News::The Gamer Scene- Reus Review

Reus, developed by Abbey Games, gives the player control over four giants that manipulate a small planets environment. The giants each can terraform the small, cross-sectional planet, or create objects. The games unique draw is the inability to control humanity. The aim of the game is to shape the planet in particular ways to implicitly shape humanity. While the idea is unique enough for replay-ability, its execution is overly complicated and a bit frustrating.

News::Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes Review [Capsule Computers]

Author Joshua Moris of Capsule Computers writes: "If I had to describe the gameplay for Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes in only a few words, I would say the game is a hellaciously addictive, fantasy, Civilization mash-up. Even without fully grasping the worlds lore, players can snatch up this title and pour endless hours into a single campaign. An aspect that invokes hours of endless play is the games theme as a fantasy driven Civilization. Instead of building realistic armies like Civilization 5, players can attune their characters to the mysterious weaves of magic and battle great monstrosities of legend."

We may be down a couple of hosts this time around, sure, but at least we were able to drag two guests into the madness to make up for that. Joining us this episode are last week's Raven and newcomer Bizarre Monkey. So let's all make 'em feel at home! *applause* In any case, our two guests, as well as myself (Jordan), are actually game developers, so this episode is all about game development. Following our discussion about what games we're currently playing, we give advice to beginner/aspiring game devs, talk about our ideal recipes for good games, discuss the difference between a good game and a successful game, talk about the pros and cons of both big (AAA, etc.) game devs and indies, answer a couple of questions asked by members of our humble community, and Khorne shares a bit about his country in New Zealand Khorner.

News::For $900,000, They Want To Build A Crysis Suit For FPS Gamers

Kotaku: This is far from the first idea for force feedback clothing we've seen over the years, but it is the most ambitious. What you're looking at here is the ARAIG Exoskeleton (As Real As It Gets). It's made up of three layers (a hardware decoder, undersuit and exoskeleton), and is designed to accurately provide feedback to the user depending on what's happening in a game, whether you've been shot, pushed or blown through a wall. The suit includes a microphone and surround speakers, and the way it's made the developers claim it'll work with "any console or peripheral, any genre or game".

News::Activision and Naughty Dog - double standards set by Sony fans?

Gadget Mill: Recently we have noticed a lot of hate for the Call of Duty franchise most of which we believe seems to be coming from Sony fans. Now we are not saying they are the only ones who are very vocal about hating the Call of Duty franchise; but we believe they are most likely the majority. The reason for this we would believe is due to Microsoft and Activisions business relationship i.e. Timed exclusive DLC packs. Activision recently announced their latest title Call of Duty: Ghosts; along with this they mentioned that they will be using the same engine as they do in the current generation of course with upgrades. This obviously gave the Activision naysayers more ammunition to diss the franchise. Now to be fair to them; when Call of Duty: Ghosts was officially revealed at the Xbox One conference it was somewhat claimed that a new next gen engine was put in place.

News::Enjoy Ride to Hell: Retribution's grindhouse cinematics

After the first few trailers for Ride to Hell: Retribution , I have to say I was not really impressed. I can dig the overall biker aesthetic, but the low resolution textures and flimsy character models make the game look like it's already reserving it's spot in the bargain bin.

However, this new trailer has given me a different perspective. While it's lack of visual polish was the first thing I noticed, I failed to appreciate the grindhouse movie aesthetic that the developers were trying to create for their story. It may turn out that we have another House of the Dead: Overkill or Wet on our hands here; a game that nails the tone and feeling of a b-movie with an enjoyable game underneath.

Ride to Hell: Retribution will be dropping June 25 for North America and June 28 for all other territories.

News::Remember Me Review - IBTimes

Remember Me kicked up a stink back in March when director Jean-Max Moris told Penny Arcade how some publishers had flat out refused the game because the protagonist was female. Women characters have long been marginalised by videogames, as highlighted recently in Anita Sarkeesian's YouTube series Women vs Tropes in Gaming and Crystal Dynamics' Tomb Raider reboot. For that reason alone, Remember Me is a good game; it's good that it's out there; it's good that it, eventually, got published. But apart from that, there isn't a lot here to shout about.

News::Bloggers Wanted: When did you start loving videogames?

We all have our origin stories. My first videogame memories are of watching my uncle play his ColecoVision and Atari 2600 in the early '80s at my grandma's house. Q*bert, Frogger, Asteroids, Battlezone, Dig Dug, BurgerTime, Donkey Kong Jr., Yar's Revenge -- my uncle was so cool. This was followed by the NES my brothers and I got for Christmas a few years later, and playing Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo at my friends' houses in the late '80s.

Still, I wouldn't say that I had fallen in love with the medium at such a young age. No, that didn't happen until the early '90s, when my parents brought home our first family PC and I was introduced to Doom, Command & Conquer, and everything LucasArts ever made. Sure, I'd played plenty of games up to this point, but something about my brothers and I huddled in front of our family PC experiencing adventures together really drove home what an amazing experience gaming can be, and I've been enthralled ever since.

News::IGN- Remember Me Review

IGN:Remember Me is a likeable, even admirable game that tells a deeply personal story in a thoughtfully-fashioned world populated by richly detailed character models. But ultimately, it failed to challenge or excite me as a game, as all of its best ideas are confined to its overarching fiction rather than its gameplay. I rarely felt like a Memory Hunter except for the few Memory Remix sections. Id love to spend time in this world sampling its fiction and tasting some of its ideas, but unfortunately I cant say the same for the game, which is very forgettable.

