News::Hatoful Boyfriend Review - Gaming Nexus

From the review: "Hatoful Boyfriend is not the pigeon-dating sim you're looking for: It's more than that. Curb your enthusiasm for branching storylines after playing through the early romance portion of the story. After you cross the point of no return, the game is out of your hands, and you're left with an on-rails storyline progression. Regardless, it will subvert each and every one of your preconceived notions of what Hatoful Boyfriend could even remotely be about."

[Luke Siuty, IndieGameMag]Whats your APM when you play Starcraft? The interesting metric, action-per-minute, which indicates how quickly one can control units in a typical real-time-strategy game, is making a grand appearance in indie title Cannon Brawl, developed by Turtle Sandbox. Coming out of Steam Early Access, the title is a one-on-one mix of strategy and action set to story-book-like graphics. Far from a typically complex PC RTS, Cannon Brawl is accessible from the get-go while hitting all the required strategy game paradigms on the way.

News::Swatting: A Gamers Revenge Gone Too Far

John Wyma, GIZORAMA - "Though the media portrays the archetypal gamer as some lonely schmuck living in his mothers basement while barely interacting with the outside world, I would argue that the virtual community as a whole is actually rather quite social. With multiplayer games, marketplaces, forums, and live streaming, controller jockeys develop fruitful connections through the virtual universe, and its typically beneficial. The more friends you have, the more games youre invited to, while the more viewers who follow you, the more you rake in through advertisements. Yes, the gaming world is far from lonely, but as in every sample population, youre bound to have a few outliers, a few crazies."

News::Choice of the Deathless Review: Legally Undead: Hardcore Games

Hardcore Games - If a game is going to serve as a throwback to a classic (and arguably obsolete) genre, it helps to have a strong personality. This could not be truer of text adventures, a genre that was spawned from the technical limitations of its era. Having to use ones imagination in place of graphics in a video game seems like a foreign concept today, and demands a lot from the player. This means that a text adventure is dependent almost entirely on the strength of its writing, since that is all there is to incentivize players to experience it. Choice of the Deathless recognizes this and provides a unique experience through clever writing and complex dilemmas, with a bit of humor thrown in for good measure.

News::A Bad Year for Games

"I dont mean to be hyperbolic with the title of the article, in many ways 2014 has been a great year for games. Especially if your games are titled Shovel Knight or Divinity: Original Sin. But see, thats kind of the problem I have with this year. Aside from the two indie darlings of the summer like them or not, its dumb to say that both games havent enjoy ravenous success and been highly regarded by critics and fans alike. If you dont like them thats fine, but even I, who thought Divinity was just good God forbid have to admit the impressive success both titles have garnered. You might be able to shove the Januarys release of the Banner Saga into this conversation. I, personally, loved the game and it seems to have developed a following, but I dont think its been quite as well received as the aforementioned games."
