News::Review: Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare - Ask Your Mum Gaming

Its hard to think that the Call of Duty franchise has been around for 11 years now. Or is it? It feels like the overly familiar first person shooter has been popping here, there and everywhere, especially since the launch of the Xbox 360. Odds are, if youre a gamer of most types, youll have picked up a COD game at some point in your life. So already Advanced Warfare has both a problem and a plus point. They say familiarity breeds contempt, and its certainly something that a lot of the internet seems to view with the COD series. But then, as a COD fan, you know exactly what youre getting when you sit down with the game and is the franchises constant double-edged sword. The real question everyone should be asking though is Whats different this time?

News::Space Hulk: Ascension Edition Review - Gamespot

Gamespot: "Space Hulk: Ascension gets it right. Developer Full Control Studios dropped the storm bolter last year in its first shot at adapting this Games Workshop board game classic, sticking too closely to the formula of the 1989 original. The designers have loosened their collars this time around. While they respect the intense Space Marine-versus-Alien duel at the heart of the original experience, more of the Warhammer 40,000 universe has been tossed into the mix, along with many new features that bridge the gap between the old board game and contemporary turn-based strategy gaming. There are still some lingering issues with the insanely punishing difficulty, and some quirks with the visuals and the interface. But this is still a much improved take on Space Hulk that, oddly enough, feels truer to the original game even as it moves farther away from it."

News::Escape Dead Island Review - Gamespot

Gamespot: "There's a pervasive plainness to Escape Dead Island that hasnt been common since the PlayStation 2 days. This zombie joins the list of competent yet unremarkable third-person survival adventures like Extermination and Cold Fear, games with Resident Evil-branded chips on their shoulders. You might be initially curious to know what answers Escape Dead Island, as an expository side story to the original Dead Island, could offer that would shed light on the series' initial outbreak. But Dead Island's mysteries are likely not what compels you to keep up with the franchise."

News::Never Alone Review - Gamespot

Gamespot: "Never Alone is a heartbreaking game, but not just because it's a particularly sad one. No, it's because the game's concept is admirable--a platformer steeped in the culture and folklore Native Alaskan Iñupiaq people--but the game itself is shabby. Included in Never Alone are short video vignettes comprising interviews with Iñupiaq elders, and beautiful footage of the real-world locations you visit; from these, it's clear that great respect was paid to Iñupiaq cultural touchstones and their translation into game mechanics. These videos are unlocked as you progress through the game, and do an excellent job of giving a cultural context to the level you are about to play. Never Alone has a genuine and honest desire for you to learn about these people, their way of life, and their methods of storytelling--and by the end of the game, you walk away with an appreciation for all three, but you resent the journey required to get there."

News::World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor Review | GameRevolution

GR: Ten years and still going strong. World of Warcraft is truly an anomaly. It's hard to believe Blizzard's massively multiplayer online game launched all the way back in 2004. Heck, I was still in high school! Over the years, Blizzard has been incredibly smart in the way it has handled the franchise, consistently supporting it through updates and expansions that have help shape and evolve WoW into the experience so many gamers know and love today. As such, it gives me great joy to report to all you World of Warcraft fans out there that it doesn't look like Blizzard's MMO is going anywhere anytime soon, as Warlords of Draenor, the game's fifth proper expansion, delivers on all fronts, providing endless hours of content that will please gamers who've been with the series for years and quite possibly even rope in some newcomers as well.

DSOGaming writes: "All in all, Far Cry 4 performs better than Assassins Creed: Unity, however its not as impressive as that particular title. Contrary to Assassins Creed: Unity, Far Cry 4 is not a broken or an unfinished project. Still, Ubisofts title suffers from some awful issues so here is hoping that the French company will fix some if not most of them."

News::Adventure Time: The Secret of the Nameless Kingdom Review - Gamespot

Gamespot: "Adventure Time: The Secret of the Nameless Kingdom is a Legend of Zelda clone, through and through. Its overhead perspective, sword-swinging combat, multi-floored dungeons, and item-based progression go beyond simply hinting at the game's roots; they beat you over the head with them. It's far from inventive, but being a clone doesn't necessarily sap a game of its merit. The Secret of the Nameless Kingdom is a well-executed replica of a formula that isn't seen all that often outside of Hyrule, and while a persistent lack of direction leads to frustrations, Adventure Time still stands above the heap of insipid licensed games so often rushed out the door."

News::What The Story Of 'Far Cry 4 Gets Right

On the surface, Far Cry 4 seems like a fairly simple story. Youve got your loathsome villain, Pagan Min, and his drug-dealing, deathmatch-staging flunkies. And youve got the heroic rebels fighting him, the Golden Path. But the story, once you start playing the game, is a lot more rich and complex. And, to be honest, it actually treats some fairly serious themes and problems in an intelligent way that acknowledges the murky greys that come with a nations people going to war with themselves.

News::Steam Fall Sale dates revealed by PayPal - November 26th to December 1st

Earlier this week, official Japanese Steam Points reseller, Degica, supposedly inadvertently leaked the dates for Valve's upcoming Steam Fall Sale. The Degica leak stated that the sale starts November 27th and ends on December 3rd. However, according to an official PayPal e-mail to their customers, it appears that the Steam Fall Sale dates leaked by Degica were, in fact, wrong. The PayPal e-mail in question puts sale's dates from November 26th to December 1st. Valve has not yet confirmed the dates outed by PayPal, or made an official announcement of their own, but PayPal is sure to be a much more credible source than Degica's previously leaked e-mail on the same topic.

News::Goat Simulator's MMO expansion has an Easter egg homage to Diablo's 'cow level'

Goat Simulator's "MMO" expansion went live on Thursday, and evidently it features the Easter egg above: a Diablo 3-themed area that takes you to a "Cow Level" similar to the one in Diablo 2. To get there, one uses a catapult to fling himself into "Twistram." It's a mock-up of the village in Diablo 3, complete with the game's music (and gloomy lighting, of course.) Then, wreck shit in the Cathedral to find access to a subterannean passage. There, your goat will find a glyph through which it may pass to the "Not So Secret Cow Farm." The video above shows it in detail.

News::This War of Mine Review - Gamespot

Gamespot: "An hour into This War of Mine, I keep thinking about that bit in The Last of Us where someone was somehow clear-headed enough in the middle of a war zone to scrawl "What happens when the food runs out?" on a concrete wall on a backed-up highway. It's a meaningless bit of background detail there. Here, its an all-consuming, panic attack-inducing source of primal fear. It's not a question a game about war ever asks, and when it shows the answer, it's never in as much emotional detail as its shown here. Even in a game like Spec Ops: The Line, which aims to measure the toll on the people fighting a war for too long, it's not a question you need to address, because there's only one way you can ever interact with the people in front of your gun. When the soldiers are miles away, when the smoke clears, and every home harbors the ghosts of innocent bystanders, how long do you have before basic humanity is nothing but background noise compared to the constant roar of a hungr...

VRFocus - If youve had so much as a passing interest in virtual reality (VR) technology over the past few years, then its likely crossed your mind that head-mounted displays (HMD) are a perfect companion to the horror genre. The isolation and immersion provided by the likes of the Oculus Rift can create an atmosphere unlike anything achievable with a standard screen. As those more deeply invested in VR will no doubt know, many developers have already tried to capitalise on this. The Oculus VR Share platform, a portal for free VR software, is littered with scary experiences while some high-profile studios such as The Creative Assembly have been using the Oculus Rift with their projects such as Alien: Isolation.
