News::Vanishing of Ethan Carter release date and console talk

Eurogamer : Weird fiction horror game The Vanishing of Ethan Carter will be released roughly four months from now, creator Adrian Chmielarz has told me. "We are going to have probably the worst possible release date, which is the middle of summer..." he groaned, speaking to me at Polish conference Digital Dragons. "It's hot and it's summer - do you really want to play a game about autumn?" It's a PC game for the time being, but PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions are definitely on the cards. "It would be idiotic not to, to be honest," he said. "Maybe that's too strong of a word but you know what I mean, right? If the game resonates with people... that's easily going to be the first thing we do."

As should be the case with episodic adventures, the wait for the release of each episode of Telltales second season of The Walking Dead is becoming more and more aggravating, not necessarily because the waits are ridiculously long, but because the writing has remained so strong, and each episode has made a habit of climaxing in a way thatll leave you wanting more. This is once again the case with In Harms Way, at episode that sees Season Two hit new heights and leaves you salivating at the prospect of whats to come.

First-Person Games Meet Strategy Games. In Space.

I used to play this old PC game called USS Ticonderoga. It was a pretty clunky modern naval simulation, but I persisted with it for one reason: it let you explore your ship in first-person. I can't believe it's taken this long for another game to realise how awesome that premise is.

News::Tarsier Studios presents Hunger, a surreal action adventure

Tarsier Studios did an excellent job on LittleBigPlanet Vita , and I thoroughly enjoyed my time with it. Their new project Hunger looks like a decidedly different affair, a much more mythical story with somber tones and stealth elements that make it a completely different sort of game entirely.

Hunger is a third-person 3D action-adventure game that incorporates stealth and exploration elements as it follows nine-year-old girl Six during her time in The Maw. We're not talking about TwistedPixel's game here -- The Maw is actually an underwater "resort" where prisoners work to make the wishes of the elite a reality. Six journeys through the strange world of The Maw and, from the look of this concept art, takes in some pretty bizarre sights.

This will be Tarsier's first original IP since The City of Metronome, back in 2005. It looks deliciously disturbing, doesn't it? It'll be interesting to see how Six is able to interact with her environment and vice versa.

News::Talking Indie Game Design With the Creator of The Blackwell Epiphany

Entertainment Buddha's Matt Heywood writes, "While at PAX East this year I had the chance to interview Dave Gilbert, who is the creator of Wadjeteye Games, and its Blackwell series of adventure-based video games. His latest creation is the conclusion to the Blackwell series, which is called The Blackwell Epiphany. The Blackwell Epiphany is a throw back to old school adventure games complete with charming pixel art, and plenty of point-and-click gameplay. It mixes the visual style of games from the past with the highly addictive story driven mechanics from Telltales line of narrative-based titles. Gamers who grew up in the 80s and 90s will surely wax nostalgic at the visual style of this game, but those gamers that prefer a deep story and adventure will also be pleased by what The Blackwell Epiphany has to offer."

News::Bombing Bastards makes me long for Bomberman

A game called Bombing Bastards is slated for release on Wii U "within the next couple of months," with a PlayStation 4 version to eventually follow. Can they -- can they name it that? Not even Stealth Bastard made it to PlayStation Network unscathed.

No matter what it's called, this will likely be remembered as another game that looks like Bomberman. Which, these days, isn't the worst of fates. It's not like much is happening with the property. Developer Sanuk Games has a single-player mode with bosses and a two- to five-player battle mode that supports the GamePad, Wii Remote, Classic Controller, and Pro Controller.

Okay. That's sufficient. Or I could just keep playing Super Bomberman 2 and Bomberman Live.

News::Wii U getting a GameCube-inspired fighting controller

The Wii U doesn't really have a good controller for fighting games, so enter PDP with their Wired Fight Pad as they're calling it. The controller has GameCube controller design inspirations, and is even licensed by Nintendo. It'll work for the Wii and Wii U, and plugs into the Wiimote.

The Fight Pad will run for $24.99, and is expected for release this holiday season. Any game that supports the Classic Controller and Classic Controller Pro will work with the Fight Pad, plus some Virtual Console games will work with this too. There will be multiple versions of the controller released as well, with designs featuring Mario, Yoshi, and Princess Peach.

Well Super Smash Bros. just got more enticing on the Wii U.

News::That new Gauntlet game is coming out on September 3

Hey! Remember how there's a new Gauntlet happening and people were excited for it yet Warner Bros. is barely making a big deal about it? Well yeah it's still happening, set to arrive for just the PC/Steam on September 3.

The online/local four-player classic is up for pre-order, and if you want to "secure" your copy now you will be given extra items and a free comic the day the game is released. The comic is titled Gauntlet: Darkness Calls, and will detail the origins of "Gauntlet's most vile master," Morak.

More interesting to me from this press release was details on WB Games Vault, a program that will see Midway/Warner Bros IP paired with different game developers. For instance, this new Gauntlet is being made by Arrowhead Game Studios, famous for the Magicka series. It's nice to see a studio finally attempting to do something with their old IPs.

News::Intel: Broadwell Shipping in Time for "The Holidays"

GamersNexus: "There's been a lot of delaying going on in the industry lately. NVidia and AMD have both pushed back launches (Maxwell, Titan Z) on the GPU side, Intel pushed back X99 / HW-E to 3Q14, and even delayed Broadwell into "4Q14 or 1Q15." All of these delays are attributable to fabrication process changes that are sweeping the semiconductor industry right now; we're shrinking the process to a point that it's small enough that new engineering hurdles have arisen -- good news for innovation, but bad for the impatient."

GameZone: "Nom Nom Galaxy isn't the next Terraria it's the first Nom Nom Galaxy. I mean, I get it. It's always pretty easy to draw comparisons between something new and whatever it reminds us of. Still, sometimes it's not that simple. Was Sonic the Hedgehog the Mario killer? Not necessarily. Did Saints Row overthrow Grand Theft Auto? No, it did its own thing. Is Nom Nom Galaxy just Terraria by the PixelJunk people? Absolutely not. And the sooner everyone gets that, the sooner they'll see that this is a magnificently jovial little game worthy of its own merit."

News::How Many More Times Can We Shoot the Nazis?

CCC Says: "Its difficult to come up with a compelling antagonist in a military shooter. On one hand the enemy has to be realistic, encapsulating honest military fears that we hold in the current day. On the other hand, the enemy cant be racist. Flat out saying that the enemy is from Afghanistan or Iraq ends up grossly simplifying a complicated conflict. Heck, even making the enemies Russian caused quite a few outcries of racial stereotyping. But at the same time, we cant just make up a country or put our heroes up against a Cobra Commander style vague evil presence. That would just feel too cartoony."
