It didn't appear that Flying Hamster II was going to raise the $150,000 in pledges it needed to be funded on Kickstarter. And that would've been disappointing -- the game looks like a treat for those of us who enjoy the Wonder Boy series. Developer Game Atelier has closed its crowdfunding campaign, and that's probably for the best. It's found a publisher.
"We are really thrilled that we can go on production earlier than we could ever expect, thanks to the help of FDG Entertainment, and without changing anything from what we initially planned to make," wrote the studio. "We even think that being published by FDG Entertainment will drastically raise the overall quality of the game as we are now able to focus on its development and get their experienced feedback and support."
Under the new arrangement, Flying Hamster II will hit Steam first followed by ports to other platforms at a later date. FDG is best known for publishing mobile games, but the developer stresses that it "won't be downgraded or turned into any kind of freemium game."
Also, backers can earn a free copy of the title at release if they aren't above tweeting about it.
