SpellForce 2: Shadow Wars was originally released back in 2006 and after a seven year dry period with very little in terms of releases, the epic four-part saga finally comes to a close with Demons of the Past. The final expansion. For those who havent heard of or played the classic series, SpellForce 2 offers a unique blend of Action-RPG and classic RTS. Kind of the mutant love child spawned from the merging of something like Diablo and Warcraft.

News::Kenshi Preview | GIZORAMA

GIZORAMA - There has been a lot of negative feedback towards Steams Early Access programming, mostly because it releases lower quality games, often for the same price as a standard release. As such, I feel that previews of Steam Early Access games should all be accompanied by the following disclaimer, so as to avoid senseless repetition: This game is buggy, unfinished, glitchy, poorly balanced and slow. It is a concept and an idea, one that is still being worked on, developed and fleshed out as such, this preview will be more of a look into what the game could be like when it releases proper, and whether the fundamental foundations and systems already in place are well designed and interesting enough to warrant your purchase. Capiche? Kenshi is an odd beast. Bucking the trends set by most games that take place in dystopian settings, Kenshi is a hardcore, squad based, free roaming strategy/RPG. Its main focus is on giving the player a normal life not in the sense that the...

News::Couch play: Why developers are championing for more local multiplayer games

GamesBeat writes, "These days, finding someone to play games with is easy. All you have to do is sign in to Steam, to the PlayStation Network, to Xbox Live. And while some of us prefer the anonymity of our Internet connections and others are hungry for more competition than our friends schedules can handle, playing online is just, well, convenient. In a matter of minutes, we can find teammates or opponents from all over the world. Why play with the same old people? Not all developers have given up on local or couch multiplayer, though. Recent games like Tiny Brains, Towerfall, and Samurai Gunn are bringing it back. We spoke with the creators of these titles and more about why we should care about local multiplayer today. (Two quick reasons? E-sports and Super Smash Bros.)"

News::Jazzpunk Review (PC) | CriticalIndieGamer

(CriticalIndieGamer) Its difficult to not feel a little underwhelmed with Jazzpunk. After all its time in development Necrophone Games has somehow managed to deliver a game that is as much other peoples as it is their own. Dont get us wrong, this is a fun game, but we cant help feeling like we have seen it all before. Boiling the game down to its constituent parts reveals very little originality, a handful of side quests and minigames, and a very linear path to its finale. The short length of the game is, perhaps, its saving grace; sitting through 8 hours of Theres that joke from that film that came out in 1980 is not a task we would want to partake in. So, should you buy Jazzpunk? If you have a high tolerance for repetitive humour, and dont mind the odd bug here and there, you will find a lot to like so long as you understand where the references come from. On the other hand, if you dont understand the humour, you will find Jazzpunk to be a vapid experience with little...

News::Race the Sun Review: Challenging Runner That Changes Every Day - GamerFitNation

"The title of Race the Sun has two meanings. The player races through the games levels, attempting to get as far as possible before the sun sets and the players ship runs out of power. At the same time, the player is constantly competing against a countdown: the time left until the map of the day has been active for 24 hours, at which point the map will change. This is a game that emphasizes quick reactions over memorization of stages." - GamerFitNation

News::Bundle Overview - Indie Gala I Expansive DLC

Cubicity is the first title in the bundle and probably the most obscure of the lot. Originally an Xbox Indie Games title, its been moved over to PC and is currently vying for votes in the depths of Steam through Greenlight. Its definitely got plenty of ideas going for it; the point of the game is that you are hanging from the roof of each level, and in order to proceed over to the next, you have to take a key black block to a small area. In order to accomplish the task, players have to grab various boxes and items with a magnet so the key block can make its way across successfully. The puzzles are mostly well designed and give the oh-so necessary rush when you complete a particularly challenging one. Where the game falls down, however, is its control scheme. Quite often it feels fiddly and unhelpful, with items often being dropped where you dont want them, or at weird angles. The plot is also very tacked on and almost completely unnecessary.

News::Jazzpunk - As We Play I Expansive DLC

Jazzpunk is billed as a first person adventure game, although with its focus on exploration and almost total lack of any actual puzzles, its actually structurally closer to such interactive fictions as The Stanley Parable or Gone Home than, say, Frogwares Sherlock Holmes games. In fact, with its uniformly stylized population, surreal spy adventures and utterly bizarre but extremely colorful world, you might find that the game is quite similar in style, if not in execution, to Brendon Chungs freeware classic, Gravity Bone. In Jazzpunk you play as a secret agent known only as Polyblank and are tasked with a series of missions in an comedic and cartoonish alternate reality, cold-war cyberpunk setting. While the central missions themselves are short, theres a lot more content to be found from wandering around the games various, chaotic stages than can be found through simply completing the game, and the player is encouraged to go as off-course as possible through the carrots of...

Flappy Bird creator Dong Nguyen has announced via Twitter that he will be taking the game down some point on Sunday. He has stated that he "cannot take this anymore."

In subsequent tweets, Nguyen explains that the taking down of Flappy Bird is "not anything related to legal issues" and that he still makes games.

I guess making $50k a day in ad revenue is too much to handle, or perhaps Nguyen is settling down for an early retirement. Either way, looks like there is room for all other Flappy Bird clones.

News::Review: The Castle Doctrine

My life's earnings are stashed away in my vault. Well, half of it. As an added security measure, I've given my wife half to hold on to and protect with her life. I've built my house in such a way that I feel pretty confident that my belongings are safe. At the very least, my wife and kids will be safe behind the protection of my pit bull, Tiny.

I come back later in the day to find that a few vagabonds tried, and failed, to steal my money. Their loss, my gain. They died, I thrived. I come back the next day and find that my walls have been sawed through, and my money stolen. I check on Tiny: drugged. My family? All dead, no, murdered. I have nothing left. I check the security tapes, though I'm not really sure why. I don't care for revenge, though I can't say the thought is absent in my mind. Standing in what's left of my house, I take it all in and kill myself.
