News::Assassin's Creed 4 Black Flag, Analysing The Gameplay

A new gameplay video from Ubisoft has given us an insight into how Assassin's Creed 4 is going to play. The first thing to note here is that the game is a lot more open than any previous Assassin's Creeds, and there's much more to do in terms of side missions and collectables, but how does it all fit together? More importantly, how does it all feel?

News::[WKG] Company of Heroes 2 Review

Those that played the original Company of Heroes back in 2006 regarded it as being one of the best strategy games of all time with Relic Entertainment being praised for delivering such a high quality RTS set during World War 2. It has taken almost 7 years but Company of Heroes 2 has finally arrived and along with it, it brings high expectations as to how the series can evolve after the impact the original game made on the RTS genre.

News::DIehard GameFAN: The Walking Dead: 400 Days Review

DHGF: While 400 Days is an intriguing experiment with Telltale Gamess The Walking Dead formula, it is a bit shorter than other episodes in the first season even though its priced the same. The impact isnt nearly as great as were just getting to know these new characters, but the situations and choices the players are forced to make arent any easier. There are some loose ties with the first season as far as pieces of conversation and set pieces go with a number of choices carrying over between the five personal stories of each of the characters you have the option to play. Being able to set up your season two playthrough a little bit with this is an interesting prospect and it will be interesting to see it play out, but if youre looking for the same experience you had with season one of the Walking Dead youre not going to quite get that same feel but it definitely is fun to revisit the world through Telltales game.

News::MTV Multiplayer - 'The Bureau' Takes One Long Drag From a Cigarette and Breathes Life Into XCOM

MTV Multiplayer - I want to tell you about all the cool stuff that I found in 2K Marin's XCOM origin story "The Bureau" but I've been sworn to secrecy. Not really though. No one black bagged my head or anything like that but I don't want to get all spoiler-y about what I saw last Friday. My previous impressions more or less stay the same -- "The Bureau" is a love letter of the hysteria induced Cold War merged with the Space Race of the 1960's with an extraterrestrial twist. It also fills the wide gaps in story of previous XCOM games as this takes the franchise to its roots. So instead of rehashing gameplay mechanics I thought I'd paint a picture of the atmosphere of "The Bureau."

News::New Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles based on the new toon

Not content to just release Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows this year, Activision has also announced the annoyingly named Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, based on the new, supposedly surprisingly good Nickelodeon cartoon. You know, we have subtitles for a reason, Activision. It lets us easily tell games apart. I get the drive towards simplicity, but we remember Turtles in Time more than anything, anyway. Subtitles are fine.

The local, four person drop-in/drop-out co-op brawler is slated to "bridge the gap between the show's first and second seasons." It also looks pretty awesome, easily transposing the show's unique, blocky 3D style with a sort of cel-shaded look. I like it a lot more than Out of the Shadows' sort of gross and gritty style.

At the same time, I'm cautious about this game. For instance, why is this retail release only coming to Xbox 360, Wii, and 3DS? Why not Wii U or PS3? What are you hiding, Activision? The amount of actual gameplay shown was pretty slim.

For the time being, I'll remain cautiously optimistic and go play Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Hyperstone Heist on my Genesis (because I no longer have Turtles in Time and Hyperstone Heist is basically the same game with an added boss) and hope this doesn't end badly.

News::Dead Rising 3 started on 360, pushed the hardware too far

Dead Rising 3 first surfaced almost two years ago. So how did it end up an Xbox One title? According to Capcom Vancouver producer Mike Jones, talking to Siliconera, it was a matter of resources.

"In terms of building the game, we originally developed it on PC and everything we were doing was breaking the bank on 360," Jones said. "The number of zombies, the streaming stuff we wanted to do, memory budgets for the number of environments and items and physics and all of that stuff. Our tech team partnered with Microsoft to get early specs and figure out how we were going to get it on new hardware."

Seems as if the Xbox One's PC-like architecture aided the transition and allowed Dead Rising 3 to be a much more expansive game than previous entries in the series. "All of the Kinect things, we're making a game for hardware that isn't finished that we're all trying to launch together on day one," Jones said of the relationship between Microsoft's tech team and Capcom Vancouver. "Basically, we've been in lock step with them."

So Capcom wasn't so much infatuated with the "power of the Xbox One" -- the cringe worthy buzz phrase of Microsoft's Es 2013 -- and more annoyed by technical limitations of the Xbox 360 late in the console's life cycle. Meanwhile, the American-oriented Xbox One makes sense as the platform for the continuation of a series borne on Xbox and one that's being altered to be, "more mature and sophisticated," to appeal more to Call of Duty fans. Here's hoping there's enough zaniness hidden beneath the color-drained, tactical-strike-calling title.

Having originally been announced for the Xbox 360 back in 2009, Capsized has finally made its way on to the Xbox LIVE Arcade platform, courtesy of Namco Bandai Games. Part of a new strategy that sees the publisher capitalising on the accessibility of smaller gameplay experiences via digital delivery services with the aid of indie publishers, Capsized is the second of a trilogy of releases that offers something unique that would surely struggle at retail, and yet still feels perfectly comfortable when played on a current-generation home console.

News::[Metro Gaming] Review: Capsized

Despite being handled by one of the biggest names in videogame publishing there has been little buzz surrounding the release of Capsized. A humble indie title that made its PC debut back in 2009, Capsized was originally intended to launch on the Xbox LIVE Arcade in 2010.
