News:: Review in Progress: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Wii U)

We found out last week that Destructoid would not be receiving a review copy of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild for the Wii U. We only got the Switch copy Chris Carter reviewed earlier this week. As the person selected to review the Wii U version of this long-awaited game, I have not read his review. Or any review for that matter. I don't even know what it's Metacritic score is. Hell, I haven't seen a trailer for this game in months, catching only a glimpse of it in various commercials I've seen on TV.

I made the decision a while ago to go into Breath of the Wild as blind as possible. It had been promised this game would be significantly different from past entries and progression through it would differ from person to person. So I stayed away from the previews, reviews, and available guides. What did this dedication to naivety get me? In the first 10 hours of the game, it got me lost. Very, very lost.

News:: Here's what happened at GDC 2017

Our time at GDC 2017 has come to an end, and we're already looking forward to next year. Over the course of the week, we covered the latest developments from the gaming world, which included major announcements by Oculus and Microsoft on the alternative-reality front. But that wasn't all: Independent games are always a major part of GDC and this year was no exception, as demonstrated by the massive Indie Megabooth. The show floor may be closed now, but stay tuned because we still have some stories to share with you about trends we noticed at the event.

News:: Weekend Deals: Cheap Ghost Recon Wildlands, Nier Autoama's with $25 gift card bonus

We're a weekend away from Tuesday's big release Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands and if you still haven't made the move to pick up a copy, some discounts are still available. Many know of Amazon Prime or Best Buy's GamersClub Unlocked paid membership discounts (20% off pre-orders), but for this title you won't need the pay membership. Just hop over to Toys"R"Us's Buy 1, Get 1 40% off sale and pick up the game and another latest release at a reduced price.

The deal will also work on other new releases such as Horizon Zero Dawn along with The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild (before you get excited, its for the Wii U). As for PC gamers, you can head over to GMG or GamersGate to pick up a discount on the digital Uplay copy of Ghost Recon: Wildlands.

Another big release coming on Tuesday is Nier Automata for the PlayStation 4. While discounts are harder to come by for this title, you can get a big eGift Card bonus worth $25 at Dell by pre-ordering from them. Value wise you're effectively getting Nier Automata for $35.

This week Middle Earth: Shadow of War was confirmed to have an August release date later this year. PC Gamers have been bombarded with early bird discounts - though unlike usual WB published titles, discounts are smaller than years past. Looks like they're showing some constraint around this time vs. the deals galore on Shadow of Mordor. Best deal as of writing is at GamesPlanet, showing a price tag of £38.24 in British Pounds. Since you can buy from GamesPlanet world wide and the key is not region locked, that comes out to about $47 USD, or a 22% price break.

News:: Smart garbage can turns trash into a game

Waste is a big concern for cities -- after all, no one likes looking at trash on the street. But it ends up there anyway, for various reasons: bins overflow, sometimes they're hard to find and worst of all, some people just don't care what they do with their trash. Sencity seeks to fight this apathy by turning litter disposal into a game with its new TetraBIN, a connected trash bin that rewards you for tossing out your garbage.

News:: GOG's LucasArts PC gaming weekend sale

Remember Star Wars 1313? No you don't because LucasArts has been canned. (Cue sweet tears of what-could-have-been). Only their classics remain and this weekend the PC versions have gone on sale at the DRM-Free retailer GOG.com.

New lows abound on titles like X-Wing Alliance, the recently re-released Shadows of the Empire, and many more goodies. We have a full breakdown for the sale here and the best deals listed below.

The sale is good now through Sunday, March 5. Technically this sale is titled a "Disney sale" rather than a LucasArts sale, but eh we'll go with the recognizable publisher, defunct or not.

News:: Watch the first 10 minutes of Fullbright's 'Tacoma'

Tacoma feels a lot like its predecessor, Gone Home, even though its environments couldn't be more different. Rather than leading players on an emotional journey through an abandoned family home, Tacoma places players on an abandoned space station.

The feeling of familiarity comes from the game's design and mechanics: Players are encouraged to explore all the nooks, crannies, notes and recordings scattered around the station, while the layout of the winding metal hallways and air locks quietly guides them through a mysterious, dangerous storyline.

It's been an exceptionally busy week in the world of technology, as Engadget had teams of editors in Barcelona at Mobile World Congress, and in San Francisco covering the Game Developer's Conference. At MWC, we saw all the new phones, including a couple of blasts from the past by Nokia and Blackberry. But amidst all the Androids everywhere, Mat Smith was on a quest to find the future of Windows Phone. As you might expect, it's not so bright.
