With Darkwood right in the midst of its IndieGogo campaign, Hardcore Gamer figured it would be a good time to sit down with Acid Wizard Sudios and discuss why exactly you should fund their (hopefully) upcoming rougelike horror title.

News::Metro: Last Light | Review (Kaboom Shark)

"Quick! What was the best aspect of Metro 2033? Its game over screen? Wrong, Timmy. Go sit in the corner. The correct answer is its atmosphere. Even if the game was a little undercooked and unfocused in places, its bleak and grimy feel was so consistent and meticulous as to be utterly absorbing. What helped this was gameplay that was rough in a good way, contributing to a sense of tension and survival that you dont see in many shooters. As with any sequel to a surprisingly successful cult classic, Metro: Last Light is in a difficult position. It needs to honor the elements that made its predecessor so effective, in this case the survivalist feel and atmosphere, while also pushing its concept forward and building upon the previous games untapped potential. Now that its out, is it enlightening, or should you tie it to the metro tracks?" (Michael Urban, KaboomShark.com)

Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg has confirmed that the Xbox One version of Call of Duty: Ghosts will have some form of Kinect voice commands. Speaking to VentureBeat, Hirshberg said, "I made a passing comment that you're going to see voice integration, voice commands via Kinect, which is something that we haven't done in the past with Call of Duty." He added that the improvements made to Kinect for Xbox One "really excite" the publisher...

News::Call of Duty: Ghosts Next-Gen or Not?

MP1st - In recent articles here on MP1st, there seems to be a lot of controversy about what makes a new game engine and what doesnt. Is the engine of Call of Duty: Ghosts new, or is it a copy/paste job from the last generation of console hardware? In a very strict sense, no. It is not a brand new engine. But that in itself is not a bad thing. The actual answer is, as usual, a lot more nuanced.

News::Review: Star Trek | Stuff.co.nz

It's a shame that these issues drag what is an otherwise enjoyable game down, as they are exactly the kind of problems that are easily remedied when developers are given enough time to polish their product and iron out the niggles. While Star Trek has its moments, it's ultimately another disappointing movie tie-in that fails to live up to its box office billing.

News::New Awesomenaut Ayla voiced by Ashly Burch

The insane 2D MOBA Awesomenauts has been trucking along for a full year, continuously being updated with new characters, maps, and other goodies -- on Windows and Mac, of course. Developer Ronimo Games is not through with the game yet and has prepared a brand new character for you all happy people.

During a special TwitchTV livestream yesterday, the devs pulled the lid back on Ayla, the spunky devil girl who can encase herself in a massive psychokinetic rage sphere for heavy close-range damage. And who voices the young lass? None other than Ashly Burch (mistakenly credited as "Ashly Durst") from Hey Ash, Whatcha Playin'? Ash already has experience portraying clinically insane children, like Tiny Tina in Borderlands 2, so this role is the perfect fit for her.

You can catch the first part of the livestream above, while the rest can be found over here.

News::Developer of Apple-banned Endgame: Syria takes on the Drug War in NarcoGuerra

The global War on Drugs is the four-decade-long policy of many Western governments, including the U.S. and Mexico, to stamp out the supply of narcotics. Now, developer Auroch Digital from GameTheNews.net is exploring the conflict with a new title for iOS, Android, PC, and Mac. NarcoGuerra is a strategy title that puts players in the role of the Mexican government. Using mechanics similar to the board game Risk, you must try to find and destroy drug cartels in a never-ending battle. Weve built a simulation based on our research about the reality of the War on Drugs, NarcoGuerra lead designer Tomas Rawlings told GamesBeat. [The game shows] how corruption and street price ebb and flow with police actions. Its up to the player from there [to decide] what they get out of the game, but most gamers I come across are smart people. I think theyll figure out that to win this war to have to understand its not a war in any conventional sense at all.

News::Resident Evil: Revelations HD Review | Blistered Thumbs

Capcom still knows how to make a zombie game. Resident Evil: Revelations is the best game in the series since Resident Evil 4. That sounds like high praise, but its really more of a backhanded compliment. Capcom has released a number of big-budget Biohazard titles since their 2005 magnum opus, but they have yet to come anywhere near recapturing its precision blend of third-person action and creeping horror. Revelations is the best attempt yet, but its handheld roots hold it back from true greatness.

But Riptide fails to convince as anything beyond an extended game of zombie whack-a-mole. News::Dead Island: Riptide | TVNZ Review

Dead Island Riptide's not messed with the formula of the first; it's simply taken the game to a new location, added in a few more zombies and weapons and simply decided to let you loose on it. News::Review: Dead Island Riptide | RobotsGoneBad

You could say that Riptide feels like an expansion pack, just wrapping some new characters in on a whole new island with missions welding a similar premise leading to the culmination of you leaving the island, but it holds on to the formula of the satisfaction of flinging a zombie head away from its body with a kitchen knife. This game is great for those seeking more of the same, with a little difference.
