The Globe and Mail: "Okay, heres the truth I played this game for eight hours before writing this, rather than the one hour required by the format. Even then, I felt like Id barely scratched the surface. This is a giant game without even including the online multiplayer modes. Its a huge time suck, but also great value for the money."

News::This War of Mine Review | CriticalIndieGamer

(CriticalIndieGamer) As a game, This War of Mine is sensational, as a story it is gripping, but it is as a statement that it makes its biggest impact. Whilst most of us (hopefully) will never know what it is like to live in a war zone, its important to know that there are people, like us, out there surviving in horrific situations. It is an unforgettable survival horror game, but not as you know it. 11 Bits presentation of war is candid, undiluted and bound to leave a lasting impression.

News::Far Cry 4 review - MMGN

MMGN writes: There are certain moments that stand out from a narrative point of view, although Im unsure where Far Cry 4s plot stands among the open-world greats. Theres a different feeling here, though: Ajay is a likeable character because the game does a superb job of modelling the world around his history, and the games primary antagonist lights up the world whenever hes on screen. Pagan Min is a charismatic and terrifying despot, and he may just be the offspring of Darth Vadar and the Joker. Theres an intimidating sense of anarchy that balances out the regimes structure, making for a genuinely chilling landscape of conflict. Kyrat is a fascinating place to explore, but you wouldnt dare ride around unarmed.

News::CeX Review- Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel

Denis Murphy- I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with the Borderlands series. I thought the first game was pretty great, but since then the series has been steadily going downhill first starting with Borderlands 2, it's various (and many!) DLC packs, and the recent lacklustre PS Vita port of Borderlands 2. Though Borderlands has never really offered up any new ideas when it comes to the FPS genre, the main problem since Borderlands 2 has been the writing.

News::This War of Mine - Morbid Play Review

For many of us games like Fallout were the first time survival and first person shooters came in the post apocalypse setting (granted the survival elements were thin even for the times). Due to the majority of war shooters taking warfare and sexing it up with Michael Bay explosions, flashy gunplay and stoic men of action; whereas survival titles usually put us in the shoes of the disgruntled, the broken and the frail characters who must overcome all odds in a much grimmer setting. This is fine of course as theyre both ways to make you feel very different emotions. Then came along titles like Metro 2033 gave us a more human aspect to the setting and Spec Ops The Line flipped the war genre on its head, so when one dev team by the name of 11 bit studios (makers of the reverse tower defence Anomaly series) read over an interview that told of a man who survived the siege of a city in Bosnia early 1990 the sparks were ignited and therein born the initial concept for This War of Mine.

Tony Polanco from The Koalition writes: "Tonights featured topic is about video game embargoes. This week showed the world how embargoes can be used by developers to withhold information from the public. This was the case with Assassins Creed Unity, a game that had its embargo lift a full twelve hours after it was released. We contrast this with Dragon Age: Inquisitions embargo date which was more than a week BEFORE its release. What do embargoes say about a publishers faith in their game and what do we think of them overall? We delve into this topic head on."

OnlySP: The past couple of years have been good for Ubisoft. Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag was received to both critical and commercial acclaim at the end of last year, and at the same time the hype for Watch Dogs was approaching the stratosphere, as well as for South Park: The Stick Of Truth. PC gamers were back on board after their ridiculous always-on DRM was canned. And last but not least: not one but two new Assassins Creed games were planned for 2014 the series which was Ubisofts cash cow by a mile. A year later the wheels seem to be falling off somewhat so what happened?

News::343 'working 24/7' to fix Halo matchmaking issues

If I owned an Xbox One, I'd be digging into Halo: The Master Chief Collection right about now. Well, attempting to, anyway: the compilation has issues with multiplayer matchmaking taking forever or otherwise not working as intended, and 343 Industries is scrambling to push out fixes.

The studio has temporarily consolidated playlists which should "allow players to get into matches faster, and improve overall match times," and suggests this one weird trick (no, really!) to improve your odds. Also: "When searching, if you do not find a match within 5 minutes, please return to lobby and restart the search, as this will reset the search parameters and increase the likelihood of finding a match within the [usual 2- to 4-minute] range."

343 is releasing a game update today for campaign, user interface, and matchmaking party issues. Expect a "larger matchmaking performance-focused content update" to hit next week.

"I'd like to personally apologize to you all for the current situation," wrote executive producer Dan Ayoub. "I can assure you we're attacking this from all directions from 343 Industries to the Xbox platform, and we won't rest until it's what it should be. People are reporting improvements across the board, which is great, but we're not backing down until we finish this fight."

Given these widespread issues, 343 has postponed the first Halo Championship Series pre-season online cup from November 16 to November 23.

News::Old is New Again in Pier Solar and the Great Architects - Cliqist

Marcus Estrada writes: "As soon as you start up Pier Solar youll be amazed with how accurately it creates the feel of a retro RPG. Unlike many modern games with pixel art styles, this game actually attempts to create an aesthetic that would actually exist at the time. Even on PC, which is where I played, you can set up scanlines and other filters to make it look more authentic. By default though it runs in HD mode which offers better-than-Genesis visuals. All told, it leaves an immediate impression that youre in for a great new JRPG along the lines of a Final Fantasy or Chrono Trigger."
