News::Bioshock: Infinite Review | Esperino

While there are certainly some franchises that focus on capitalizing on popular demand more than the gamers experience, Bioshock, in its two previous games, seems more intent to captivate the players attention and imagination with more than just gimmicks. With a rocky road to release for Bioshock: Infinite, one begins to wonder if it will affect the overall quality of the product.

News::Time to wildly speculate about the upcoming Bioshock Infinite DLC

Paul Verhoeven: As it stands, the internet is now convinced that the first piece of DLC for the superb Bioshock Infinite, a game with an ending that many want to have babies with, will feature a new companion AI character who isn't Elizabeth. So no Elizabeth. At least, that's the prevailing fear, and given how much of the game's brilliance rested on her, that would suck.

News::Lack of Call of Duty hype points to franchise fatigue

Yesterday marked the annual reveal of the latest Call of Duty title, and as usual we were promised new features, a new story and a new set of characters to wage war with. Nothing out of the ordinary here, but this year's reveal felt different somehow, as if COD fans throughout the world just watched the latest teaser trailer and let out one big sigh of, "What? More of the same? Again?"

News::5 ways that Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon pays homage to Predator

Predator, an undeniable 80s action classic, has endured as a fan favorite due to its heaping doses of machismo, incredibly memorable one-liners, its quotes, and a stealthy, murderous alien who collects skulls from fallen warriors. The flicks video game adaptations have been awful, but it receives some interactive redemption in Ubisofts Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon.

News::Cloudbuilt looks like it was developed in my dreams

As a general rule, I keep a skeptical view of games currently in the developmental stage. It's important to curb expectations, because after all, trailers are created to make something look good. But this trailer for the upcoming indie PC game Cloudbuilt looks just plain awesome, and after seeing it in action for a few seconds, you'll probably see why.

I'm a sucker for games with open spaces like Mirror's Edge (particularly the abstract DLC trial maps) or Gravity Rush, and this looks like a mix of all three, with some Mega Man thrown in for good measure. The soundtrack, art style, and gameplay all seem to come together to create a captivating prospect -- I just hope the final product delivers.

Cloudbuilt is currently on Steam Greenlight if you're interested.

News::Dragon's Crown shows off the wily Wizard

So far in the world of Dragon's Crown , we've seen footage of the Elf, Sorceress, and the Warrior and Dwarf. Today, we're one step closer to seeing everyone in action, as the Wizard (who may or may not be related to Magus) makes his debut -- only the Amazon is left.

He seems to be a jack of all trades strictly in terms of the diversity of offense, sacrificing mobility and defensive capabilities for attack spells of all types. He has at least one homing attack (which can be used in the air to play keep-away), massive AOE spells, and if you look very closely at 0:23, he might have the ability to summon minions. I like how he's reading all his incantations from his book -- if he has to remain stationary for more powerful attacks, he may be the very definition of a glass cannon.

As we know, I called dibs close to launch!

News::Eurogamer - Slender: The Arrival Review

EG:Slender: The Arrival is a work of horror, but 'horror' doesn't come close to covering the emotional journey involved. Angst comes first. It arrives after you leave the muffled safety of your Jeep and twist through the trees towards an old friend's mansion for a reunion. As any walker knows, night doesn't fall in a forest. It rises, up from the brush, in great billowing shadows. By the time you make it to the front door the light has entirely failed, the darkness surged through the leaf canopy, up and up, to form a unanimous night.

News::Corsual Let's Play: Dead Island Riptide with EXP

Corsual's EXP writes: "Dead Island: Riptide, soon to be known as Dead Island: On Another Island is stale entry into the first-person-whack-a-zombie genre that, like its predecessor, Dead Island, places a group of survivors on a tropical island filled with zombies that need to be kicked, stomped, stabbed or blown away, so that said survivors can stay... well, survivors. News::A better look at Europe's The Last of Us special editions

Europe is getting two special editions of The Last of Us and Sony has provided a couple of new videos to give us a better look at what each edition contains. The Joel and Ellie editions each include the same stuff, the only difference is that either Joel or Ellie's face will adorn all the extra goodies.

So you'll get the game, a canvas wrap, mini artbook, mini comic, screen print poster, a PS3 dynamic theme, digital soundtrack, two exclusive avatars, a PS3 controller skin, and LittleBigPlanet costume. There's also a bunch of extras for the multiplayer consisting of items, currency, experience points, a stronger melee attack, and two bonus skins for Joel and Ellie.

North American players will be getting a special edition as well, which includes a statue of Joel and Ellie. Neat if you're into collecting extras that you'll possibly not care about after a year or so.

News::Banjo-Kazooie composer is doing Castle of Illusion's OST

The Bear meets The Mouse! Errr... sorta. Okay, not really. But wouldn't that be something?

The Castle of Illusion HD remake will now be even more spectacular thanks to the knowledge that former Rare composer Grant Kirkhope is on music duty. The man has certainly been in the public eye a lot lately, appearing on a special episode of Game Grumps and releasing truncated versions of his Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie soundtracks on Bandcamp. He's also working on the upcoming Ninja Gaiden spin-off Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z . Busy, busy!

Kirkhope's pretty much done with this latest project, as he announced on Twitter last week that he only had one track left. Does this news pump anyone up even more for Castle of Illusion's release this summer on PS3, 360, and PC?

Defiance is a very interesting game from the premises, which unfortunately does not dare to fly high (perhaps for fear of overdoing it) giving an average solid and satisfying experience, but without those little goodies and innovations that could hack it in the memory of those who decided to give it a try. Fortunately, the MMO genre allows wide adjustment maneuvers also work in progress and it will be interesting to see if it can survive at least in its first year of life without recording a dramatic and life-threatening lowering of interest.

News::Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon review - MMGN

MMGN: Blood Dragon thrives on '80s nostalgia. It's bursting with pop-culture references, the neon-drenched visuals haven't been seen in a major production for more than 20 years and the story is brimming with hilarity. Hardcore Gamer: Shattered Horizon is an FPS with a huge twist - you're flying through space. Also, going through corridors, but seriously, it's a zero-g FPS. Bloomberg adds that Sony reported its first annual net profit in five years last week, thanks to asset sales and a weaker yen, but continues to make losses in its TV and mobile phone businesses. To emphasize this mystery and fear surrounding the character, the team is planning on amping up their use of silhouettes and film noir-esque low-key lighting to make him a more imposing figure. News::Dreamcast shooter Sturmwind released, 16 years later

Shooters, SHMUPS, STGs. Call them what you want, but let's agree we don't have enough of them these days. Indie developers are changing that and are doing it on an unexpected platform: SEGA's Dreamcast.

The latest two shoot-em-ups are Sturmwind, released last week after 16 years of development, and Ghost Blade , which is slated for later this year.

Sturmwind was conceived on the Atari Jaguar in 1997-- the game was called Native, at the time -- only to be released on the Dreamcast, on April 23, 2013. Between it's solid shooting mechanics and gorgeous comic aesthetic, the long development time shows in the polish. Sturmwind features 20 bosses, 16 stages, and online leaderboards. The game can be purchased in an equally gorgeous limited edition package on Red Spot Games for €69.95 or its standard version at €34.95.

Ghost Blade comes from Hucast Games, which includes members of recent Dreamcast action title GunLord. After successfully funding Dreamcast/iOS shooter Redux: Dark Matters on Kickstarter, part of the team split off to develop Ghost Blade. The game is still in an early state but we now have footage of it in action. Redux is still in development, postponed from its December 2012 launch so the team could add a seventh stage.
