GIB - "First things first, there's something we should make clear. This is not a list of 2013's best games. Nor is it a list of our favourites. Call of Duty: Ghosts debuted on Nov. 5 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U, and PC. Last year, Black Ops II didnt release until Nov. 12. In 2011, Modern Warfare 3 hit stores on Nov. 8. That means that even with more time to sell, Ghosts couldnt keep up with its two most-recent predecessors.

News::Mew-Genics: This cat has a mustache

"[B]ecause this cat identifies as a hipster," so says Edmund McMillen.

Team Meat's (Super Meat Boy) upcoming cat lady sim, Mew-Genics, has been spiraling towards more and more additions, according to the development blog, faster than a cat collection loses control and consumes your life. That's feline by me.

Kittens are born with types, "from lazy to sexy, from passive to psychotic." Further, cats will "identify" with certain objects (among the hundreds of possibilities) and these objects, like a mustache or a board with nails sticking out of it, will change the cat's stats.

Rare, powerful identification with an object can cause a mutation, like the cat that identified with the Super Meat Boy plush and took on the character's facial features. Mutations, unlike object identification, can be passed down to kittens. The post also hints the next update will talk about birth defects and genetic diseases.

Mew-Genics is purrfectly ridiculous and I need it. I need all the cats.

Bracken Lee-Rudolph from ITF Gaming writes: The first-person-shooter often gets a lot of flak for not being particularly innovative military shooters such as Call of Duty and Battlefield dominate the market, and sometimes other games such as Borderlands, Portal, and Dishonored fall under the radar, despite falling into the same category. News::You Can Fly as Freely as a Bird in MMOs?

Most people thought that human beings would never fly many years ago, but the Wright brothers made it possible by inventing a working airplane. Have you ever imagined the feeling of flying in the sky like a bird in your childhood? In Chinese wuxia fiction, the authors did imagine the ability to move swiftly and lightly at superhuman speed, perform gravity-defying moves such as gliding on water surfaces, scaling high walls, and mounting trees which is called Qing Gong. Qing Gong is exaggerated form of Chinese martial arts in wuxia fiction. 2P is going to introduce some MMOs where you can experience Qing Gong which enables you to fly without any wings or flying machines.

As appealing as it is to play as the Caped Crusader, man, talk about pressure. Glad to see this mode arrive in a free update so as to avoid splitting up the player base.

News::The Tea Party doesn't understand BioShock Infinite

Satire: the use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people's stupidity or vices, particularly in the context of contemporary politics and other topical issues.

It's not every day when an ultra-conservative group takes influences from videogames to push their beliefs. BioShock Infinite features many references and ideas from ultra-conservative movements of the past, and present, and it looked as if this group, National Liberty Federation , found something they liked. Unfortunately for them, they missed the obvious satire and irony when attempting to spread propaganda.

For those not familiar with U.S. politics, the Tea Party is an organized group of conservative citizens who believe that the nation's doctrines and foundations are under attack by the progressive moment and democratic leadership in our government. During their round of image sharing, they posted a notable piece of art from BioShock Infinite, which features George Washington holding the Ten Commandments and Liberty Bell, while proclaiming "It is our holy duty to guard against the foreign hordes." Of course, anyone who's played the game will know that this piece appeared in a city ruled with an ultra-conservative outlook and a nightmarish gallery of isolationist propaganda and fear-mongering.

Obviously, this image plays well to the group's beliefs and many who didn't know of the game and supported the group agreed with it -- but it didn't take long for fans of BioShock to take notice. Many of which posted in the comments mocking the group for missing the irony and for using a videogame for propaganda. They've since removed the post, but still chose to respond directly to the backlash. "We were litterally flooded with new people not only laughing at us, which we expected, but also congratulating us on seeing things differently and having the guts to post it.. It's time they heard the other side of DC politics and if our plan works, we should be gaining many new readers now that they know we're here."

What do you make of this, fans? Have you ever seen a conservative group use gaming for propaganda?

Pinball Arcade , lauded for its painstaking, detailed recreation of classic pinball tables, has touched up its work for a PS4 release. Just look at that improved lighting. It's like my childhood of inappropriately being in a dingy Irish pub in the middle of the day playing pinball and drinking Sprite with maraschino cherries come to life.