News::Not Review: Resident Evil Revelations Strategy Guide

Resident Evil: Revelations has plenty of callbacks to Resident Evil 1 and Resident Evil 3, games that pre-date the internet as we know it today. Back in those dark and sorrowful days, the only way you could read about a videogame in great detail was through strategy guides. Resident Evil 2 and 3 had particularly fantastic strategy guides from Versus Books. They not only helped you to improve your performance in the games, but they also offered a sometimes hilarious look at the games' content, and even dug into the games' code to unlock unused content that would have otherwise remain unseen to most.

Flash forward to 2013 to an era where strategy guides are far less essential. The culture around games is now largely dictated by the internet, not print media. Brady Games' guide for Resident Evil: Revelations has a lot to do if it means to justify its existence in this modern world.

A funny thing happened towards the end of the Year of Our Lord 2011. Bethesda released the latest entry in the ongoing Elder Scrolls saga, Skyrim. It was met with much fanfare and greeted with both critical and commercial success. People would play it, stories would be shared, and eventually the next thing would come along and replace it. That was how it was supposed to go for that is the arc that most great games follow. But something different happened with Skyrim. Something unprecedented for a single-player adventure RPG it remained in the headlines. News::Sales of new Chrono Trigger nerdcore album go to charity

Last year, I discovered a nerdcore rapper by the name of Richie Branson, who laid verses atop anime tracks from Cowboy Bebop, Gurren Lagann, and more. He was also a very vocal proponent of bringing Toonami back onto Cartoon Network, and you might have actually heard his music during a few Adult Swim bumps. And you know me -- I dig this kind of stuff.

The self-styled "Otaku King," who has made no secret of his love for the classic Squaresoft years, recently released a Chrono Trigger tribute entitled From Guardia With Love. The seven-track album can be purchased from Bandcamp for $6.97 or from iTunes for $6.93.

The cool part about this story is that Richie will donate 100% of his earnings to the Extra Life charity group. Even if you aren't a big nerdcore fan -- and over the past few years, plenty of you made that extremely clear to me -- you gotta agree that this is a pretty solid move on his part. But if Chrono Trigger raps do strike your fancy, by all means, enjoy to the fullest!

News::AMD Readies FX-9000 High-Performance CPU Clocked at 5 GHz

Both processors would be based on the x86 Piledriver architecture which may not spark interest among the PC crowd but its not the architecture thats astonishing about the new processors, its their clock speeds. AMDs FX-9000 which is a FX CPU refresh is aiming to push the clock speeds at 4.8 GHz base and 5.0 GHz Turbo core clock which is a record native frequency for any processor ever released. The FX-9000 still has 8 Piledriver modules and 8 MB of L3 cache, its compatible with the AM3+ socket and will support 1866 MHz+ memory. Another change is the TDP, the FX-9000 is probably gonna get a trophy for its massive 220W TDP which compared to the SB-E Intel processors is quiet high and would require some massive cooling solutions just to let the heat off.

News::Dead Island: Riptide | Gamefreaks Review

Gamefreaks write: 'Dead Island: Riptide is a First Person Role Playing Game that takes off right after the ending of the first game, when you finally get off the forsaken island of Banoi onboard a Navy ship. Initially greeted by the military in a stereotypical manner, you are immediately quarantined (and they are none too gentle about it). Thrown in a cell with another person, who is also immune to the virus, you both wait to see what comes next. It isnt long before the ship crashes into another island corrupted by the undead where your first mission is one of surviving the wreck and making your way onto land.'

News::The Yawhg Review | GameJar

GameJar writes: 'The Yawhg is a storytelling game. It lets the player create the narrative of a resident of a fantasy town that The Yawhg is coming to in 6 weeks. The story is constructed through smaller happenings that the player gets to choose each turn; these have two options that increase stats and can have special random events that follow. These random events allow you to choose an action that can determine the outcome by checking against your stats. For instance, upon arriving at the Alchemy Tower to brew potions for a week, you learn lots and increase your magic and mind skills. One day while working, another alchemist asks you to look after their potion while it brews, but after they leave it starts to boil over and you have a choice between tossing it out the window and drinking it. The first time I played I drank it and spewed flame from my mouth, as I wasnt magical enough to handle it, but after playing through that scene another few times I discovered there are more...

News::Call of Juarez: Gunslinger Review For A Few Dollars Less | GameFront

GameFront writes: 'Call of Juarez: Gunslinger is built around one truly great idea: a frame story. At the beginning of the game, grizzled bounty hunter Silas Greaves walks into a bar in Abilene, Kansas and sits down. In exchange for a succession of free drinks, he regales the other patrons with tales of his past exploits, which include a series of showdowns against some of the Wild Wests most recognizable desperadoes.'

News::Anomaly 2 Review PC | GCVGN

GCVGN writes: 'Anomaly: Warzone Earth was the first game I learned about in the sadly under populated tower offense genre. Released in early 2011, Anomaly put you in charge of an ever-advancing line of armored vehicles as they made their way past a grid of alien towers. It was a fantastic game, and I assumed that it would pave way for a huge crowd of imitators to build upon its reversed version of the popular tower defense genre, but it was not to be. Now, it looks like the developer, 11 bit studios, has decided to take matters into their own hands and release Anomaly 2.'
