. Its no longer five-minute tech demos by indie teams that are making the headlines; its professional studios with budgets that stretch beyond production and into marketing and PR. Sony Computer Entertainment, Epic Games, Square Enix and now nDreams, as today the UK studio revealed The Assembly.

News::Hunt: Horrors of the Gilded Age E3 2014 Impressions | Nerdacy

Nerdacy: "Crytek was at E3 2014 showing off a few of their new games including HUNT: Horrors of the Gilded Age and I honestly will say that I was impressed. The build we saw was pre-alpha and had been about one year into development. Set in the late 19th century in Louisiana, you play as one of four hunters (up to four-player co-op) who is tasked with hunting down monsters, beasts, and viscous creatures. In the hands-off gameplay demo, we were shown unscripted gameplay of the four hunters hunting down the Nightmare Witch."

News::The Division aiming for 30fps, as to not compromise graphical fidelity

In this day and age, if you're talking about a new game, you best believe people are talking about its resolution and the amount of frames per second. It's like an unwritten law. So naturally, Massive's David Polfeldt felt the need to address this issue for The Division, since the game does look extremely beautiful.

News::Warframe heading to Xbox One this year

Digital Extremes' free-to-play shooter Warframe has done well for itself on PC and PlayStation 4. It'll probably do well on Xbox One too, which is where it's coming next, sometime this year.

Although, fact of the matter is it's not truly "free" because of that pesky Xbox Live Gold requirement, unless Microsoft waives it before Warframe releases. (Which it conceivably could and should.) This version will support second-screen functionality through SmartGlass and the Warframe Nexus App for Windows Phone, iOS, and Android.

For those of you who haven't played it but liked multiplayer in Mass Effect 3, it's worth a look. There's a nice sense of speed, and maintaining momentum by sliding is good fun.

According to producer Hitoshi Yamagami, patient fans will be rewarded hopefully not too far from now. "We are always thinking about the next iteration of Advance Wars and Fire Emblem," he said. "We can't reveal any of those details tonight, but when the time is right we will."

And as for Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem? "We are right on schedule," explained Yamagami, before noting that if he provided any more details he'd lose his job.

Since Bioware first began talking about Dragon Age Inquisition they have come at it from the angle of redeeming the series. Following a demo of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, prominent game designer Hideo Kojima told Joystiq, through a translator, that it's important for media to reflect the era in which it is developed. Games with authorship tell a story beyond what appears within the product's narrative, he said; they give players a perspective on the state of the world at the time of a game's development.
