News::Wolfenstein: The New Order just isn't doing it for me

Bethesda is bringing back Wolfenstein, the first-person shooter that lets you kill countless Nazi bastards. The New Order takes place during the 1960s in an alternate history Earth where the Nazis have taken over the entire planet with their highly advance robot fighting force. It all looks hopeless, that is, until William "B.J." Blazkowicz finally awakens from his coma.

I got to see a good chunk of the game at a recent preview showing, and story wise, Wolfenstein has this very campy, almost Quentin Tarantino style going for it. Gameplay wise, well, it's looking like the standard FPS experience that I'm quite frankly just getting tired of.

News::Before Meteor: Final Fantasy XIV Original Soundtrack Will Bring Back the Music of the Original FFXIV

Many agreed that the soundtrack of the original Final Fantasy XIV was one of the best parts of the game, especially due to the inspired scoring by the popular composer Nobuo Uematsu. Most of those tunes are gone as the musical score has been completely redone for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, even if we recently learned that Uematsu-sensei will make a comeback in the new game. Those that loved the music of the original game still have something to look forward to, as Square Enix will release a music blu-ray titled Before Meteor: Final Fantasy XIV Original Soundtrack.

News::Sonic Lost World trailer reminds me of Sonic X-treme

Those passive-aggressive comments I made when SEGA announced six new characters for Sonic Lost World? Yeah, I take them all back. The debut trailer has appeared (a day before the promised May 29th reveal date), and it looks... wow.

What struck me immediately was how similar it looks to that old demo for the canceled SEGA Saturn title, Sonic X-treme . The Saturn game used a fish eye view to display the world as a tube with a gravitational pull towards the core. Lost World takes that same approach and adds a dash of Super Mario Galaxy. On top of that, the environments look closer to those from the Genesis era than ever before.

There's always the possibility that SEGA will muck it all up somehow, but for now, I'm stoked. Sonic Lost World will arrive on Wii U and 3DS later this year.

News::A return to true survival horror with The Evil Within

A return to true survival horror. That's what Shinji Mikami, father of Resident Evil, and his new studio, Tango Gameworks, aims to do with The Evil Within. I saw the game in action at an E3 pre-show recently, and they've certainly nailed down the horror aspect.

The overall design structure of the The Evil Within reminded me a lot of Resident Evil 4's. Mix in the nightmarish creatures that would be right at home in the Silent Hill series with the set pieces from the Saw franchise and you have yourself a nightmarish cocktail of pure terror.

News::GRID 2 Review | NZGamer

NZGamer: "GRID 2, representing a real shift towards the arcade racing genre, is a lot of fun. Yes, I lament the loss of an in-car view, as GRID 2 had me racing from a third person perspective for the first time in years. Along with the over-the-top drift handling I was initially on the fence - but damn it if I didnt have a blast. While a part of me wishes GRID 2 had gone the simulation path, it really seems to deliver in depth of content, driving model, and particularly some spectacular and thrilling environments. Bring on May 30th when GRID 2 launches on Windows, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 and those multiplayer servers start to fill out."

GIZORAMA - Most PC gamers know that Logitech makes great gaming accessories from mice to keyboards to gamepads. We recently reviewed the G710+ mechanical keyboard and fell in love with it and its responsiveness but sometimes a gamer needs something a bit more specialized and compact. That is where the G13 Programmable Gameboard comes into play. The G13 features 29 programmable buttons placed in an incredibly comfortable ergonomic design. News::The Stinky Footboard Review | GIZORAMA

GIZORAMA - Let us go ahead and get it out of the way. Stinky Footboard is a silly and corny name that is almost as absurd as the concept of a foot based input device for PC gaming. Once you get past the name and start actually using the footboard, it becomes clear that maybe it isnt so absurd; the device that is because the name Stinky Footboard still sounds like something my 8-year-old self came up with after a bender on sugary treats. In a way it really starts to make a lot of sense because foot pedals are widely used in music allowing artists to modify their sound while keeping their hands busy with the music making. It should work just as well in gaming and thanks to the hard work of SteLuLu Technologies, we now know that it does.

News::Eurogamer - Wolfenstein: The New Order Preview

EG:Wolfenstein, it's fair to say, has had a rocky road back to relevance. Once the very fountainhead of the first-person shooter genre, it found itself left behind in this console generation, with only Activision's poorly received 2009 reboot to fly the franchise flag. Now the series finds itself in the hands of Swedish studio MachineGames, founded by former Starbreeze staffers with experience on titles like The Chronicles of Riddick and The Darkness. Those were both games that managed to be more than just shooters, using their first-person perspective in interesting dramatic ways, and it seems that Wolfenstein will benefit from that same approach.

News::Wolfenstein: The New Order preview: Running and gunning, with personality | ShackNews

by John Keefer Wolfenstein: The New Order brings back B.J. Blazkowicz for another round of Nazi killing. Developer MachineGames tries to modernize the franchise by adding depth to its characters and writing, but it doesn't quite fit with the campy, arcade-style tenants that are core to the series. While the attempt is admirable, Wolfenstein fans will be more interested in the energetic action the series is known for, and the demo we saw has that down quite nicely. In this incarnation, B.J. Blazkowicz faces an alternate reality in the 1960s where the Germans won World War 2 with some new, mysterious technology. He has come out of a coma after 14 years and must come to grips with this new world order. Creative director Jens Matthies said one of the goals for the game was to develop some drama within the story and give the player a reason to care about the characters.
