News::Saints Row IV Review | Pluggedin

There was a time, not all that many gang slayings ago, when Saints Row games were designed to be the cruder cousin of those Grand Theft Auto steal-a-car-and-rampage-through-the-city titles. As such they upped the genre's already foul and bloody inner-city gangbanging quotient by at least a notch or two.

News::Review: The Raven: Ancestry of Lies I Expansive

Trains, a boat ride, jewel thieves. Following on from its first instalment, The Raven Legacy of a Masterthief puts players back in the shoes of Constable Anton Jakob Zellner as he continues his investigation on the famous thief and the mysterious disappearance of The Eye of the Sphinx, a precious ancient ruby. The second chapter, Ancestry of Lies, jumps immediately back into the action from the offset, with the opening scene being a direct continuation from Chapter Ones surprising cliff-hanger ending.

News::GameInformer- Total War: Rome II Review

GI:This grand strategy titles scope is a historic achievement, asking players to lead ancient Rome or another of the eras powerful factions to hegemony through military force, diplomatic alliances, and the almighty power of money. For the sheer size that Rome II boasts, managing any empire larger than a medium-sized European country is a Herculean task. The spectacle of Roman legions clashing with barbarian hordes in real-time tactical battles is a sight to behold, but unchanging tactics and the occasional dramatic AI or pathfinding bug keep the combat layer from achieving its potential. As strong as Rome IIs bid for strategy greatness is, its lack of focus and tendency toward monotony stain its gleaming banners.

News::Review: Hammerwatch

I have some really fond memories of playing through Gauntlet on the NES. "Red Warrior needs food, badly!" it would warn, reminding all of us that the Red Warrior player SUCKED. "Red Warrior, your life force is running out!" Then the annoying heartbeat-esque sound effect would kick in. Jesus, Red Warrior, get it together!

"Someone shot the food."

Well, crap.

Hammerwatch rekindles some of those great Gauntlet feelings, except with online multiplayer and a custom level editor, and without charming sound bites to demean its players.

News::Dying Light's Nighttime Zombie Chase Almost Gave Me A Heart Attack | Kotaku

Kotaku: "There are precisely one billionty video games out there that ask you to imagine what it would be like to survive the zombie apocalypse. But it's rare to find one that makes the setting feel like anything more than just morbid fun or creepy explorations. It's hard to inspire genuine, adrenaline-rushing fear. The kind of fear where you're playing not for the multiplayer, the challenge or the completionist gamer in you, but to actually survive. And when I was rushing into the outstretched hands of some fellow survivors back at our base in Dying Light, zombies trailing behind me, I felt the kind of relief you can only know after a true rush of fear."

The Bureau: XCOM Declassified has had a long and troubled history. It was announced before the recently released strategy game XCOM: Enemy Unknown, but the fan response to the reveal was extremely critical. News::Lost Planet 3 Review | HAL

Ross Hartley: "Lost Planet 3 is a weird game to review. It's my favourite Lost Planet game, but that isn't saying much. It's my favourite Spark Unlimited game, but that isn't saying very much. It is a decent third-person shooter, but there are loads of better ones out there. It is definitely a fun game for a while as the combat is satisfying and the environment looks fantastic. But after a few hours, you realise Lost Planet 3 doesn't have many other tricks up its sleeve and the experience becomes rather monotonous. I wouldn't pay full price for it but action fans might want to check it out at some point."

News::Are We About to See an Evolution of Multiplayer?

"Multiplayer has always been a part of gaming; Pong had support for two players and most consoles released since then have had at least two inputs. The idea of playing together is something that has been around longer video games have. From Minecraft to Just Cause 2, mods to turn PC games from a singular experience into something more are forever being released. The march of technology drives more and more people to play together with MMOs hosting thousands of players on a single server. These multiplayer modes have always been separate from the single player experience and have always needed load screens or lobbies for you to enter. Over this generation, there was the growth of drop in/ drop out multiplayer, but this still involves an active decision to participate in this. However, other games begin to point at new way to approach multiplayer."

Rush Bros., developed by XLYA Entertainment is a platform-based game that lets the player control how each level reacts all by changing music. The game is unique because of the intelligence behind how each moving object is able to change scenarios simply by the beat of the music. Simply put, the background artwork is beautiful. It adds a great touch to a game that under-delivers in the gameplay department. Each level has a unique touch of a different background that dazzles the player. Ultimately, Splinter Cell: Blacklist is easily the best in the series by a mile. There are a wealth of gameplay options, all of which feel great to play and rewarding. Adding the multiple play types of Ghost, Panther and Assualt to the mix, and Ubisoft has made a brilliant decision, giving the game much reward in the area of replay value.

News::Impressions: Diablo III (PS3, Xbox 360)

The thought of the Diablo franchise coming to consoles yet again was something I found hard to believe. I had a front-row seat to the launch of the original Diablo on the PlayStation, and to say it was a letdown is an understatement.

But after I had gotten in some quality time with Diablo III , I actually had faith that the pared-down mechanics could actually work outside of the PC platform -- the question is, would I actually play it all over again on a controller. In fact, when it came time to actually sit down and play the console game last week, I thought I had enough of Diablo III with a few hundred hours poured into the original PC release.

Before I knew it though, I had nearly beaten the game twice over on consoles in a single afternoon.

News::We're still making up our minds on Wind Waker HD

So, I'm a jerk for having not played The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker to completion. That much became clear after my hands-on time with the upcoming HD re-release for Wii U at PAX Prime 2013. The lines may have been ridiculous, but much of that insanity was due to the sweet t-shirts Nintendo was giving out, I'm pretty sure.

While this seems like an obvious buy for me, our Wind Waker veteran Spencer wasn't so sure. In addition to the visual polish, there are tweaks to Hero Mode, your sailing speed, the Triforce shards, and other appreciated but not exactly substantial additions -- a tougher sell for someone who has played through the original GameCube release many times.

We both agree that there are other titles in the Zelda franchise we would've preferred get the HD treatment before Wind Waker, which still holds up quite well to this day and can be emulated and further prettied up on PC if you're into such things.

IGN:Outlast can stand proudly as a unique and terrifying survival horror game. Unlike many modern horror games, it remembers that the most frightening monsters are those that you can't kill, but have to flee from, and it creates an outstandingly creepy atmosphere that rendered me defenseless against its many well-paced jump scares. Annoying design choices and forced moments of repetition have a bad habit of spoiling the mood, but between them is an experience that's scary as all hell.