According to the pinball wizards behind Pinball Arcade, the PS4 launch comes with over 20 tables available -- all of its original Season One content. The Tales of the Arabian Nights table, above, is free. In addition to a digital release, there's a physical edition, too.

Because of the work that went into the retouching, Arcade won't be cross-buy, but, "players who own all of the Season One tables can buy either of the Season One Packs for half price," while PS+ members can take 10% off the asking price.

News::Xbox One’s first wave of indie games will likely arrive March 2014, says ID@Xbox director

After announcing not only that Xbox One would support indie games, but that Microsoft had 32 studios lined up and working on them already, ID@Xbox’s director Chris Charla has told us that Xbox One owners can expect the first indie titles in the ID@Xbox scheme to arrive around the end of Q1 2014.

“I think it will be early in the New Year, in the first three months,” said Charla. “I would say closer to the third month. In terms of how many games there will be, it’s hard to say, because they’re still in development.”

According to Charla, many of the games currently being worked on for ID@Xbox have been in development for “months”.

“Some developers started developing for Xbox One, others already had games in development and are working on Xbox One versions. I would say they’re at all stages of development, honestly.”

The ID@Xbox website lays out the conditions for what developers can and can’t build for the Xbox Games Store, stating that while Microsoft “don’t want to be censors”, they’re not interested in promoting content that is “vulgar, offensive or objectionable”. According to Charla, the best way to get a clear idea of what constitutes acceptable content is to look at games currently available for the Xbox 360.

Furthermore, content standards for new indie games will be the same as those for regular third and first-party games – if you can’t do show it in a one-man indie bedroom project, you can’t have it in your triple-A, big-budget hack-and-slash, either.

The next stage of the ID@Xbox programme is to roll out development tools to everybody with an Xbox One. According to Charla, the end goal for ID@Xbox is to have every player in the world capable of making their own game, whatever their ability: “That’s [players] at all levels,” he says, “from coding a game in C++, to someone who can’t code at all using something like Project Spark.”

When it came to discussing ID@Xbox’s controversial parity clause (which states that while Microsoft doesn’t require exclusivity for indie games, it does require them to launch on Xbox One at the same time as other platforms), Charla was less forthcoming – although there was a hint that the policy might work on more of a case-by-case basis than the blanket ‘no’ that it’s been reported as thus far.

“Unfortunately we really don’t comment on our publishing policies,” he said. “Obviously we’ve heard the feedback from developers and we’re looking at all the way the ways we can to lower barriers for developers, but I really can’t comment on publishing policies. The reality is that developers should get in touch with us and talk. “

The post Xbox One’s first wave of indie games will likely arrive March 2014, says ID@Xbox director appeared first on Edge Online.

News::Syrup-rise! There's a MapleStory 2 coming and it's in 3D

While this CGI trailer isn't likely to be totally representative of the final, in-game MapleStory 2 , it's pretty damn adorable. It looks a bit like something out of Sony Pictures Animation. And those ample mushrooms are so cute!

I've never played MapleStory , but I know that it's still going strong today, which is impressive. It will be interesting to see how weathered fans and inquisitive newcomers react once it hits beta early 2014.

The 3D alone is a jarring change. Coupled with a new gameplay system, MapleStory fans may empty their bowels in confusion before skittering under the furniture, hissing as they go back to their familiar, original MapleStory.

News::Samurai Gunn Review: Dulled Edge | Polygon

The difference between life and death in Samurai Gunn is a microsecond. A pixel. A heartbeat. Samurai Gunn is the latest of a swath of games attempting to master the local multiplayer experience rather than struggle with server stability and netcode for online multiplayer. It harkens back to the days of yore, when friends were invited, beers were cracked and the couch became a warzone.

News::Redshirt Review | CheatMasters

avoiderdragon:There have been a few games that have referenced to the fairly recent phenomenon of social networking, which is something that we now live with through Facebook, Twitter, and so on. Grand Theft Auto V for instance had LifeInvader, which is an over-the-top tongue-in-cheek parody of the Mark Zuckerberg product. While you can play with it a bit in that game, there hasnt really been a game that has social networking as a central theme, excluding all those Zynga games. However, here is a game now that puts that concept on a whole new level.
