News::Supergiant's Transistor hits PS4 and PC next month

The next title from Bastion maker Supergiant Games, Transistor , is one many of us at Destructoid have had nothing but good things to say about and it's releasing relatively soon. The studio announced a May 20, 2014 launch across PC and PlayStation 4 and a $19.99 price point today.

This is another overhead action game in which Logan Cunningham lends his vocal talents, one that offers a blend of real-time action with a time-stopping planning mode. It's sweet!

PAX East attendees should make a mental note to play a near-final build of Transistor at booth #892 this weekend. If past showings are any indication, you'll want to get in early before an overwhelming amount of people descend upon the game. Good luck.

When Mario gets transformed into Han Solo, it makes a weird sort of sense that Sonic plays the part of Lando Calrissian. Seeing Princess Peach in Leia's slave girl bikini takes some getting used to, though.

News::Review: MLB 14 The Show

I was ready for last year’s The Show to be its PS3 swansong, I was feeling it. It’s not that it wasn’t good. It was as good as it ever was. But there were signs of age. The same old horrifying fan models in the stands with crooked limbs and dead faces. The same bone dry commentators. It felt like the right time for The Show to be transitioning to PS4.

But this is sports, or at least sports games. When is the last time someone went out while they were ahead in sports? But hey, if the Red Sox can give David Ortiz -- a designated hitter in 2014; an endangered species – a $16 million contract extension for what he’s meant to Boston over the last 12 years, I can give The Show on PS3 another ride for being the only good baseball series. Especially since the PS4 versions isn’t even out yet.

I mean, I owe the Giants’ first World Series to a platoon of antiquated weirdo journeymen and a weirder, sappier story than Space Cowboys. This isn’t just “another year, another Show,” either. This is a franchise in clear transition to the next generation, which has benefited the current generation.

News::Age of Wonders III Review: Risk + Monopoly + Unicorns - Pixel Related

Patrick Cassin writes: "Age of Wonders III needs a tutorial. Like, a proper, arrows pointing to things described by text bubbles, kind of tutorial. Sure the Tome of Wonders is great and offers you all sorts of hints, but its the digital equivalent of an instruction manual the kind we always set aside because we want to get to the meat and potatoes of gaming. The reason AoW3 needs a tutorial so urgently is that the only things really wrong with this game are small interface issues, errors and omissions that make the whole experience needlessly frustrating. Twenty hours in and aided by an Age of Wonders veteran, only then had I finally clicked every button to see what it would do. But despite the frustrations faced in grasping the fundamentals of the game, at no point is the experience lacking in fun."
